It can be hard to find that little reset button with a paperclip.  You have to make sure you found it - you'll hear a subtle, little "click" when you find it and press on it.  You sure you found it?

It's not always behind the hole to.  Like when you say it can be hard to find he might need to use paper clip and go in a circle within hole trying to find it.   Once he does find it though I would also ask him to make sure he's holding long enough.  Some just press it and think it resets you have to hold longer then a instant push to do the reset I think hes going for.

Also don't know his firmware but one had a issue where you could not reset... so hope hes not on that firmware.

yeah yeah don't worry done it plenty of time.... I think the board is corrupted...

The board could have a problem, I once had one that messed up during a update and electricity was lossed. I bought a new S3+ IO board programed with firmware since mine was bad flash.  If you have a bad flash or something it can be done with serial to usb cable I believe.

And there really was one firmware I believe reset button did not work so if you had that firmware it could be a issue there.  Been a while since I messed with S3's.

Ok all, I need help.
I had a S3 mining that suddently stopped mining and started beeping.
So I restarted it, and it doesnt what to kinda start anymore...

Green light stays on, red light keeps flashing and the red inside the miner is on... but the red light never stop flashing and I cannot connect to it... even the reset button doesnt do anything...

I even unplugged it and once powered it still does the same thing, red flashing and nothing....

any hint here ?!?!?

Thx alot !

Can't log in with the web interface?  Reset to factory default, plug into router and try to log in to http://192.168.1.99?

I did so, the reset button doesn't do anything... the red light keeps flashing while I press on reset....

Did you make sure your holding it long enough? Here is instructions on reset - https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202648429-Reset-Prochedure  (*Note you don't want to lose power during reset)

Did you do any firmware upgrades or anything recently?

500W is too small for an S3, I'm surprised you haven't melted it down yet.  A good rule of thumb is to not exceed 80% of the rated power of the psu.

It didn't even seem to get warm.  Wait a minute, I was only running one s3 on that 500 W (EVGA 100-W1-0500-KR) power supply.  God, I'm such an idiot!  Better edit that post  :-/

EDIT: The only reason I posted here is that I don't have power for those s3's and folks here sounded like they did.  I actually had one of those "used" 1 kW HP server power server supply which ran both.  The 500W just ran one s3+.  I have an extra 750 W EVGA 750 G2 - do you know if that'll run both?  Prolly not...

Anyway, if this is the wrong thread, maybe sysop will move it to the right place?

Thanks, and apologies for the confusion.

An S3 uses only like 340Watts so 500W PSU should be sufficient. However it probably only has 2 PCIe connectors.

I am assuming that the heartburn people have with the OP's statement is that the post appears to imply that two S3+ are being powered by one 500W PSU.

I've got a couple of S3+ units and a 500W power supply (been running them both for a month or so) that I'm selling, if anyone's interested.

Yeah I missed that part, yeah no way you can run two of them.

And I could be wrong re-reading it he may mean multiple units and power supply's just read it as opposite way.    So guess he will update us but I think his main goal was to sell.... so was kinda wrong thread for that anyways.

Unless it is under clocked I would be afraid to buy it personally.   I wonder if he is running through 4 or 2 PCIEe to.     I am surprised it has not had problems either and run under that unless psu is wrong or under clocked.

But I would be interested to hear more of the story.

EDIT:  Sorry!  Brain-dead here.  The 500W PS ran only one s3+.   Sad

Just found it and applied myself moments before - thanks anyway for replay.
------------------------------
Next question - I need to slow down my batch of S3/S3+ during work hours.
I am doing it now manually by changing Frequency.
Can this be done with crontab? Can you give me sample of crontab for that?

It's no longer being worked on but should still work on M's ant monitor - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ms-miner-antsp-monitor-v52-alertsautomassscheduled-rebootmobile-miner-596178 .  It was pretty popular at one point, but has lost some popularity with no longer being worked on.

It should allow scheduling pretty easily.  You might be able to do it with crontab aswell.

I run my S3+ at 250 also, it stays solid at 500GH.  Runs really well with kano's updates software package, too.  I will be hosting some gear pretty soon, and when I do I'll bring the S3+ back out because you can just set it and forget it.
Can you elaborate on "kano's updates software package"? Is it for S3+ only or S3 as well?
How to install/apply it on S3/S3+?

Kanos firmware update basically makes the antminers run smoother and quicker. They don't affect the hashrate but the giu loads quicker, you have a couple of extra options within the menus etc.

The S3 update can be found here:-

https://bitbucket.org/TheKano/cgminer-binaries/src/f5884bfece7a8dfd48550cb172272212459be51c/AntS3/?at=master

Ive got it running on both my S3+'s with no problems at all.
