Did you delete the old blockchain and tried downloading it from scratch?
Make sure though, you don't delete you wallet.dat.

I have a problem i was trying to sync the wallet to see if I received any coins and it was syncing but now it stopped syncing suddenly, the green bar is now gone and it still says out of sync what shall I do? I am not your most techie peep. 
Back up your wallet.dat and make sure you are using the latest version from the OP
