if i downloaded the blockchain for the first time, do i need to re-index stillllll

No, just make sure the bitcoin.conf is set to:

rpcuser=rpc
rpcpassword=rpcpw1234
server=1
daemon=1
txindex=1

Do this right after you install bitcoin-qt

If you already downloaded some blocks, then do a reindex

How does XCP improve on Bitshares (Mastercoin to a lesser degree)? As those are similar concepts. What advantages does XCP have? What are core differences?

Main feature is XCP has features working right now, and everyone else is mostly just talk. I will acknowledge when they release features, but so far MSC only has simple send in 6 months, whereas XCP has its core already developed in less than 1. XCP will also have a client released soon.

Does Counterparty use price feeds or is price discovery solely marked based (like with Bitshares)?

The 'broadcast' function is used to publish price feeds.

I'm thinking XCP will be one of the most illiquid currencies ever after the burn ends.

Your average person who burnt for XCP has no clue how to move the XCP around.  This means the majority of XCP will be locked in place because it takes a lot of effort to install everything and move XCP from one address to another.

The actual amount of XCP moving around and circulating after the burn will be a small fraction of all the XCP in exsistence.

jep

for almost forever

or

12-15 days until the client starts Cheesy

Stop spreading fud. Its easy moving XCP around. Its a simple command. There is also a client bounty being paid on the 6th I believe, and brite_enclave (I believe this is the correct username) is working on the client.

C:\Python32\python.exe run.py send --from=1xxxx --quantity=xxx --asset=XCP --to=1xxx

The only thing is that you have to reindexing your blockchain one time, and build the XCP database. Reindexing is what takes the most time.

It's way too hard for a layman like me to burn btc for XCP.

Do I replace the bitcoin.conf file with the one created with the counterparty info and then re-index the blockchain with only the counterparty.conf file?

Is there a new dependency? If so, where do I find it?

C:\counterpartyd>python counterpartyd.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "counterpartyd.py", line 11, in
    import apsw
ImportError: No module named 'apsw'

New database library for sqlite that will address some performance, etc issues we were having hopefully. I have to run out now but will be able to add support for it to the build system tomorrow. Until then folks may want to hold off from grabbing the newest commit.
Ubuntu 13.10

Python 2.7.5+

Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./counterpartyd.py", line 11, in
    import apsw
ImportError: No module named 'apsw'

same error with latest git clone  Huh

edit:
apsw now ok, but now
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./counterpartyd.py", line 13, in
    import appdirs
ImportError: No module named 'appdirs'

Python 3 is installed...

How are you running counterpartyd? If you are using the build system, do not run it directly. Instead just type "counterpartyd" (no dot, no slash, etc). Please follow the building from source instructions regarding this if any questions: http://counterpartyd-build.readthedocs.org/en/latest/BuildingFromSource.html#running-from-source

If that's not it, please checkout the newest version of counterpartyd_build and rerun "sudo python3 setup.py" (as in the documentation). I just updated an ubuntu 13.10 box from an older version of counterpartyd and it worked fine.

Anyone want to bet 10 XCP on the Super Bowl? I'll take the Seahawks to win at even money and set up/manage a feed if someone wants to test out the bet feature.

I'm game (though not from US, nor really get how the American Football works, except that bunch of dudes have to slam one into another, until someone manages to score a ball Smiley ), as this can serve as a good promotion for XCP.

halfcab123. Dude, whats with the gigantic tard font?

You misunderstood what I asked. Feel free to NOT answer this in big bold font or not at all, thanks.

Anyone who actually can answer my question, I would appreciate it. Did someone not have to generate that address? Doesn't bitcoin have protection from sending funds to an account that doesn't exist? Or can I just make up an account string, send funds to it and bam, it's on the blockchain?

Ha, I like how you rephrased your question to pair up exactly 1:1 with my answer, and say I misunderstood. k.  Roll Eyes

I wonder if it possible to know the coins distribution, so the whale sale leading to crash (aka what happened to MSC, and apparently NXT) can be detected (and ignored)?

Or due 1 BTC limit, this won't be possible?

You can only know the coins distribution by address. But you would not know if these addresses are owned by the same or different individuals. Similar concept as with all other coins.

As of this posting there are 1893 unique addresses. For a breakdown of the list of addresses and balances see http://blockscan.com/balance.aspx

Sounds interesting... Since this is sort of the first "public" feed/bet perhaps you can put up a point to point instruction of what someone would need to subscribe to your feed/bet

Cheers

If anyone needs any help constructing a feed or bets, let me know.

Note that betting on one's own feed leads to a conflict of interest.

Selling 1125 XCP for 1btc

More than you get by burning.

Check my rep thread

 Sad

There's always a silver lining to every cloud. You can see this as distribution away from centralised holders.

We can see that daily burned BTC has decreased a lot (around 26 BTC per day), and Patel has begun selling his XCP cheaper than burning. It means the demands decrease and supply has begun to kick in. Therefore, apparently the price XCP will not increase until there're major updates: such as new clients or the first serious issuance or some bets.

I've redirect counterparty-explorer.com to blockscan.com, because currently I am too busy to maintain the counterparty-explorer.com. Moreover, blockscan has way more features. Smiley

It seems something wrong with the burning in http://www.counterparty-explorer.com/. The XCP creation suddently jumped from 2091000 to 2163457 while the BTC burned only from 1559 to 1661. Whether it is caused by some "not confirmed"?
Yes, I restarted the server and now the value is correct.
