Bitmain promised to update their firmware for all models many weeks ago, but still have not done so.
Bitmain also promised to provide a way of upgrade S2 to 1.8 or 2 Th. It's necessary to keep their word...

Watch out for the "Neg-Rep-Dogie-Police".....

Please can you provide information on how S2 users can update their cgminer to the latest version from https://github.com/bitmaintech/cgminer  so that they can protect their miners from the "stratum redirect" security vulnerability.

Can you also please state weather the S4 units are compatible with p2pool, as has been asked repeatedly on the forums.

Hi,

Will reply you on Oct.4th, because we are now in holidays and will get an confirmation from engineer at that time.

Oct. 4th will be almost 7 weeks after you first promised the firmware update to fix these issues. 7 WEEKS!

My coupon for the S4's will shortly run out, but I'm still unable to order as I still don't know if they will work with p2pool. It shouldn't take so long to get a basic answer from you Bitmain, really.

Getting an answer from Bitmain is like getting blood from a stone:

Post a question here - nothing.
PM them a question - nothing.
Email them a question - nothing.

S2 & S3 users have been waiting since August 18th for these answers, that's over 6 weeks!

Dear Community,

Our truly apologies for the mis-understanding reported....blah blah......there is a little mis-communicaton between Customer Service Team and R&D Department...blah blah.....

Any advice from the Community and Global Customers is appreciated, feel free to contact us via PM or [email protected].

Thank you!

Now they have finally upload the newer cgminer code that fixes the security holes (6 weeks late), but they don't give users any information about how to apply the update!! Does that mean their customers have to wait another 6 weeks to get an answer?

It takes seconds to read a post, and minutes to reply with instructions on how to update, yet they don't seem at all interested in making sure that all their customers miners are safe from exploitation.....why is that Bitmain?

@BITMAIN, it really would be easier to decide what to do if new info on S3+ B10 would be available. As stated before the S4 may not be for everyone, and without updates on a new batch of the S3+ I may even consider a bunch of AM Prisma or SP-T hardware instead, which surely crossed others' mind here as well.

hey can anyone help me they set the default shipping to the hosting place and now they are gonna ship my s4 to some where else i need it sent to my home i dont need help hosting what do i do?Huh?

Change the drop box to UPS or whatever carrier you want if the option is there. I missed it initially there as well, but look up there is a drop box to change carrier and change what you need. Shipping is rudely expensive. Its like $180 to me, and only UPS available and they are virtually criminals when it comes to crossing borders and their charges.

Let me tell you what version of cgminer you have in your S3 - it's version 3.12.0 - as are all Bitmain miners to date. Therefore, they all contain security vulnerabilities.

My thoughts too ..!

It is up to the manufacturer to ensure that all their software is safe & issue updates asap.

I am beginning to think that there is a reason that Bitmain want to keep the "stratum redirect" issue in cgminer.....
I'll go as far as suggesting that you are onto something here. The deafening silence about issuing / including an available fix for a serious flaw is telling.

When my s3 arrive i can a sure you i will determine what version is part of there firmware.  It is not a hard task to do so i think it is up to the owner to be responsible for there own equipment.

When a hardware manufacturer publicly promises to update their firmware to fix all security issues - they should do so. It is up to the manufacturer to ensure that all their software is safe & issue updates asap. What you are saying is that microsoft are not responsible for ensuring their software to be safe, and that they are not responsible for issuing security updates? Really?

... so i think it is up to the owner to be responsible for there own equipment.
I can categorically tell you that you think WRONG!
If the software has been shown to have security flaws, as has been, and a fix for the flaws has been issued, and in the case of bitmain who ship their own version of the software, they have been made aware of the security flaw(s), then it is the manufacturer's responsibility to issue patched software / firmware, in the shape of updates and included in all subsequent hardware shipments (all within reason, I have to say).
The question that has been asked of bitmain is whether the firmware updates contain patched software. In your case, and having not heard anything different from bitmain, I anticipate you'll have un-patched software shipped.

I would think that the S3 software version is not the older exploited version.  Easy to do ssh into the miner and get the version that is running.
And do you have any good enough reason why we should believe what you think, that which bitmain can not address on their own volition when asked?

These new AntMiner S4 units should really kick ass.

It would be helpful if Bitmain actually answered some of the many questions that prospective buyers have asked, instead of just guessing that they "should" kick ass. For example:

Are they still using the old cgminer version? If so, why?

Where is a link to the firmware?

Are these compatible with p2pool?

Plus the many others on this thread. Bitmain are selectively answering only a few of their customers questions whenever they log on, but ignoring most of them.

Come on Bitmain - let's have some answers & support please!!

Bitmain - instead of logging on to announce another batch sale then logging off again, how about answering some questions? I don't want to buy something not knowing if it will work with p2pool or not, or weather it's running old, security vulnerable software or not.

Why don't you answer any questions!!??

You might be right on some thing and wrong on others.

1.  I would never send my miners to Bitmain Mining  Data center for any reason. And I pick which pools i mine in not Bitmain.  I host them where the cost is best for me.  So your statements do not hold allot of weight

2.  You have no way of knowing if the BTC that was purchased as a investment will be dumped.  Most muliti Millionaire investors are way smarter then you or I.  I would be very surprised if the BTC got dumped.  They know how to make $$$$ or they would not be were they are in this tough world.

3.  Your statements is a clear indication that your only in this to make short term $$$$$.  So if that's what your about do not blame Bitmain.  Bitmain makes a quality product, there in business to make $$$,  if you do not like there product do not buy it.  But do not slam them publicly for it.

4.  Everyone that is in the mining business has to determine if the cost can be managed, yes the monthly coast expensive, and Equipment if not purchased correctly, is expensive.  And yes the drop in BTC price will cause allot of miners off line. I am still making $$$ at it.

5.  The mining pools that will grow, does so due to the fact they have a quality pool, is reliable, pays the mining fees consistently with out delay.  Thus has a value service that miners wants.  Do not over take the 51% of mining capacity.  There ARE SEVERAL GREAT POOLS OUT THERE.

That's my 3 cents worth.......

The S4 are cheaper then we paid for the S2 and I have achieved ROI on all my Bitmain equipment.   Th 1295 price with coupon is not a bad price.  You will fined free shipping on a heavy device by any seller is getting very unusual.  Not the norm any more.

Just my 2 Cents.

You better keep your 2 cents, your gonna need em if you buy the S4 at the price. Even with the coupon, you will never get your investment back! The reason they want you to buy the machine and send it to them is so that they get the benefit of increasing the pools hash rate. This also means that they get to charge you for the "maintenance" of the miner. However...You can't say these people are stupid! That's for certain. Here's how it plays out....

Hashnest gets your miner and you pay for the shipping and of course the machine at a price where they make a lot of money. We will call that money #1 . Then they get the increase in hashing power which, after a while, will be so outrageous that they will either take over the entire bitcoin network or be very near to it. At that time, and of course when you machine is producing nothing at all (like 1 dollar a month or sooner since they will probably offer you 25 dollars to buy it out at that point) they will get your machine for basically nothing. Even if you don't want to sell it to them, you will not have a choice since shipping to you will probably cost you $100 or more as they get special super (and I mean super!!) low rates from FedEx and UPS to send to the states and really anywhere outside of China. However, you will have to get your own shipping to pick it up! If not, they will charge you just slight lower than the current rate you would normally pay if you did it yourself. So, why add insult to injury? You would sell at that point. Here's why they pick up more money in value since you know that any machine is worth more than $25.00, at lest for the next year anyway. So that's money #2. Then they get to use that increase in hash power to put in the advertisement's to get more people and get other people to quit mining so they their shares go up. That's money #3. After that, they will eventually own the network with over 51% and they can pretty much do what they like. Ghash may still be around but most of the others will be gone. I know I will. I have a large farm and 1th right now is only producing $159 a month and that's at the absolute maximum. Next week when it drops again due to difficulty, it will be $149! The price of bitcoin right now as of this writing is $374 USD. The graphs of the mining activity are going BACKWARDS! This is the first time in about a year that I have ever seen this! 6 blocks are still coming in at 1 HOUR to complete! Normally after this time since the difficulty change you would normally see 52 to 56 minutes for 6 blocks. Being that a ton of people quit mining this week, and sold all their coins I'm sure, the rate is going down and the coin price is following. This can all easily be seen at bitcoinwisdom.com When the gray and the blue lines drop below the red and stay there, nothing good comes of it I assure you! It happened one other time but it was just a few hours and that's when the price came down to 450 for the first time after running up to $1000. This has been sitting here for some time now and I don't see a correction.

The S4 can not make money for us, but as you can easily see above, it makes money out of every orifice for Bitmain. They sell you the golden goose for too much money and then they take all the golden eggs in the end and in some cases hold your goose hostage for transport fees to get him back of which at that time he is either near dead or DOA!

Unless the price turns around and goes up another $300+ on top of what it is (not holding my breath with a guy holding on to 30,000 bitcoins he bought for 20M dollars and already sees 5M in losses and is just a matter of time before he dumps them into the market and we see the coin go to less than $100)! Everything stated here is the truth. I love the coin and concept, always have. Just never thought the Chinese were going to run it into the ground like this. Now the only real unknown question here is...When is the hedge fund that bought all those coins (they were most all bought by 1 person BTW) is going to realize that selling now and taking a 5M loss is better than waiting until later and taking a 15M loss!

You might want to try updating to the S3+ firmware

S1 upgrade kit uses S1 control card that has the frequency set to 350Mhz.

These upgrade kits need lower frequency to hash.

You can download the firmware from bitmain website at

https://bitmaintech.com/files/download/antMiner_S320140826.bin

then, log into your web control panel, go to, SYSTEM tab, and Upgrade tab

Please UNCHECK "keep previous setting" and apply fresh upgrade

Hope this will help!!

One of my antminer s1 upgrade kits isn't working. I think it has something to do with the fact that it is showing 4 chains in the miner status. Please help:

From what I have been reading, the most common thing is to make sure you update to the latest firmware. Or it wont work at all.

Yes I updated to the latest firmware. I have 2 upgrade kits, the first one worked fine. This one isn't working at all. I suspect it has something to do with the 4 chains it is showing. It's only supposed to show 2 chains. Or atleast my one that works only shows 2 chains:

I had the same problem, Just reseated all the cables and it started working. Hope this helps!
