Is someone mining it on linux vps?

so if i understand cbuchner right its only a matter of time better performing miners on all platforms will be avaiable

it took us longer than a week and lots of debugging to come up with the new implementation. It took some serious brain skillz too. Wink  And no, we don't intend to open source this.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that mining with a proprietary GPU miner closed to other devs is a good thing. I can't really seem to do it.

I missed the part where you had a constructive suggestion for how to pay for weeks of work by two professional and highly skilled developers. Smiley

Not entirely sure how to respond to this except by saying Im offering a 20k bounty for AMD and thats 0.2BTC on a better day. Id hope anybody developing for GRS would see then potential growth here and enjoy the celebrity such optimizatiosn would make. Also I hope others will add to my existing bounty or create incentives of their own.

It seems to me the argument you make could apply to almost all bounties for all optimizations of new coins.

Obviously I hope devs feel properly remunerated for their time, even if not today then in a month Wink

thanks

Groestlcoin Mining (optimized sgminer codes for GPU's: R9 290, R9 280X, HD 7870, HD 7950) (turkish)

You've published a Turkish mining guide - awesome! Smiley

to be clear - you're not making a claim on 50% performance boost for AMD Bounty, right?

altho u deserve something for the mining guide! Smiley
thats a donation address then?

cheers and thanks for the contribution Smiley

Maybe I'm just a naive ideologue , but the open nature of crypto currency in general is it's primary allure -to me at least. Open source and peer reviewed is best all around for any aspect of this crazy mining endeavor.

With Scrypt ASICs loudly clanging the death knell of impending profitability decline for massive GPU Scrypt farms. A new coin sporting an eco-friendly (by comparison) algorithm shows up just in time for summer. An 'every mans' mining coin with low power consumption that levels the play field and furthers the goal of widely distributed hash rate. But would that necessarily be the case if I have to pay a premium for a proprietary mining app?

So to C&C I ask: why is this a good idea to anyone other than yourselves?

and to the larger community I ask: does anyone else see an issue and if so what are the implications.

I have a list of options, but before I share them, I'm serious - what's your proposal in a way that you think is best for the currency and gives those devs a reason to do their work?

You could argue that they just shouldn't improve the state of the art, but that's not right -- it just means that someone with a private optimized version would be that much more easily able to control the network.  So, what's the best way?

And, btw:  An "energy-efficient" algorithm from a family that was a SHA-3 candidate means only one thing:  There's not a good implementation yet...

Just opened new pool (proportional, 1% fee) - for 100 first miners fee will be 0%

https://www2.coinmine.pl/grs/
Primary Node: mine1.coinmine.pl:3000

feeleep

Guys who joined us from the beginning earned 20% more than expected (lucky pool) and we still have 50 GRS bonus for block finder - spread the hashpower and join us!

it's like max coin all over again, and heavycoin - once they have had their fill/lions share they will release it. until them the hobby miners will just have to wait.

If there is no significant deficiencies, change the rules means SCAM,
and that is the doom of GroestlCoin

What are you talking about? Also, why the huge font?

I advise against hardforking unless something is broken. Features like PoS are mostly untested and prone to abuse/exploitation.
If it's not broken, don't 'fix' it.

Again glad to hear that. Thanks for the feedback Smiley

pos untested?
since peercoin pos is tested......

but true is that pos add difficulty in maintainance and update code

u cant launch a pos coin without maintain code

5k for a new logo (to be deemed by consensus "cooler" than the existing one)*
Why would you change the logo? In my opinion your current logo really stands out from a wall of round coin logo's and it is something most people know. Recognition is always good in something as a logo.

Good to hear! Just wanted to see what people came up with Smiley

Dont have much time now - will flesh it out later…
srcxxx (amongst others) has recently mentioned PoS and maybe switching after a few months. So…

Idea

1.keep mining PoW for couple more months / summer end
2. then move to PoW/PoS combo
3. Move to combo would coincide with a possible rebranding / new logo / PR blitz

Bounties.

This has to be sorted out. I dont officially represent the coin but those of you who know me know Im passionate and dedicated to it.

so in addition to any official bounties I pledge the following

5k for a new logo (to be deemed by consensus better than the existing one)*
10k for 33% or more performance boost to CPU miner (64 or 32 bit)
20k for 50% or more performance boost to AMD miner
25k for ARM miner (code to be made available. payment after verification)

* I like the idea of using the Ø symbol in it.

Others are welcome to pledge themselves (I will track the pledges) and if this is acceptable people's words will count till such time as the Bounties are formalized. Anyway my word is good and I've have paid all Bounties I have offered in the past. Ask instacash for example.

Blue skies and helicopter thinking…

the ARM miner you can consider my personal project but i believe in it. Without getting into a long spiel I would simply point out that Googlecoin would run on ARM. ARM procs are getting a lot faster a lot quicker.
http://mashable.com/2013/12/13/google-intel-arm/

If this coin went PoW/PoS I love the idea of ARM chips helping to secure the network in years to come. In no time the public will only carry ARM. The landscape of mining will be very different in no time at all. The ARM implementations exist and it should be doable
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.6238355

The similarity to AES might also mean Grøstl gets hw accelaerations.

Any feedback?

You could implement a dev fee in your miner and get a lot more coins than you could have mined yourself. If your miner is much faster than sg-miner then I'm sure you could get away with even 10% fee, something you might want to think about.
so is there a bounty for optimized amd miner? which is the minimum hashrate gain acceptable?

u asking twice allready u have a optimized miner and dont wana share without bounty?

The bounty will be a fraction of what you will be able to mine in a couple days with an optimized miner, so no real interest in it.
I was just wondering because nobody answered the question and everybody is interested in an ARM version instead, which doesn't make too much sense IMHO.
The reason is that most arm devices (phones, tablets...) are not designed to run cpu intensive tasks for long (not hardware-wise: they will overheat and throttle; nor software-wise: the OS might kill the process).
It is a good concept for hashrate distribution, though.

While I mostly mine AMD, I think that CPU optimizations should be a major focus, especially with faster GPU hashrates on the way. I think having around a 5-10x gpu vs cpu speed advantage is a really cool feature of this coin and could help with it's success because anybody can mine it.
