The Scrypt ASIC thing is starting to make my head hurt. It is a fact that a gridseed ASIC is cheaper and takes a fraction of the power per MH/s than GPU's. Of course network hashrate will climb, but guess what? Scrypt is still the most profitable algorithm to mine with a GPU. I own both GPU and ASIC. No matter how I crunch the numbers my  GPU rig mines more BTC worth of coin per day than when I use if for Scrypt-N and X11  

I really liked the promise of X11 and it kept my room cool. Scrypt-N is hard on GPU cards and will not be able to adjust for ASICs without becoming to aggressive for GPU as well. And even if you disagree with that, still, my gpu will mine more BTC worth of coin with Scrypt than Scrypt-N. Any mining calculator such as Coinwarz can show you this. Also, putting it to practice can as well.

X11 is very likely being mined by ASICS or FPGA. X11 (XC) coin has a greater network hashrate than LTC right now according to some guy I was chatting with. If that is true than do you really believe that is GPU farms mining a new coin?

I am a "normal" person of limited means and by no means are ASICS any more of an investment than GPU's.

So what algorithm would you propose changing DOGE too that would actually make an impact on accessibility? Or would it be for a quick pump?

A post by a dev, about other possible actions for Dogecoin, and he expresses doubt about yesterday's suggestion. Reminds also that the devs do not truly control Dogecoin, but the community does, which means that drastic mesures such as this probably will not pass.

Most agree in the comments that the foundamentals should not be changed, as this would break confidence in Dogecoin.

Quite a few is a VERY small percentage. The POWER of this coin was all the "Normals" that mined it. THEY will not bother nor even be capable of running asic's.

ASIC does not mean profit.

Profit = number of coins x price of coin

Number of coin: your proportion of hash rate to the network hash rate x block reward

Price of coin: supply-demand relationship -> also max coin supply and the speed they are released

Buying the 450kH will get you as much DOGE as mining with a CPU today in a few weeks if not by mid-summer.

With the proposed increase in coin supply, don't expect DOGE to be worth anything.  

DOGE had the best community but it seems devs are clueless as ever.  DOGE is going back to its roots, in the LMAO category.  Investors and merchants cannot take you serious.

How is that going to help? Those units are on the way out.  They are way too slow.  Each will be worth $10 when much better $/hash are shipped in the summer.

Quite a few, actually. Everyday I see posts on reddit about people buying ASICs for Doge, and I did that myself. And because they use such a small amount of energy, it might even be profitable even with the small block rewards of 2015.


This is just an idea a developper had, which is indeed very bad. Thankfully, I don't believe the Dogecoin community will accept that.

Interesting and stupid. they are alienating thier core. Really these people are pretty moronic. ASIC's will destroy the coin. I can't believe they need this explained to them. Being as I only hold 100k I could care less though. too bad I like the lightheartedness of the coin.

My only question to these retard DEVS is how many of the holders are going to buy asic's just for this coin?

The majority of people on /r/dogecoin seem quite opposed to it, I doubt this will pass. Also, lets not forget that Doge is not centralized; 51% of miners will probably reject that, because of the drop in value that this will cause.

A solution that has been proposed that seems interesting to me, is to do a similar monthly tapering, but only after the next halvening when the block reward will have dropped, and then adjust the perpetual block reward to 5000 instead of 10000. However, it might be better to simply leave things as they are, because one of the interesting aspect of cryptocurrencies is the fact that no central enthity can make artificial inflation; actions like changing the block rewards might make people untrustful of dogecoin because of that.

why is it a very good news? that shitty doge developer just proposing to faster then inflation rate of dogecoin. Now the price is dropping even faster. Also the way he propose it is like he's going to implement it in 1.8 without any discussion.

This news is pretty interesting. Seeing DOGE embrace the flood of ASICs is big news indeed. I was under the impression changes would be made to make it ASIC-resistant.
