So, .... I have some choices, and they look like:

1. 3 GPU, 1.4 MH/S, maybe lower wattage, and lower total cost. These R9 270 GPUs.
2. 2 GPU, 1.5 MH/S, (the one being offered by Mark at about 800 USD / 35,000 PHP)

And I don't necessarily have to get the ASRock BTC mobos that can do 6 cards too.

I've asked Mark a few times about his rigs, and he's told me a few times now that he's not ready to sell them.  I know you're more local to him, so if he's willing to sell to you and you can snag them, I would do that.  The R9 280X Toxic cards are legit, and the resale value should be higher than the 270s.  But in all honesty, the heat / noise reduction of the 270s would be worth it in the long run.

I'm going the route of the 270/270Xs from here on out.  I'll have to run more boards, but I really like the fact that while mining, these gigabyte cards are near silent.

Bejeebus... 24 MBs.  Someone down under is a baller.  What's the local slang for someone like that?

I figured I'd post here before I post elsewhere:

[WTS] GPUs - SOLD

WTS 3 x Sapphire reference 7950s.  Mined and lightly used for literally less than 3 months.  My mining partner bought them and then never ran them.  They sat forever in the corner of his house not being run due to the fact that his place had no AC and summers here get into the 110+ range.  I took them to my place and ran them for like a month before I gave them back when he wanted to use them to game.

They come in the original boxes with I believe all the cables and such.

I would like to sell the 3 together to save on shipping.  Would like to get $250 a card, including shipping, so $750 for the 3, shipped.  Will take TAG or BTC.

PM me if you're interested.

My partner is bringing them by tomorrow, I can take pictures if needed, but I assure you that they are in VERY good condition.

Edit- In case anyone is wondering why I would sell the extra hashpower, it's because my partner has agreed to house our newer 270X rigs in his place.  He lives in a small bungalow style guest-house and he has to house the rigs in his main living area, so he wants to sell these to get quieter 270s.  I can't house equipment at my place because I am on a reduced power cost program has a maximum KWH per month limit.  The cards are great cards, they just don't fit our operation plans at this time.

Well somebody in Sydney, Australia is planning on building quite a mining farm... Just went to my local store to get an Asrock extreme 4 board only to be told they haven't got any but have 24 on back order BUT they've been presold to one person!!

For another comparison, I know I already stated what I get earlier in the thread but here's a screenshot:

These are the Gigabyte R9 270 Windforce OC ones. I wanted to keep the project under $1000, but I didn't buy a hard drive or memory (had memory laying around and it's running BAMT from a USB stick). I'm not sure on the power usage, as I don't have a Killawatt, but from what I'm reading elsewhere, the highest I can find is max powerdraw is 180W each.

Here's a little mini album of the rig I built for it, I'm kind of proud of it but I didn't buy enough screws to make a spot for the PSU yet so I have to go back to Home Depot Sad:

Preliminary 270x results

Setup: ASRock 970 EX4, BAMT 1.2, Cgminer 3.7.2

GPU 0 - The PowerColor AXR9 I was using before
GPU 1 - VisionTek R9 270X (link)
GPU 2 - Sapphire DualX 270X (link)

Here's where I'm at after like 10 minutes of hashing. I went with the settings from my powercolor tests (1145/1500, 24000, i20, g20):

The temps are a little weird because the first 2 are sitting next to each other, but the sapphire is hanging upside down over the PSU (kinda just tossed it there), so it's taking in PSU heat. Didn't have time to put in a riser setup.

Looks promising so far, but I'll have to put them on risers to eliminate heat issues while tuning (gpu1 was about to die because of it as you can see by the trailing hashrate), and then see what can be relied upon. Definitely over 450 I'm sure, but I would like to see over 480 stable. Power usage will come after this, I'm betting it's not above 175w/ea.

I like the litecoin comparison chart, but I usually find it to be waaaay off, some results irrepeatable, details lacking, etc. I find better results in the forums.

24kilo, if you use windows, use the program I linked. Use a 4gb or larger stick to be safe, something fresh. It should burn without errors. If there are errors, it is likely the stick, slight possibility the downloaded file was corrupted on the way down. I would try another stick, then simply redownload.

I'm about to burn 2 more sticks right now, so I can test the 270x's which just showed up.

Litecoin mining comparison page shows no real difference between the Non-X and X cards, on all the R9s.  I was really tempted to buy the non-X version of the 270Xs, but the 3 fan gigabyte design is pretty slick.  Near silent, and stays cooler than a polar bear's toenails.

But considering the 2 fan gigabyte is only $179 on Amazon Prime, I might have to buy a few more cards in the next week or two.

Some days I feel like a complete computer idiot... I cannot even burn a copy of BAMT to a USB that works!!!

Frank... any power readings for a 3x270 rig... wondering if it runs cooler and more efficient than a 3x270X rig.

atm, I only have 7950 cards in use and 270x on order, so can't help you on that one.  Looks like only one model posted to the mining hardware comparison list but without wattage info.  Nice hashrate though.  Hmm.  I am going to have a look at the technical differences between a 270 and a 270x.  Wouldn't that be neat if there was no real difference for mining purposes?

We have Munchkin but I have not played yet.  Dutch Blitz, Rack-O (card games), Sequence (card +board), and Zombies!!! (board game) are currently our favorites but we have a closet nearly filled with various board games and card games.  I tried a pen&paper RPG once, but as it turned out all of my friends were a-holes as dungeon master so... probably wasn't as much fun as it could have been.  That Pathfinder Adventure game looks pretty cool.  90 minute game time (I assume for scenarios) isn't bad at all for a fun evening.

Yeah, supposedly it plays like pen & paper, with character sheets and whatnot, but the cards tell the story.  So no real need for a DM, which is what my circle of friends would suck at doing.  We can roll dice and bash on baddies all day, but we'd be horrible story tellers.

If you ever get a chance, and you haven't already, check out TableTop on Geek & Sundry's Youtube channel.  Will Weaton, from Star Trek / Stand by me, hosts a tabletop game with friends.  Different game every time, and every episode is worth a watch.  The wife and I watched them all via our Roku, and it sparked our desire to game more.  The dragon age dual episodes was one of my favorites.

I should have 2 x Sapphire VaporX 270x cards on the way plus stuff to assemble two more rigs.  I just need to populate them with cards which will be challenging.  I am thinking I'll try to get one filled with 270x and one with 280x.

I have two stray Sapphire DualX 7950 cards that don't have a home atm... they didn't play well with other 7950 cards.  Interestingly, this morning as I was shopping for the parts, my wife said she wants me to show her how to build a miner and set it up.   Shocked  So, I think I'll help her pick out a regular computer case, etc to put those two cards in.  (I expect my monthly board game quota will go up though.  LOL)  But how cool is that.

What do you play, Frank?

I've been really into card games lately... Fluxx, Munchkin, etc.  I've been debating really geeking out and getting the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game.  It sounds like a bunch of fun for someone like me who loves RPGs but never did pen & paper.

I actually recently just built a rig that's a trio of R9 270s (non x version). I was reading that the 270x hashrate is around 475 KH/s, and the 270 can get to 475 as well.  Currently, all three of mine are hashing at a consistent 470 KH/s each, so I'm getting the same hash power out of a cheaper card!. I got three gigabyte ones from Newegg for $180/each, and it seems most of the 270x's are going for $220+. Something to think about Wink

Thanks for the tip. I've been wanting to try a 270 out just for giggles. I got my 270x's at $200, so I was pleasantly surprised with the hashrate. 492 on one right now. 4 more to be tested tonight.

Will look into the 270's now haha.

Wow you got 730KH/s out of the ASUS card without tweaking any settings? That's impressive!

I spent forever trying to get mine to push 700 and I've tweaked a bunch.  It only ran at like 550-600 right out of the box. Do you know what settings it's currently running at to get that high?

Here is a screen-shot of my batch-file...

*snip*

A pair of ASUS R9280X-DC2-3GD5 running an identical 735Kh/s... 1.470Mh/s average over the past 24 hours.

Thanks man, I'll try that out.

I've had a few people ask me that, and unfortunately I have no on hand experience with it because I can't get ahold of one and refuse to pay the ripoff prices some places are charging for them right now. They're on my amazon hotlist though, so if I can get one I will try it out.

I am going to start with ASUS R9270X-DC2T-2GD5  or Sapphire R9270X-2GD5-VAPOR...  these are only 2GB cards... not sure if it worth spending an extra $30 for a 4GB version... Vesper has the scoop on 270X.

Yep. Vesper is probably our go to guy for all things 270x... Which leads me to my question.  I've had a bit of a hunt around and can't really find any useful info on the 4gb 270x.  No reports here: https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison In theory 4gb of GDDR5 memory should make it a killer budget miner.  BUT.  I read one obscure reference somewhere that the architecture of the card doesn't really allow one to use the extra 2gb and it is just a bit of a marketing gimmick.

Vesper, got any info on this card?  I'm guessing if it was a better bang for buck card you would be buying the 4gb versions not the 2gb versions??

So is there any consensus yet on which is the best/most efficient 270x card?  Got my electricity bill today so I now know how much change I have to spend on cards..  Grin

PS: 24kilo. you have a PM.

John,

Got PM... I am figuring nearly $30 per day... so will be pleasantly surprised if it comes in at $20.

I am hoping to build a 3x270X miner in the next fortnight... then I am done... that puts me at 10.5Mh/s  in dedicated miners plus another 2Mh/s in PC's... I am going to spend time learning Linux and all that good stuff.

EDIT - I completely passed on Coinye... probably missed a chance to make a quick BTC or two... but so be it.
