You can decide if you want a rescan with importprivkey:

importprivkey [label] [rescan=true]

yep, it's quite useful if you import many keys not to wait for each to complete

I never did it (contacting the exchanges etc. as "main coin dev") but I guess a couple months is enough.
At least I've seen such timing (between 1 and 2 months) used by other coins with success.
I was wondering about the block exploerer, is it managed by someone still active?

The faucet is also managed by this site.

The https://bitnodes.net master nodes are managed by the guys in this thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-bitnodes-crypto-coin-managed-node-hosting-services-node-crowd-funding-1058996 but their OP wasn't online since close to a month. But he might answer to a PM.

Bittrex is quick to upgrade wallets I heard but same as you, I've never did this before so I don't really know.

I think a couple of months might be too long of a wait as it might be hard to create volume to stay on bittrex while the blockchain is slow and there are no blockrewards.
But then again it's hard to gauge how long the blockchain will move.

Hi,

The only major thing we need to really focus on is to have Bittrex update the wallet client for the fork. Other than confirming legitimacy and checking the software, the rest is only to sync the new wallet, all these can be done in few days. I think one month is more than enough, and even  2 weeks should not be a problem and can be justified, considering the urgency of rescuing the Joincoin Network.

Now we are at block 628285, It would be feasible to set the mining to start @ 630000, ( likely taking 14-16 days to reach based on average daily total block counts of about 100 per block per day), if we can get it ready in a couple of days; otherwise, adding another 500-1000 block might be needed, but this can hit right at the Christmas time, not necessary a problem.

In the worst case scenarios, as long as the user is not mining, the old wallet will likely still work.

The talk has been going on for 2 weeks; it should not be a problem for miners following on this thread.

The other sites are only services which can be notified (by anyone and certainly I can do that and you can leave it to me), probably all at once with the same messages, i.e., A fork with Github links and ( taking advantage of the notice by adding) new infos (such as website which I will make one before the end of the month.)

--------------------------------------------------------------
Hosting information (expiration day, cost, extending the services) are here: Anyone can help to contribute to extend the service, just in case.

Explore (CryptoID): https://chainz.cryptoid.info/j/#!crypto
Faucet (CryptoGuru): http://cryptoguru.tk/CurrencyInfo/index.php?Currency=J

Bitnodes have all 3 Joincoin node (as green) being up or seemingly running (if I am not wrong) and the only problem is that no one respond to any request. It still show expiration date of May/2016 although it was paid to extend service for another year, with an upgrade. I have the imagination that it seems to be running and could possibly update to the new fork as requested if I give it a trial. Huh
------------------------------------------

As long as the above sites are working and updated. Other sites (such as bitcoinmarketcap) does not need any update except to be notified of a new website.

Other sites/services, such requesting to be listed on a couple of new exchanges and Coinomi (which requires being on 3 exchanges and being on the top 100 marketcap list, etc.), can be started in our leisure, some takes more time and efforts. Before that, We will need to have a webwallet to extend the mobile use and promotions. More plans to follow.  Cheesy

Hi,

Did anyone notice that an address imported from the other one to a new wallet is not working?

The commands dumprivkey -> importprivkey are working well and the imported address showed up in the table through the "Receive" tab.

The problem is that the expected transactions/balance carried with the imported address do not show up, even after I restarted the wallet client twice. I have a lot of experience in using these processes with the other cryptos.

I would be a problem itself and very bad for future paper wallet or webwallet ( during the down time) users.   Smiley

as pallas said you should rescan after importing all keys,
this wallet doesn't rescan itself on each importprivkey command,
only adding the key to the pool, personally i like that behavior

I had a look at the chain status and the blocks are coming much slower than blocktime, of course it's because there are very few miners and some algos are probably untouched.
Hence I can't detemine a starting blocktime for the new reward scheme.

Anyway, here is a draft:

int64 static GetBlockValue(int nHeight, int64 nFees)
{
    int64 nSubsidy = 0.5 * COIN;
    if (nHeight == 1) nSubsidy = 1400000 * COIN; // IPO block
    else
    if (nHeight <= 800) nSubsidy = 0.5 * COIN;
    else
    if (nHeight <= 2000) nSubsidy = 6 * COIN;
    else
    if (nHeight <= 10000) nSubsidy = 5 * COIN;
    else
    if (nHeight <= 20000) nSubsidy = 4 * COIN;
    else
    if (nHeight <= 40000) nSubsidy = 3 * COIN;
    else
    if (nHeight <= 626200) nSubsidy = 2 * COIN;
    else
    if (nHeight >= 629000 && nHeight <= 1329800) nSubsidy = 1 * COIN;

    return nSubsidy + nFees;
}

Looking good. How much time do you think is needed for everyone to upgrade (users, exchanges, other services)?

Did you try starting the wallet with "-rescan"?

Thank you for the above inputs. I am glad that it is not a problem after all.  Cheesy

I can setup the new block reward on my fork. If the community agrees, we will push the new wallet to the exchanges etc.
What about 1J from 1 Jan 2017 to 1 Jan 2018, then 0.5J forever?
idea ok, but use fixed block height for that changes.

Of course. I will post the code snippet as soon as possible.

I like that pallas. Let's see what others think.

I like that, too.  Cheesy

As long as mining activities continue to grow, the Joincoin network will stay strong without the possible benefits of adding POS. All those have been discussed since last year.

One thing I am afraid of is that whatever the remaining original seed nodes, if any, might not fork along to the new wallets but most likely it does not matter.

Secondary, We would need to start a new website. The Joincoin.com has been taken. Our previous Joincoin.org site has been down. I will set one up (Joincoinz.com) within a week. It would be mainly for users and promotions, as mobile friendly as possible.

The other things are adding wallet features, including such as promotional games. It might directly or indirectly help to attract new users and values and more miner supports. Does anyone know if opening a wallet to play game(s) without mining helps the network? In any circumstances, we would need a webwallet system for mobile users and promotions. Wallet features, if desirable, might just stay with webwallets or even independent apps. If integration with the regular wallet is a great idea and affordable, we can always keep a light (original) version and a media (enhanced) version.

Cheer.  Cheesy

Why block produced in solo shows [0.00]

Because it was intended that miners only mine transaction fees. Unfortunately there's nowhere near enough transactions going on for that to happen.

Check out the previous page for more info.

I think we should come together and fork it to have some rewards, like 1 J per block then 0.5 and then so on.

Maybe better move it to POS mining system?

Why? The main uniquie feature of this coin is that it has 13 different mining alghorithms. Remove that and it's just another coin.

But there's no reason not to also add PoS into the mix but it would take a lot of time and effort to develop.

I think we should just fork it only changing the blockreward because that could be done quickly and painlessly.

If we start wanting to add a bunch of features this coin will be long forgotten by the time the fork is ready with the features.
