HODL OR DIE
I was thinking he could have shipped them at a discount but locked them to his own mining pool.

I agree with the others, if the price was 0.5 BTC then I'd definitely buy one. No chance of me buying one - or a bundle when they're priced around $240 each. For that price I could get a 7870 which does around 400 MH/s, comes with free games and has a better resale value. Only real downside is that it takes more power, but it can be used for gaming, or Folding@Home as well.

Bitcoin is new, makes sense to hodl.
I think friedcat should make a version that the hashing power is suppressed. As the time goes on, he may send a command to unlock some of it for another 0.2Btc to keep up with the rising hash rate. This way, he does not have to make a new hardware over and over, and starts collect subscription fee instead.

It also mess with the mind people trying to guess whether of not a device can meet ROI, so they have no choice but to buy anyway.

That 10G blade could be sold for 2 btc using this scheme.

I've said it before: 0.5BTC or under and maybe we'll talk. 2BTC is just ridiculous.

It's a fantastic piece of kit, kudos to AM for coming up with it

I have to agree 2BTC is way too much.

Glad to see you are making 10,000 of them though, there's a good chance the price will drop to a more realistic level soon Smiley

Just to nail the point home, these have a MHash/Sec/$ rate of approximately 1.31 whereas an upcoming KNC Jupiter has a MHash/Sec/$ over 50.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

These little guys will take approximately 38 x longer to receive a profit.

Oh, and the value of BTC doesn't factor into the equation at all as you are paying in BTC and receiving BTC through mining.

However, that being said.  I think overall these will help drive the price of bitcoin up as people mining with them won't want to sell their bitcoin at current rates.

I wish I could buy one of these Sad
why? they can't make roi ever, they are useless...

Not being an ass but can you elaborate?

it's the expected onlining of all the other aisc stuff. avalon, but their own units and the chips, the 100th mine, bfl, etc. difficulty is expected by most to launch like a saturn 5 rocket and leave the moon in it's wake.

if that actually happens, ROI with these will go from the current 4 or 5 months (or whatever it is) to longer and longer, until eventually the electrical cost of running one, plus the host pc, exceeds what it earns.

Your math is wrong - roi on these at ~2btc each is 4 to 60 months. I definately isn't the best option because of the sidecosts associated with running 300 of these... but it definately is doable

Yes ROI is going to be rough, but you have no idea of what the future price of BTC will be.

Also, buying one of these; just for the _fun_ of it and helping the BTC community, is more important than how rich you get!

It's the idea that is important, not the product!

Do these require a serial connection over USB drivers (FTDI)?
