No need to get offensive. Being the first IS important whether you agree or not.  I never said don't open source it, I clearly said "too soon", try reading again next time.

Clearly most people have agreed with me.  Being established first is just good business. We have all invested time and money into this coin in someway or other.

We need to get our foot in the door, and not get steamrolled by other more established coins simply implementing Darksend, or maybe DS? things get shortend eg, KGW....

Why get offended? Re-read your post. That's what you sound like.

Clearly most people who are here agree with you? How is that not obvious? Breaking news! A forum post filled with investors in a coin take the short sighted view.

So far I haven't seen Eduffield, you know.. the person doing all the work, chime in on the matter except to say that he's putting in work. And everyone's opinion whose not doing shit but posting on a forum means zero next to his, including mine. I'm just giving a good counter argument instead of listening to a bunch of greedy motherfuckers like you. Sorry in advance if motherfucker offends you more than being called a 2 year old.

Eduffield, this coin will get what's coming to it already. You know that because of how much hype these people are putting into the coin. You got what's yours from your instamine. Please don't forget that you're building from the shoulders of giants. Coinjoin or darksend should belong to the community.

wow way to stoop to a new low, almost laughable 14 year old.  If you were with this coin since the start, you might recall Eduffield asking for people's input on the whole opensource topic, and it's clearly of importance to the members of this community, and Eduffield clearly listens to the community, and I have huge respect for him for that.  It's his coin and he can do with it as he wishes, but I'm sure he values the comunitys input.

It seems most people want it to be open source, but just not right away.  That much we have learned, and I completely agree with that.

Anyhow, I don't have time for your childish replies, done.  I'll keep mining, trading and supporting Darkcoin.  You can keep throwing around childish insults.

I totally agree. Eduffield has my vote of confidence. Open-source is the way to go, but I too would rather first see darkcoin establish itself as THE anon-privacy coin, and only after that, release the code for others to use, improve, validate, etc. It is a branding issue that positions darkcoin as the leading innovative coin, with a unique value proposition.

I have come to realize [and it took me a while] that the true intrinsic value of cryptos [that which Alen Greenspan claimed it lacked] is not the cutting of fees, the middleman or the non-inflationary character. It is the anonymity and privacy. Bitcoin and other cryptos are a proof-of-concept for pseudo-anonymity. Now it's time to progress this aspect and build anonymity and privacy as the core of darkcoin, the next-gen coin.

Kamehameha!!!
Open source the coin and it dies, others take the function and implement it into their coin. You then can say goodbye to Darkcoin.

The only people who want it open source want it for their coins.

It wont be closed source, after the release. "We" understand an support the open source model, as we could not have gotten to this point without that. We are just keeping it closed during the testing. Because you know someone would take it and just implement it in their coin right away. We want to have it bullet proof before we release ANYTHING related to anon/coinjoin/darksend.

So the whole argument about closed vs open is completely irrelevant.

Haha right because they will only trust IPOs. My neighbor at work asked me why I was laughing so hard when I read this.

Yes, we know the DarkSend test is soon, but when people ask when it will be, they already know it is soon, so saying 'soon' isn't really any kind of answer! :/ Throw us a bone with numbers written on it, if you catch my drift.

 Grin

I don't have a date, but I'm guessing in 2-3 more tests I'll allow people to start using DarkSend on the mainnet using the ubuntu/windows binaries. There's really no risk to using it and it should be stable in a couple weeks.

The problem is to opensource it I need to do a fair amount of work to secure the way it works and make sure it's very robust in dealing with possible errors/issues. But I can start to work on that while you all are using it on mainnet.

Eduffields proposal is reasonable. People are really craving to have darksend and asking for it everyday in this thread. He's gonna give it to us first while he tweaks it a bit and then at some point soon after that, the source code will be released. For all the tangible qualities and new features Darkcoin is bringing to the table, it doesn't have marketing/hype going for it too much for now. The new website is in progress, logo will be updated and it will be ready for criticism. The reason it has succeeded up until now is genuine interest. Saying that he's building from the shoulders of giants is a bit disingenuous and trivializes the work Eduffield is doing. The coin is still quite small, not having it open sourced within first day of release is not going to be a problem, it will be tested by members of the community and major players can adopt it later when they see the source code without a problem.

I'd prefer closed source to start. Otherwise we may never get momentum. Notice how many of the people calling for open source have very few posts in this thread.

I don't recall half the people mining now back in the CPU-only days. Once DarkSend is out I doubt people will bail on this coin if it stays closed-source for a little while.

Very good point.  I'm sure there was huge shift in interest in Megacoin when they first implemented it, but now that a whole range of other coins make use of the Kimoto Gravity well, Megacoin has lost its appeal, and advantage. I don't like the idea of a DarkDogeSend or similar....

A unique useful feature is what a coin needs now days to standout in the crowd of clone coins.  I don't want Darkcoin to be seen as a clone by loosing this unique selling point.
Couldn't agree more. Also perhaps it is good idea to change  the title of this thread a little, for people who are not into DRK... I will elaborate:  [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | Anonymous (alpha) | KGW | No Premine | ASIC Resistant

[ANN][DRK] DarkCoin - everything is clear , it is the name of the coin
KGW - clear, people understand what it is
No Premine - people love no premine
ASIC Resistant - great, when scrypt ASICs arrive , ASIC resistant is the way to go
Anonymous (alpha) - here we go, there can be some more explanation in a word or two more, so it catches peoples attention. Something like: "DarkSend", or "Anonymous (exciting new feature)",etc... those are just a few lame examples, but hope you got the point

I updated the title, let's try that for awhile.
