The price has been around 250k and 280k sat for months. Quite stable relative to other altcoins.
Bitcoin has dropped a little so dollar price has dropped a little. Big deal
As for staking profitability, price of tickets is around 30 dcr not 44. Actually its even lower around 26 but the average is slowly increasing
1000 dcr gets you about 35 tickets and half of them are expected to stake in a month. That's almost 30 dcr or 0.075 btc with conservative measures.
Yearly it's 0.9 btc without compounding. About 35%. I consider that quite good.

1000 decred is 2.6 btc, so with an investment of 2.6 btc you can earn 0.1 btc every 28 days, not worth it

What if it will be worth again in the future?
It's only not worth if you sell the DCR as soon as you make them.
If you're in it for the long run, you don't care about these cycles and fluctuations.

Of course its profitable. You don't lose the amount you pay for the tickets. Its just locked until it votes.
And you lose the fee of course but its negligible compared to the reward which is about 1.71
Check decred stats site for actual amounts

What exactly have you done with your coins? I have made nice profit with POS-mining during past months and will continue same way, except also will start POW-mining. I see growing network and lot's of development in this coin.
Maybe he bought the most expensive dcr, so he is angry now. Always some losers.

Please note when tickets bought (and probably money sent as well) from GUI, it requires the password to unlock the wallet. But only temporarily, and when the wallet is locked afterwards, it stops voting ! Unlock from commandline with walletpassphrase passwd 0 !!
