Now, I think the controller is bricked. All the LEDs on the front are now off. The blue and green lights inside the controller are solid ( ie: not blinking). I can't see it in my browser anymore. I can't reset it to default with the reset button.

So after 7 weeks and a few days of perfect functionality, my S7 is not working after an overnight internet outage of about 3 hrs.
( Note: there was an internet outage of about 30 mins a month ago. It didn't affect my S7 then. So, it seems if there's a longer internet outage, it messes up the controller or its memory.)

was it on 9/15 system or updated to 10/23 system? Manual or automatic fan?
i have a feeling that internet loss bug affects both, not just 9/15.

It was on 10/23 firmware and automatic fan.

Thanks for the info.  So, my going manual now should do it.  Sorry to hear about your rig and the delays you will have to contend with.  I hope it gets worked out for you soon.

I dont understand why they are changing it so much ? Are they keeping the good chips for them selves and then just selling off all the poorly binned chips to us ?

Why not just have made it a 4TH machine from the start and not have it so highly strung. Users can OC just like before.

I doubt that very seriously.  It's possible [after assembly] they keep rigs that meet certain parameters.  If I owned BITMAIN, I would keep rigs that met certain parameters as well.  Wouldn't you?  Does this mean all the rest are trash?  No...

I prefer the batches with more strings that results in better power efficiency rather than the 4.0 TH rig with fewer strings and less power efficiency.  I know it says batch 6 is the same .25 watts per GH/s.  However, I have to see it to believe it.

I would also like to know if you made the mistake of setting the fans to auto.

Good question.  I have my B3 fans set to 60% and I've lost internet twice on my miner.  Once for over 4 hours during the day when my powerline decided to crap out.  Each time I simply powered down the miner, waited 5-10 seconds and powered it back up without issues.

you did not JUST lost the internet, you lost both power and internet.
The infamous internet bug strikes only when power is ON, but internet is OFF.

Uh, if this is directed at me, I did just lose internet.  I guess it's misleading with powerline, but powerline in this context is the networking adapter I use to connect my miners from the basement to my router in my kitchen.  Sometimes it just loses network connectivity and I have to unplug/replug it back in to get it to re-sync.

I've decided not to take any chances.  I've put most of mine on 60% fan speed.  I put 3 of them on 70% because their temperature was a bit warmer than the others when set to 60%.  I would recommend everyone else do the same.  It's better to be safe than sorry.  Especially, once the 90 day warranty passes.

what if they are in a very cold room (for example 10C or less during winter), would then excessive cooling (by setting fixed %) be detrimental?
anybody had an experience?

As long as you aren't constantly losing internet or something else is causing the board to go from hot to cold extremes, you should be fine.  However, you should set the fan % low enough to where you are saving a couple watts, extending the fan life, and keeping the noise levels down.  No sense setting it at 100% if 40% will give you the same temperature range.

Which batch is better I cant decide if more chips is better, or less chips but at a higher clock speed and also if batch 7 can be overclocked. Huh

lower clock speed if definitely better because you have a chance of overclocking if you want to risk it.
In that sense it is much more likely that B5 could be overclocked from 600 to up to 625 than B7 from 625 upwards.
people will know for sure re batch 5 by this Fri-St, re B4-today or tomorrow.

My Internet went down before i woke up this AM.

My S5s came back online when the internet came back up...but my S7 (batch 1) didn't. I can still see it when i check it thru my LAN. All the ASICs are there and have all 0's but there is no hashing. The fans are running too.

I rebooted. No change. I switched PSUs - still no change. I did a few reboots- no change. Then i reset it to factory settings- still no change. Finally, i called Bitmain in Denver. The tech guy used chrome remote desktop to look at my kernel log , miner status etc. Then he shh'd into my rig. He couldn't find a problem either.

So I will be contacting Bitmain to see what can be done.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I have this issue, go into Network>Diagnostic and then ping something. Go back after a minute and check if it is hashing.

Tried that already. The ping was successful but still no hashing.

Someone analyzed my kernel log today and replied with this:

"this looks like memory problem with your beagle bone black
change it with another BBB or find S5 BBB and reflash it for S7"

Bitmain said"

"i would suggest you to obtain micro SD card. and to mount s7 firmware from https://www.bitmaintech.com/support.htm?pid=00720151023101739550pOBiK5sO06A0

on sd card.

and then to place it in unit. maybe then unit will start working."

I will try that and let you guys know if it worked. I'm guessing more people will have this problem. If this fixes i, that would be nice.

I'd be very interested if this works for future units.  I have already sent the 9 hashcards and 3 controllers back to Bitmain.

It didn't work.

There are most likely no real batches-there are two machines with 135 and 154 chips respectfully, which engineers/marketing sliced and diced into "batches" based on individual machine variability.

if this is the case,, they need to send me my   sh**t  Smiley

they already sent B5 and B4 is coming today.

They sent you B5 already? can you tell what day you ordered?

ordered on 11/3 (and it looks like that they created a shipping label on 11/4), shipped today.

I also ordered 11/3, paid for 11/4.  so I hope to see mine shipped very soon...   last couple of batches got stopped at customs for a SSN, hope this batch slips thru

Well, after 2 weeks of steady hashing and perfect functionality, my S7 (Batch 3) suddenly stopped hashing and has bricked.
All front-facing LEDs are off now, and the only LED that is on is a steady red light on the main control circuit board on the top of the device.
The fan is on very low, and I cannot connect to the miner via its IP address any longer. The PSU (AW3) works just fine.

The miner was running on factory default settings the whole time, and temperatures were well within range of normal use.

Pushing in the hard reset button for 10 sec. resulted in a beep followed by the front two LEDs (green & orange) staying on and not blinking with the red light still on on the controller. After repowering, the front LEDs remain off.

Any ideas on how to fix this, or what caused it?

you cannot connect to it after reset? or can connect with no hashing?

Neither works. Reset does not work. Holding reset down makes a beep and then red + green LED on front stay solid. If i tap the green button thing to the left those lights come off. At no time am I able to connect to the device..

maybe start again by switching psu off for 20 min, then try again. Sometimes recovery is possible (if controller overheated from low fan) plus check if you actually have internet connection and ethernet cable is properly engaged (the connector is a little flimsy).

i checked the ethernet cable, was fine.. here is an image of what it is doing.. .. nothing smells hot, no smoke or melted parts..

I would check volts coming out of the PSU with a meter and see what your getting. Or try another PSU.
