I appreciate the assist, but I attempted all of this earlier. These are great instructions on most of the cloud servers, but the IBM Power 8 seems to be a different beast. I really appreciated sologap's help today with setting it up for solo mining, but I have yet to get it working on the pool with the available settings.

The cloud mining guide is here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.9384957

I'm guessing that the IBM Power 8 instances have a slightly different architecture that is incompatible with the current rev2 capminer for noncepool then ? Perhaps you could post the errors that your getting or I'll try to test it over the weekend. TBH I'm mining Slimcoin at RunAbove at present and mining Gapcoin at both DO and VULTR.

Solo mining works at RunAbove, so it will just be a matter of reproducing the 'error' with rev2 capminer and making it compatible with the P8 chip set.

When using the cloud mining guide I get "-su: gapminer-noncepool/64/gapminer: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error". It does this for both the solo mining setup guide and the pool mining guide. The wallet had to be recompiled within the instance in order to function at all.

Decided to encrypt the wallet with a large sum of GAP. Entered the password. But when after some time I tried to unlock the wallet, the password did not match. Backup, I was not. For two days I worked on this problem. Eventually scanned the harddrive with WinHEX and found all the fragments 01D63081D30201010420 on disk, immediately after they begin private key. Then I entered these data in written in Python script that appealed to each of these places on the drive was reading data and recode them in the desired format. Private key + address. Turned out to be a large file, I'll run a search and found there is a lost private key by address. Victory!

but why did that happened? Should we be wary of encrypting the wallet?

I noticed that when you reinstall on another computer with a purse walllet.dat  necessary to also copy the conf.

Can I get a little help setting up a miner on linux? I keep getting "cannot execute binary file: Exec format error"

If anyone can PM me I'd appreciate it.

Localhost Linux Guide for CPU mining Gapcoin at: http://gap.nonce-pool.com/ - Ubuntu x64 (probably Debian and other Linux too)

Open a new terminal window by pressing: CTRL + ALT + T

Code:
sudo apt-get install p7zip-full

Code:
wget github.com/gapcoin/GapMiner/releases/download/gapminer-noncepool-linux-rev2/gapminer-noncepool-rev2.zip

Code:
7z x gapminer-noncepool-rev2.zip

Code:
gapminer-noncepool/64/gapminer -o http://mine3.gap.nonce-pool.com -p 4200 -u YOURusername.YOURworker -x x --retries -1 -t NUMBER OF CPU THREADS

DONE !

@j0nn9: I work with https://brainwallet.github.io/. If set address_version = 0x26 as Gamerscoin, it does not generate the correct private key.

What in gapcoin  PUBLIC_KEY_VERSION, PRIVATE_KEY_VERSION, ADDRESS_VERSION ?

UPD.

I have found myself.

ADDRESS_VERSION = 0x26
PRIVATE_KEY_VERSION = 0x61

if my CPU is going to burn because of this coin.......
i will be really mad !

Mine are already on fire!

Let's get to 35.5!

The difficulty is just the minimum size of a gap to generate a block. The miner will also find larger gaps - the largest one found so far was a lot larger than needed.

Your chances of breaking the record are always the same, no matter what difficulty!

Agran first of all your blockchain explorer, charts, faucet and everything are great!

I would only request a detail view of merits. Thats all.

Meanwhile hashrate doubled in the last 24-48 hours!

Anyone has requested coinmarketcap to add gapcoin?

What do you mean by detail? Like this: http://gapcoin.org/primegaps.php, but with more customized view?

Got another 29+ merit today!

if you scroll down at statistics you can see the hyperlink 'detail' Wink

6/8 cores
thanks god winter is visiting for the weekend...

Let's get to 35.5!

Always using one less CPU thread or core is a very good idea and in general never mine using a laptop. Use cloud servers instead.
