Can someone care to answer my doubts?
1. Do we need to mine this coin or buy from exchanges to hold?
2. If I create MEMES, will I be able to get some coins? Is this an alternative to mining like "Proof of MEME"

Yup, silly impatient ones...but I guess they want their ROI, fair enough. Why not just hold some MEME for a bit - why sell at 2500 when you can sell at 4x that (or more!?) in the not so distant future most likely??
D'oh well, more for those who're interested in MEME and cheap coins like myself.
