Agreed

The spikes come from the high difficulty of the the work packages, but adding an option for once a day devfee mining option I will take into consideration

Obagam these spikes are because each 2 hours we have dev fee switching. I proposed solution. Option checkbox to mine
the whole devfee at the start for 24 hours. This way blissz will take his part and we will have stable hashing on a good pool.
I already setup the best of my miner and they are running without stop. I just forgot them for days.....

this seems like it would work

hard mod information (depricated)

UPDATE 16/11/2017: I successfully modded the firmware which will add unlocked voltage and fan control, so I advice NOT to hardware mod and see how far you can go with the firmware mod. If you want to undervolt more I advice the hard mod.

https://preview.ibb.co/jmOdDG/20171031_171454.jpg

Hardmod info

The antminer D3
As an owner of the October batch of the antminer D3 I have good news. I now run my antminer D3 stable @ 15Gh/s with just 750 watts.  Cool
I decided to go for a mod, because I couldn't run the fans at full speed because of the noise. Therefore I could only run 13 Mh/s @ 850 watts before the mod, which is now not very profitable. Cry

The mod:
To get there I tried to reverse engineer the power circuit of the antminer D3 mining boards. Unfortunately there is some chip which I still don't know the specs from (labeled ADP BDY+), but I found out it's controlling the PWM of the mosfets.
So I tried changing the resistors around it and found out that changing the resistor R80 controls the voltage. Woop Woop Grin
So if you want to do the mod I advice to replace R80 by a 25k ohm potentiometer. The voltage can be measured over C948

Improvement:
without the mod the total voltage supplied to the asic chips is fixed @ 8.15v on the October batch. That means 1300 watts for 19Gh/s
After the mod the voltage is fully adjustable by using the potentiometer. It also allows to increase the voltage for overclocking if you want to do so.
But overclocking is not my goal, I wanted a silent miner: Therefore I now run my boards @ 7.1v @ 430 Mhz stable. That means 750 Watts for 15Gh/s
That is 50 instead of 68 watt per Gh/s  Cool

Photos
The mod is quite easy if you have some proper soldering skills, but it's tricky if you don't have the proper tools / not have a steady hand...

ps. I will make new higher res zoomed pics soon.

Other possible mods:

Fan mod: (only when undervolting)
as I don't like that noise at all I also did some fan mods. I added a voltage regulator on one of the fans to decrease the noise during startup. cgminer won't allow you to go bellow 5000rpm othwerwise the miner fails to start.
Furthermore I replaced the second fan with a 2000rpm silent fan. To make this work you have to use the yellow wire (fan rpm) from the first fan as wire for the 2nd fan. Otherwise it detects a too low fan speed on the second fan.
I can say that running both fans @ 2000 rpm is acceptable to run it in a living room now.

Power supply mod: (only when undervolting)
By default the power supply runs @ 12.2v. I used the potentiometer inside to make it run @ 12.05v. This saves a few watts of power as well. Furthermore I added a regulator on the fan, to run it at 5v as this  small fans makes an annoying high frequency noise when running at full speed.

Support
I hope this information does inspire you and help you improve the efficiency on the antminer D3. I hope to improve the mod: as I want to look into a software mod to enable changing the voltage from software. This would really open up the possibilities for all the users.
To get there I still look for a copy of the November miner firmware as bitmain is not supplying this yet. If one can login using ssh and make a full copy of the all the files that would be really welcome.

Hi Blissz, You could show a detail of the connection of the fans, thanks.

It was originally done at the start, it was changed because everyone hated it and wanted the 2hr thing instead.

I meant devfee for the whole day  ! You got me wrong.
My idea is start miner then it starts devfee pool for 30 minutes, then switches to my pools for 23 hours and 30 minutes.
Even starting the whole devfee after 2 hours is okay too. Like D3 starts working 2 hours then mine 30 minutes for devfee then
no interruptions in the next 23 hours and 30 minutes.....
My pools are perfectly fine. No interruptions at all. I dig on my own pool Smiley

I keep getting connection problems on my main pool. This has happened on several pools since I changed to Blissz. Does this have something to dev mining? It'll be fine the first day or so and then I"ll get random connection errors or rejected shares showing on the pool with about 50% of hash rate missing.

I keep getting issues where after a day or so it keeps switching from my main pool to back up pool throughout the day. I've tested this and it happens on every pool Does this have anything to do with dev mining? Does anyone else have this problem? If dev mining is affecting actual pool earnings then 1,5% is BS and I'm ready to fall back to my default firmware.

Here is a screen shot from granatgas and backup pool zpool

This has been happening to me on several pools since updating to this firmware. Is this the same problem another user was having with Antpool? Again, does this have anythign to do with auto dev mining???

I don´t think it´s the dev mining that cause this spikes.
try to look to your miner, when the pools go to dead and come back.
I stop using Zpool a while ago, because it´s go to much time down and Granatgas the same.
When you look correct the Zpool is off a few times in 2 hours. and the graph in granat, don´t forget how the pools show you your hashrate.
They count every share, but they calculate your hashrate for the last 15/30 min depend the pool, when your diff is to high it can be minutes until you submit a share.
expl. your miner make 10GH  you submit 10 shares in 15min then you see 10GH, but when only submit 9 you see 9GH, 11shares is 11GH so the graph go up and down.

Before Christmas you announced, that you where working on a v2.0 BETA. When will it come for us to try?

Best regards.
It was made available before Christmas:

2nd chain is having 260 HW errors in 90 minutes
I have 77 HW for 20 minutes right now, with 22.5gh/s hashrate (calculated by pool).
So HW is really nothing important, I think.
(sourcecode say, HW is appear if calculated HASH have dufficult bigger that ASIC can calculate, so ASIC think this is error.. but really we can comment this check and send all hashes to pool, so pool himself will check is hash OK or reject it. I try this trick with qubit algo on D3, and really some hash was accepted by pool, and some rejected, but without comment this check all hashes was HW errored).

iam running with voltage 13 frequency 525
i have 2 d3 and they are not running full 24 hours
i checked auto reboot on low hashrate and high failures
2nd chain is having 260 HW errors in 90 minutes
is it ok or should i change something?
how to run d3's without a reboot for several days

I'm testing out the new beta version of the firmware, and after a day of futzing around with it and letting a couple units run overnight, I noticed something.
Awesome Miner reports a few thousand errors on the primary page (Because it logs the errors) for the units that were auto-tuned and stabilized, but the IP access page shows zero HW errors. While I watched, it had a few, and once it reached about a dozen - boom, it wiped them and they showed 0 again.
Is this a new feature, or something accidental? Knowing how many HW errors I'm getting is somewhat key to knowing if I've found the sweet spot or not for freq/voltage...

Also, there's an abnormal amount of errored out chips (X) that don't go away when the unit finishes auto-tuning, not without a reboot - and then it takes another 10~20 minutes to finish auto-tuning, which results in more X chips, to the point that I basically just let the auto-tune do its work, then go back in and manually set the chips to the frequencies that worked, and watch if it has errors or not at that point.
In essence, the auto tunes present functionality just saves me the elbow work of manually changing each chip within the frequency range (a process that honestly can take hours per unit).
But it would be nice if I could set a range of what I'm aiming for (x range of GH/s, within X range of temp) and it auto tunes both the freq and the voltage to accomplish it, on the fly.
Or even "benchmark for best settings" options and it auto tunes in depth, finds the best results at the lowest energy consumption and saves those so that even on a reboot it doesn't have to re-auto tune back to that.

hi,
i just plugged my D3 back in after firmware update.
which pool gives the best rewards at the moment?
I have it on zpool and payouts in dash. Is that OK?

Thanks

go to granatgaspool or what i am using right now.. starpool.biz

A bit quiet from my side, but I have been busy on the background and I have some good news for you guys:

I managed to make the v2.0x beta a lot more stable. So hopefully I am able to have a stable 2.0x version soon. From there more features will be added for the D3.

Furthermore I bought a L3+ (mainly from the dev fee, so thank you all!) and I got some good news on that:
I was able to unlock the voltage on the L3+! Cool
As the L3+ got some headroom for overclocking a bit of overvolting can be useful for the first months. After that you probably want to undervolt it to save power as more L3's will come online. (my L3+ mines 500Mh/s @ ~680 watts from the wall now)
Please don't ask for a L3 test version yet, as it's not even close to Beta stage yet and it seems I bricked some of the chains during testing which I have to fix first.
But this is definitely a breakthrough for the L3, so there will be a first L3  beta version available within two weeks I guess.

Brilliant! Thank you!!

Hi,

i have just tested your firmware. (v2.04 beta :: 22/12 :: test version)
On one D3 its running unbelievable good!
910W 18.500 MH/S

On the other D3 there was a lot of HWs and suddenly the 3rd chain is disappeared!?
(Voltage 3, Auto adjust)

Could you please help me? Im afraid that the d3 is dead...

Thanks and best regards

My 2nd chains is gone as well ..but before that there is a problem and a lot of HW as well ....sad

It can be that the low voltage is not working for one of the chains. Increase the voltage or flash back the stable Blissz version on that D3 from the topic start

Dear Blissz,
I try few still not working. i did create a backup before change to ur firm ware .
I try to back up and the firm ware still showing with your name . My ant miner still under warranty . Mind to help me to backup or provided me the software that able back to original state ? I would send back to Antminer for claim.

Appreciate !

did u read anything in this thread?
clear your browser cache and u have the original look with the backup
