Don't miss iEx.ec Press Release in The Merkle : https://themerkle.com/iex-ec-distributed-cloud-computing/

iEx.ec presented a working demo of the world’s first distributed cloud computing network at the European Ethereum Conference EDCON this week. The French startup aims to be the first to market with a new technology that uses blockchain smart contracts to redesign cloud computing.

A Vision for the Future

Iex.ec is creating a distributed market network that it hopes will be home to a new generation of businesses. Internet of Things (IoT), Distributed Applications (DApps) and High Performance Computing (HPC) – commonly known as “supercomputing” could all benefit from access to the iEx.ec distributed cloud. These types of businesses are resource intensive and current cloud environments are too costly, or simply unsuitable for distributed business models. The iEx.ec distributed cloud will create a native environment in which they can thrive, lowering costs through the sharing of resources such as computing power and enabling them to do business with on another.

Powering up DApps with computing resources, a top priority for iEx.ec

Due to specific design principles of blockchain implementations, DApps have limited computing resources at their disposal for their execution. The current transaction performance on Ethereum networks is insufficient, putting a barrier up DApps to implement real, complex functionalities.

To enrich the DApps with functionalities and consequently with more computing power, they need to be capable of going outside their underlying blockchain to get those resources. This is what we call “off-chain” computation.

From this perspective, iEx.ec provides the DApps with a mandatory (and missing) capability to access off-chain computation resources.

Blockchain and distributed computing at the service of reducing the environmental footprint

By Laurence Goussu

The Avalon research team, a joint team between Inria, CNRS, ENS de Lyon and the University Lyon1, in collaboration with the start-up Stimergy, is proposing a new distributed Cloud approach. This approach notably opens up prospects in the field of optimising the use of data centers with a reduction in their environmental footprint.
