But will it work with cgminer/bfgminer, that's the real question.

Complete opposite, We did some time tables and realized our greatest time waster was us smashing trolls

There's a difference between "smashing trolls" and "keeping your customers informed". It is insulting to your customers to say that you kept them in the dark simply because trolls exist.

This picture seems to be entitled ASIC Preview #1: http://imgur.com/Y8QzhRP

It's even an off-grid, self-powered unit, apparently.

But will it work with cgminer/bfgminer, that's the real question.
I thought I'd have to write a driver for it, but now I have to find a rider for it.

How can you actually buy one of these Avalong ASIC miners?

I went to their website and it is just an email subscription list or whatever. Are they even for sale?

Bigger than a mini pc case, how could it automatically connect to your wifi without any user interface to input the wifi password? Grin

Whaaaa? If it was smaller than a mini pc case, it could automatically connect to your wifi?

Then it might have a touchscreen  Cheesy

Why does everything have to be so darn odd? Does avalon like the attention and drama?

Complete opposite, We did some time tables and realized our greatest time waster was us smashing trolls and "convincing" potential buyers in a market where demand far exceed supply. Frankly speaking at this point we are not even going to deal with slander and other false comments.

"Truth does not become more true by virtue of the fact that the entire world agrees with it, nor less so even if the whole world disagrees with it."

The absolute easiest thing for you to do.... supply Jeff with a tracking number. Don't even take time to reply to this or any other posts, just do that one thing.

Ditto, this would have been the simplest proof.

I should probably say Jeff's unit, I paid about ~$400 USD to "get it out of the country", so it is definitely on it's way and I'm sure it'll arrive before this week ends assuming there's no problems with US customs.

Again, only a matter of time.
Why did it cost so much?

1.'Inexperience'
2. No formal business/export license in China.....

For 100RMB... there are 'cleaners' and staff in Shenzhen Lo Wu who will lead you 'round' the Chinese customs/passport counters, or for 500RMB they will hand carry an item 'round' the controls for you.........

So.....

I'm copying a snippet from a post from someone stuck in newbie jail so it was first posted in that forum board:

I wanted to say: When shipping to Europe, and especially France, Belgium, Italy and Spain, please unscrew the antenna and do not put the antenna in the package. The customs in these countries are really butthurt if they think it contains a transmitter for which a CE declaration does not exist. It's not really a problem, you can self-certify for CE, you just need someone in Europe to sign the declaration of conformity. Avalon could provide the required documents, have the receiver sign them (but he is then fully responsible for meeting the requirements), submit them to the customs, and get the package. This would add at least on month of delay for these costumers.

Also, put a CE mark on the box and on the equipment. You can still get the package if it has none (suppose you are the importer who is going to put the product on the EU market and who will put the CE mark on it), but this requires a lot of paperwork and delay.

This is a pretty large box that has a high chance of being opened by the customs if its sent by HK post or certainly if sent with EMS. DHL has little problems, since they do customs declaration in advance, and only 1:100 packages is typically opened.

I wonder if a manual is going to come with this thing.  This seems like its going to be a small pain in the butt without a usb port.  Whoever buys this will have to have at least a small knowledge of networking because either

A) It will come with a static address so you can plug in directly to it and telnet/ssh in to change the it to the appropriate address so you can use it normally
Hopefully it comes with a crossover cable to facilitate an easy set up.

B) it will pick up a dhcp address and you will have to log into your router and figure out the address based on that.
They could make the manual available online as a PDF.

Then there is the issue of actually configuring it to work with software remotely . . .  If you misconfigure something and block yourself from the box, how do you reset it to get back in?
Good question...

Hopefully they implemented a jumper or something.

I have a feeling that even if you got this device tomorrow, you still won't be able to use it for a while.  Maybe I'm wrong and they already have it working with a miner.  While I bought into BFL I'm honestly not hating or trolling.  I'd like to see this thing actually work.  Perhaps this is why there isn't any video yet.
Lets hope they put lots of thought into making it easy to use and set up.

Confucius says, “Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself.”

then answer this,

"How was this any different than batch #1 of Avalon?"

I'm not imposing anything. A demonstration will come by a customer very soon, if you wish to wait until then, go ahead; but you then run into the risk of not making into batch #2, and where if I don't open orders now, I run into the issue not able to order parts before CNY, which has a pretty long lead time.

Batch #1 worked due to the good will a working fpga product gets you. You delivered before so people took the risk.
But now batch #2 selling should be based on the good will a working batch #1 asic device in the field garners.
To take more orders without showing some proof, when asic companies are going under, makes a potential customer just shake their head in confusion and skepticism.

You know there is enough greed in this community to sell batch #2 without a shred of proof but i thought this company was better then that. Almost like we are a nuisance. Taking some good pics or video is so easy now days there is no reason not to share at this point. Or perhaps give the 1-2 customers a tracking number so they can be ready to do so.

I just find it odd this has become so antagonistic. That a company refuses to reassure any and all possible customers. It just does not make any real sense to act this way. So no proof? I guess that means the less trusting among us will just wait as we have been.

We are excited to see something and for avalon.. But we will not be treated as dirt in the mean time due to us asking some very legitimate questions that normally deserve due consideration for a reasonable answer.

It's a box of fans. I can tell from the fans, having seeing a lot of boxes of fans in my time.

2nd

edit: Oh I guess we're not supposed to make posts like this. Perhaps some verbose will make my post more adequate.

I too have seen many boxes of fans and from my experience I can say that is certainly a box of fans or at least box with fans on its surface.
