The 280x is a waste of money. Just buy 280's. Save yourself the $/£/€

just a quick question for the tech guys out there im thinking of buying a sapphire 280x to replace my xfx 6870

as far as I can tell from googling both cards under load are around 250watts so I shouldn't need a new psu

does anyone disagree with this from their own experience of running a 280x

280x is a replacement for the old 7950s basically but they do use a bit more power then the 7950s. It's a decent buy if you planning to mine the coin at these prices but what happens when this coins POW phase ends. There normally isn't much other coins to mine where you can ROI, although you could mine other coins a buy SLG with it.

Obviously if you plan on gaming with the card then it's just a win/win Smiley

What PSU do you have? A 600 Watt or 550 Gold Status power supply should be more then enough, it also depends on what other devices you are running.

also gaming the 6870 is getting a little old for that now but mining is also the plan and im not a 1 coin person

when pow ends I will probably mine new launches and sell for slg if all goes well

I have 550 gold psu

other devices:
1 dvd writer (may as well disconnect it I don't use it
I usb ext drive with auto power off when not in use (only used for storage so never powered up)
i7 2700k
wireless card disabled
1 hdd only powers up when torrenting (not porn honest)
1 ssd
4 fans low wattage if I remember right
2 x 4gb ram
and obviously MB

so nothing power consuming

thanks for the help ill be maybe buying one at weekend (from scan.co.uk with bitcoin)

thx sterlingcoin

Looks like someone is purposely pushing the price down on bittrex to force miners to sell out for less. Clever tactic unless someone takes that sell order out.

More like the multipool driving the prices down with auto conversion to btc going on.
Might as well put in low price orders in if the multipool will sell cheap.

Any decent brand of PSU over 400W will be able to handle a 280X (250 for GPU and around 70W for CPU etc). I had 2 on my machine with a Corsair 650W. On my rig we had 6 280X's with two Platinum rating (can't remember the make) 1200W PSU's. Maybe overkill, but it was the cheapest workable option leaving room for upgrades... Sold up though as mining became unprofitable when ASIC's kicked in. Even with SLG at this price i don't understand how miners are mining it to even cover the electric bill.

Excellent to see we can all rent a place in the sun.

Lovely.

Maybe after all the hard work is done and we are all happy with the number of merchants, price, features and stability, we might take a developers holiday Cheesy

The first "intelligent" exchange I (Spencer Lievens) have seen - http://www.metalair.org/

Quote
About MetaLair
MetaLair are one of the very first UK Bitcoin, Litecoin and cryptocurrency startups.

We are looking for investment and donations to develop our double spending proof fully decentralised exchange mechanism able to facilitate secure exchanges between cryptocurrency blockchains and also fiat.

When Satoshi created Bitcoin he solved the Byzantine fault tolerance Problem, also known as the Byzantine Generals Problem; first formalised in 1975, it posits the near impossibility of achieving consensus on a decentralised network.

MetaLair is continuing where Satoshi left off using the mechanisms he developed to create a decentralised cryptocurrency exchange.

We would like to hear peoples thoughts on this exchange.

The order book on bittrex.com makes for horrible reading, we really need to get some interest around this coin, or some serious investors

I've personally e-mailed 12 potential merchants at the moment. Will do more later today Smiley Get more people to use it and we'll get more investors to divide the amount of SLG. Serious investors will come in eventually.

Price will go up soon, I've been adding more coins to my wallet... Currently a bit more than 80k. I let coins stake while waiting for price to go up. Then sell what I put in and enjoy using SLG at the merchants.
