he who has the gold makes the rules
You guys probably be surprised how some multi-million (if not billion) international finance companies use outdated software which allows any schlub with a google search and copy paste to send and execute malicious code. Even if fixes were available, they literally didn't update their software for whatever reason. (or because, I kid you not, they did not like the new version). In some cases direct execution and grabbing of any data could be done through a spoofed email to pretty much anyone in the staff...

It's like looking at a tank from the outside and realizing that inside everything is taped together with duct tape.

Counterparty has plenty of room to prove itself... And as long as the Bitcoin blockchain has stability and integrity, XCP will also, and that's a mighty cow to tip.

+1

btw i know the exact scenarios you are talking about.  usually it was b/c the company didn't want to pay support fees, or had software update testing requirements in place from the time when they were building their own s/w, or there was some customize stuff they needed to do in version X and it would break in version Y unless a $1M consulting contract was engaged, or the staff was just lazy and would come up with any excuse to the business to make them afraid to change anything Wink

A very good analyst I follow and who is very frequently right :

It has been days or weeks since XCP is around 0.005, whereas BTC and other pairs were going down. There is no XCP left to sell on markets.
Everything has been functional for months, counterwallet is becoming friendly, new assets are coming, and perhaps a big one.
XCP @0.011 BTC becomes a sensible target in a short term.

true especially if BTC will be worth $250 shortly

I can't understand this kind of forum software. That looks pretty shit and navigation is difficult. Better for mobile use or what is reason for use this software? I have seen this same software in few sites and allways layout make me close that page before i feel bad.

oh stfu and put a sock in it

f--king whiners go find something else to go wail about

most of us can take the time of day to learn to read letters on a screen and begin to understand something new, so go drink some coffee and learn the UI.

@devs, have you thought much about ways to improve the usage of the DEX? In my view it is such a good idea but has barely gotten any traction. When we look at coinmarketcap and see that $7 worth of XCP traded on the DEX over the past 24 hours vs. ~$6K on Bter I just wonder where we go from here.

does it count the volume from venn, the automatic escrow, maybe people have just moved to that .

I don't know, and that's a good point. Is there some way of checking what this volume might be?

[...]

You can find the volumes being processed by the vennding machine through blockchain and blockscan:

In regards to the DEX, it seems to be best for large transactions. This thread suggests that centralized exchanges place larger orders on the DEX when placed in their own order books: https://forums.counterparty.co/index.php/topic,661.0.html

I especially like Counterparty for betting, especially with large amounts. There is no chance in hell I would trust a centralized betting site with 1+ BTC. Betting that I can trust some usually anonymous server operator is not something I would like to gamble with. Not only do they charge ridiculous fees, but they could also skip town with your cash any time.

Development to improve the usability of the DEx is very much ongoing. You can post bugs and usability issues or give opinions on the priority of various things on GitHub: https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterwallet/issues/

Counterparty is an open source project. It's vital that the community contributes and bug reporting is a great way to get started.

This. Making the DEx experience faster, smoother and more reliable is one of our highest priorities. If you see a way of making it better (especially if that way is straightforward), let us know!

Bitcoin is new, makes sense to hodl.

Regardless, I think my main point is still valid. I love the idea of the DEX but to be honest the adoption thus far has been disappointing. Is there some way to incentivize people to use the DEX vs. an exchange? I know bter has a points system that gives you discounted fees etc. Maybe something like that could be incorporated in the DEX? Discounted fees aren’t an issue in this case but maybe DEX points can be used for something else? Maybe to offset the fees required to create assets?

I used dex to sell  few grands if x last months and it wasn't so bad actually. I also sold some on poloniex around the same time and guess what I liked dex better because it had occurred to me 2 times that after sending in my XCP, it did not get credited. I had to opened  tickets and took like a two day to resolve.

So my take is trading small amount is fine with dex. For larger amount dex, give me a piece of mind.

If I had a few grand of btc and would want to sell it for USD on the rally to bubble. I would be terrified of using bitstamp/btc-e . I rather hold on my coins and ride the burst. Well that's just analogy.

In short, dex wins on big volume trading

Counterparty is a platform for finance and betting. Every action is a Bitcoin transaction with embedded metadata which the Counterparty protocol interprets. All history is saved in the Bitcoin blockchain, and this enables an ecosystem of coins, assets, bets, and games.

Thanks! This was my impression after first reading, but it's good to see it confirmed.

Does Counterparty solve the trust problem for betting and gaming (the fear that the operator may take the money and go)?

Is it suitable in-principle for realtime gaming e.g. online poker?

It seems to solve the gaming security problem. And I am with you guys on the understanding of Counterparty. These guys seem to have the bitcoin platform figured out.

i would love to translate, i just want to understand the process first before i put some time into it.
Since it's a volunteer effort, I would imagine having someone check your translation is a lot easier to
get a couple volunteers for than to do the translation in the first place. Does the translation site require
special access to review the translation?

my question exactly

i was wondering about how does the translation of counterwallet is run.

if you translate some of it, who reviews it? i believe that as gifted as xnova pp and the bunch are, they cant go through every last word in chinese and get what people are saying.

i want to translate but i dont want my work thrown away if no one can authorize it.

xnova, and jahpowerbit i see you are listed as the operators of the translation project. can you shed some lite?

Yes they are. You can make account also and join to translate.
