Wait until we start our giveaways and bounty's.

We wanted to be transparent and put the 2% openly in the OP, you guys didn't copy the important part though (to be used for giveaways, bounty's, ongoing support/dev, dist., etc.). It would be silly to simply dump first chance you got or anyone got, we'd be back to square one starting over fast. We want to create enough to distribute and then have mining still be at a rate where these have some rarity to them and not have a super short lifecycle or blanket the market with them or start with zero/no incentive for anyone.

There has to be a balance and we figured 2% would be good and healthy for all + enough to give away to make people want to hold for longevity.

Feedback appreciated as always. We expected to see this brought up and are open to suggestions.

One of the problems with pre-mining is a lack of transparency.

I think you can really do very well with the community if you show a good level of transparency. That takes extra effort, but isn't really all that hard. You've got the Export function to get all that info fast, and you can then show it in the blockchain.

I know that you can't really have 110% solid plans, but those that are a bit more mature and that understand the topic a bit better will likely understand.

You're going to get flak no matter what you do, but if you are really genuine, a bit of transparency will only help.

270 Million premined -> wait till the crap hit an exchange -> dump and scam all noobs

Very possible. But why? You can earn a lot more by playing a longer game. Dunno... I guess that I just have more faith in people sometimes. Perhaps I'm optimistic. As a developer and crypto enthusiast, I know what I'd do, but I'm not everyone, so... who knows?

Won't build in linux mint

g++: error: E:MinGWliblibws2_32.a: No such file or directory
g++: error: E:MinGWlibliboleaut32.a: No such file or directory
make: *** [earthcoin-qt] Error 1

Installed every mingw package I could see in synaptic - doesn't work.

There might b an easier way to fix this but Ive noticed this on many alt coins wallet when building in linux, I basically use the feathercoin source file feathercoin-qt.pro, then i empty out the new altcoin-qt.pro file, paste in the contents of the feathercoin one and replace the word feather with the new altcoin, then qmake && make and it usually works - its just got references to building on windows on most of the sources

That doesn't make it just work like feathercoin instead ?

Naa im pretty sure the code is the same for both the files, i had a quick look at some other -qt.pro files from other coins and the main differences r with libraries for windows being within that file or not but for linux its not needed which is why I thought fixing it by removing that line would b an easier approach that I read was posted before, but its basically just a file linking all the libraries and project files together and naming the ending binary, ive currently got my wallet running by switching over the file tho

260 000 000 premined coins when i'm getting 200 coins/hour on the second day?
I'm out =/

Wait. What? These were premined?

premined 2% (main post)
13.5 billion total coins

= 270 000 000 premined coins.

amazing

Not really. Pre-mining isn't always a bad thing. The chances that the coin takes on a life and does anything is pretty slim. Pre-mining allows the dev team to have bounties, giveaways, fund faucets, and all that kind of stuff.

Without that, what would the devs do? Giving away coins is a great way to get people involved. Just look at Dogecoins. People were giving it away like there was no tomorrow and it has caught on.

If you're a developer, and not a gamer, chances are you don't have massive mining rigs. You don't need 8 GPUs on a software development machine.

The entire anti-pre-mining thing is a bit overdone sometimes.

Now, 2% might be a bit high... Not sure what an appropriate level is... I guess that it depends on the projected lifespan of mining until only transaction fees remain.

There is a fine balance to achieve there, and I think we're still seeing a lot of experimentation going on.

Now, for a lot of coins... well, I just don't see much value other than for gambling on. Meh... Whatever. If you're buying USD, you're gambling. If you're buying Euro, you're gambling. Foreign exchange is just pure gambling. So what's the difference? Crypto is more volatile, etc. etc. etc.

270 MILLIONS of coins is TOO HIGH premining.

skillrun,

Download and use an older version of cgminer, I use 3.6.6 and many miners I know use 3.5x versions as well. The newer versions of cgminer do not support mining with a GPU(graphics cards) or the mining of scrypt coins such as EarthCoin.

Hope that helps.

3.7.2 supports GPU mining ... that's the version I'm on.

Post your configuration, most importantly the command line w/flags you are using to start CGMiner or a copy of the configuration file you are using, and what video card(s) you are using. Can't help much without this info.

using a simple laptob so:

Thanks for your help

First off, I would never recommend mining on a laptop. Mining is an intense process, and you will likely ruin your laptop before even coming close to making enough money to be worth that kind of risk.

Secondly, you can't just double click on CG miner to run, you have to specify (at the very least) what algorithm you're mining, a mining pool URL (or localhost URL), username and password.

Finally, I'm not sure that you would even get 10kh/s from your 4200 HD GPU... so I guess what I'm trying to say, is mining with your current hardware setup is probably one of the worst ideas ever.

If you really want to get into mining, do some research in the mining hardware subforums so you can get an idea of what it really takes. Your laptop is not going to cut it.

Why on earth would the dev want to mine any coins let alone 270 MILLION!?

Crazy indeed. So, does anyone else get the feeling of a pump and dump? Unless the next giveaway is for 200+ million then I feel one coming on. Fancy graphics doesn't make a good dev team & successful coin.
