noobie question -- please be kind

do I need to launch the qt with -server in order to stake?

What do you mean by -server? If you're not staking, your wallet might be locked.

Ignoring the issue of a locked wallet for the moment ...
I mean launch the qt as follows .... silkcoin-qt.exe -server

No it is not necessary to start it in server mode.

Hashcows is paying out in SC for a long time.

Only a fork at 60k.

This block is higher than that -- any ideas why it would not show up in my wallet (assuming my address is correct, of course)

Can you remove everything in your folder except wallet.dat and download the blockchain again?

I can try that -- I had downloaded the block chain zip file, and let it sync the last 4 days worth.

Download the blockchain directly trough the client. avoid the zip file

That did it, good idea -- I would suggest that the block zip be deleted and the instructions changed if it cannot be used

I talked with a staff member of Coinking, there is a possibility of adding the coin, but he wants to speak with one of the devs first.

You can connect him on Freenode #Coinking, and private message Jool

Coinking is a Multipool with an 1% fee that auto-convert automatically and pay in the coin of your choise.

The only fees attached to the process are what originate from the exchange and from the respective blockchain itself that you pay for sending any transaction. The blockchain fee is divided up amongst the total number of users in the current conversion.

Maybe, SilkCoin can be added there.

Did you remove everything except wallet.dat?

What can help (I had almost the same issue)

Restart the client a few times and everytime you started the client let it download for one minute.

My client also got stuk at 60000 and it would only download one block per minute or hour sometimes.

If you restart it few times it will download like 500 blocks per time you restart it, at a sudden point it will pass the 'stuck' point and the block sync will continue as normal

Thanks for the reply, its now syncing.

If it is stuck at block 60000 (what I think) You need to download the new wallet, because there was a hardfork at that block.

You can download the new wallet here  https://github.com/hanzlambrecht/silkcoin/releases/

Delete your old silkcoin client everything in your Appdata folder except wallet.dat

Than open new Silkcoin client and download the new blockchain again.

Its stuck at block 58989, but i do have the new wallet version.
