My ambivalent temperature is 22 C. Here is the actual temperature (F, which is about 42 C):

What's an "ambivalent temperature"?

I think he meant ambient temperature. You know, "room temperature".
Ambivalent temperature is the temperature at which point you don't care what the temperature is.

Good one, we have a lot of such temperatures around here. It was 80F/26.7 C today, Nov 4.
Just imagine what is happening in July-Aug.

well I just had my first issue with my S3+ antminer, it was running solid for about 3 days and then all of a sudden I lost hashing power, one of the boards just completely shutdown, I did a reboot and that didn't solve it, then I reset the power supply and both are working again.

The mining pool I was on had an ORPHAN block just before this happened too, kinda wierd.

Did people flash the latest 1024 firmware?

Did it help anything but the "better firefox and chrome" support? - ie. make the miner run the updated cgminer properly..?

I flashed 3 of my S3+ Miners and they have been more steady in terms of Hashrate for the past 2 days.  Less HW errors and more consistent.  I only flashed my 3 S3+ Miners that were having issues with dramatic hashrate fluctuations.  The rest I'm leaving as is since I haven't had any issues with them.  I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

My miner came with the august 26th firmware and I don't have any issues with it, bitmain said the latest is not necessarry if its working well for you.

many people who bought S3's (me included) are afraid to update anyway due to risk of bricking the unit.

it seems that you got a bad heat sensor on your hashing PCB. Just send me your order info, including the address, phone number, etc. i will make records and arrange RMA for u.

I am working this out the Bitmaintech support. They have been pretty helpful. I went to the store and brought an infrared thermometer and opened up a machine at their request. I tried disabling if temperature is above 80 C but it is NOT HASHING at all. I've tested this with 2 different working PSUs and still nothing. I think thermometer and board is defective.

It looks like the thermometer is defective. Here is what I get in my dashboard as well:

Bitmain, is it possible to run your own pwm 4 pin fan controller in addition to the one thats built into the S3 itself so I can have better control of the speed? we have limited choices in quieter 38MM thick frame fans so this is the only other solution I can think of.

Something like this: http://www.zalman.com/global/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=375

If you have the temperature issues, please take a screen shot of the Mining Status page and e-mail it to [email protected] or call +1-844-248-6246 option 2 to speak with one of the tech support persons.

Please be ready to have your Bitmaintech.com order confirmation page and the screen shots of the Miner Status page!

I have 2 Antminer S3 that has the same temperature problem. Does anyone know anything about that as well?

What if my Batch 11 S3+ fans are louder then the previous batches I ordered?  Identical setups as my previous batches but it sounds like I have Avalon Miners running.

I'm one of the unfortunate ones as well, the S3+ have LOUD fans, someone on another thread suggested I get this, the fan frames have to be 38MM thick to work with the fan screws that came with it. This is the only one available that is 38MM thick with a quiet mode switch, it will work for the exaust fan, but might block the lan port on the front where the intake is (maybe Bitmain can fix this on a future batch revision), but if your S3 miner is on wireless then it will work fine for both.

we have limited choices on 38MM frame size quiet fans, not many are available, most of them are 25MM

so what do i do if i've done both things and i just get the run around about switching around plugs and control boards? which by the way i mentioned i had already done to no conclusive results. should i just send you guys the whole damn thing? obviously i'm not the only one here with the issue so some further diagnostic help would be appreciated. 2 dissatisfied customers with one stone type stuff

I'm running at stock settings, 225 frequency, avg hashrate is staying right at 453 GH/s like it should Smiley

I can't overclock, cause my PSU has 2 x 6 pin per PCI-e cable, I read its recommeded to have dedicated cables (1 plug per cable) so they don't overheat when overclocking

Thanks for the info.
Nonsense! You can overclock with just 2 PCI-e connections. I have an S1 to S3 upgrade that I am running off 2 PCI-e connectors (one for each blade) and have it overclocked to freq 268.5 giving ~540GH/s.

Also, look at the thread in my signature where I overclocked an S3 (not an S3+ !) to freq 262 giving ~519GH/s with a single PCI-e connector for each blade.

Generally, so long as your PSU has the amperage in each line that the PCI-e connector feeds off, then you can use just one connector AND overclock.

No Thank you I don't want my cables to burn up, thier is a reason that S3 miners have 4 x 6 pin PCI-E its safer to use all 4 (1 cable per plug) for overclocking.
It is the proverbial taking a horse to the well but not being able to force it to drink!
Hey, its your real money that you put down for the S3 and PSU, and it is your choice whether to overclock or not. But more to the point, if your PSU PCI-e cables are not fully populated or the lines do not have adequate power, then you will not be able to OC with it.

The 4 plugs on an S3 are merely there because most off the shelf PSU's were not designed for powering a bitcoin rig but a computer. The total power that can be carried in 2 fully populated to standards 6 pin PCI-e sockets is:
(2 * (7.5 * 3)) * 12 = 540 watts => aka 2 connectors, 3 power lines carrying 7.5 Amps each @ 12 V.
That is more than enough to power the entire rig overclocked, let alone a single blade. But because of the heat management limitations of th S3, you'll never be able to use the full power in a single fully populated 6 pin PCI-e socket even when overclocked! I've tried all manner of permutations that I can concieve, even with the latest firmware where you can set the chip voltage and have not been able to draw more than 430 watts for the entire rig.

Hello everyone!
Could some help a man around abit? I got a S3(+) and im using the stock settings and also try with Oc little bit and nothing seem to work around.. My psu unit's are Dell12v 700w each.. So I connected 3 cap's on to the connection's to smoother the voltage out also thicker wires. But one of the S3 show's weird numbers on one of the fan's. Fan1 normal rpm but the fan2 is from 4200rpm to 6000rpm sometimes.. The temp mostly never go up more then around 40...isch
I try with flash new firmware and nothing seem to work.. I also disconnected the fan to see if there was some wrong with the fan but the S3 show's anyway high rpm :O wtf...
