They are trading within there own wallets, withdraw / deposit offline.

Still scratching my head trying to understand how they supposedly killed cryptocurrency with this "unprecedented" action. In some peoples minds mass adoption will kill the underground market for PnD's , drugs, everything that "bitcoin" stands for unfortunately.
Bitcoin has a stigma in the world, and VeriCoin is the first, and only currency to take a stand and say. We are going to make the technology work for our community, we will not work for it.

Here's the step-by-step on how to do the update.
1. Do the backup of the wallet.dat and vericoin.conf (if you have this file)
2. Delete all files in folder leaving only the two files mention above.
3. Download the bootstrap file from: http://vericoin.info/downloads/bootstrap.dat and put it together in the folder with the other 2 files.
4. Download the wallet from http://vericoin.info
5. Install the wallet
6. Run the wallet and wait for synchronization
-- If you don't have the vericoin.conf file you can make one using this:

server=0
listen=1
checklevel=2
txindex=1
staking=1
connect=supernode.vericoin.info
connect=supernode2.vericoin.info
connect=supernode3.vericoin.info

No matter if you're a supporter or a fudder, you can easily see from the 100 pages posted since yesterday that Vericoin made history and took the lead of altcurrency.
According to the fudders, the precedent set by Vericoin is going to hurt crypto as a whole. Nothing short from amazing for a 2 months old cryptocurrency which is led by strong hand developers for the benefit of their community and the general public, clearly against the interest of scammers and hackers.

I was having the same issue, I imagine this is the work the developers are doing today to continue to work tirelessly to resolve this issue for the community.
Try to download it with the bootstrap file and be patient, took me like 10 minutes before it looked like it was moving, so save wallet file and redownload, make sure boostrap file is clicked.
I haven't had that issue since the bootstrap DL

Got my VRC wallet updated to V1.3.2 and staking again.
I just let it overwrite the former one and I'm fine. Don't understand why it is advised to delete everything except the wallet.dat.

its just cleaner to delete everything and re download the blockchain when there is a hard fork of this magnitude. otherwise you could just have extra files relating to the old chain fork taking up space on your HDD.
keys to your coins are in wallet.dat if you delete that file you delete your access to your coins.
if what you did works and you aren't too worried about files taking up space on your HDD then its all good.

I actually just looked to buy more, but it seems actually the price has gone up - seems like most people share my opinion that it's actually a good thing the devs stepped in.

VRC will be just fine, use it everywhere BTC is accepted...
Why would I want to use VRC (with transactions that can be rolled back) when I can use BTC (with transactions that are final)? Maybe, as you say, it is safer to hold VRC (as long as it is on a big exchange) over BTC, but it will be worth nothing if you can't spend it because nobody wants to accept it.
