The old chain is dead and burried, we can no longer verify people's claim about their coins, and there are a lot of false claims. I don't say this is the case for you, but a lot of scammers tried.
However, there has been an automatic swap on Bittrex for everyone who sent their coins there for about 3 weeks, and it was notified in advance. Also, it's hard to have missed that Shift has been attacked twice in September, even crypto press talked about it. I feel sorry for you it's what happened to you. In an ever changing environment like cryptocurrencies, every cryptocurrency holder should check the news about their portfolio at least once a week.
After that, we offered to manually swap for even longer than 3 weeks. I don't know the details about you, but now the person who did the swap is no longer around, probably tired of all the trolls that this environment inevitably generates...

As for the coin's future, we hope to give you new ways to spend your SHIFT really soon. And what is the best way to offer an incentive to get some SHIFT and hope they will get more value, if not speculation and gambling? So, expect some simple games or casino like games to spend your coins into. On a mid term, also expect speculative assets to be offered through SHIFT network as Dapps.

DEVELOPMENT UPDATE DEC 18
Hi Shift community,

We would like to inform you about the latest developments regarding the Shift project.
- today we released the new Shift version 5.2.0, a further milestone in stabilizing and speeding up the shift code.

- later today we will provide you official snapshots of the shift database
from then the time-intensive rebuild from scratch belongs to the past
- development on ipfs is ongoing
- Icarus, the blockchain app, is now in testing phase

Btw we have also to say, our roadmap was here a little bit too optimistic.
It'll take longer to get there, because of
a) alpha status of lisk codebase regarding sidechains
b) ipfs differs a lot more from zeronet than expected

That's why we had to adjust our roadmap a bit: https://www.shiftnrg.org/roadmap
But be assured, we have our goal before eyes!
