Glad you got it up and running!

I've got 5 more of these coming. Low hash power rigs seem to be popular on the rental site as mine has gotten three 100+ hour rentals in a row, so going to add a few to the catalog.

Thank you, hurricandave. Had a hunch my problem was an incorrectly installed driver. Did an uninstall of drivers for a clean start. Installed the latest CP210X and then latest Zadig. Kept messing around with the Zadig options until the driver details more-or-less matched those posted above. First time I ran CGMiner 4.9.0 it recognized the unit as "AU3 0" and has been hashing away at 56+GH for nearly 24 hours now using USB cord that came with the U3. It's running so cool with the 225MHz-750mV defaults I'll probably leave it just like that. Thanks again to all who responded.

Bitmain,

I think need to RMA one of my U3s, it has stopped hashing all together.  I came home from work yesterday and it was zombie (which is nothing new) but this time nothing I can do will get it to work again.  I've zadig and restarted several times, plugged and unplugged, but when you plug the USB in the one red power led comes on, then the hashing red led flashes a few times and that's it, the hashing led never goes solid.  cgminer does not ever recognize it being plugged in (but it does give an error when I unplug it).

Look in your device manager not cgminer. CG won't detect it, or do anything with it until the driver is right.

You can try running zagdig again and reinstall the driver, or open your device manage, look under USB devices and update driver

Already tried that. How about completely uninstalling drivers and beginning from a clean slate? How do I uninstall the Zadig drivers, then the CP210x drivers?

No, mine doesn't look like that. CGMiner keeps returning"

"USB init, open device failed, err -12."
"You need to install a WinUSB driver for - AMU device 1:17"
"And associate - AMU device 1:17 with zadig"
"See README.TXT file included for help"
"Icarus detect 1:17 failed to initalize (incorrect device?)

Just picked up new U3 (new type with cage) and have tried the various configs posted in this thread with no luck. After installing the CP210 and Zadig drivers, U3 shows up in the devices list as recognized and running. Tried various CGMiner configs, but cannot get the U3 detected by the miner. What is the U3 supposed to be listed as on the devices page?

Did you download CGminer 4.9.0? That's the version that recognizes my U3. The newer ones do not.

Yes, noted the warning listed earlier and tried 4.9.0. I suspect the driver is not configured correctly. Using Windoze 7 x64, i7 machine with 16g mem. What is the U3 supposed to be listed as on the "Devices and  Printers" page? Was previously running 36 U1's on this machine with no problems.

Somebody remarked that in this thread are recommendations ot Atx-type psu to replace the U3 one.
Can somebody repeat that ?

Couldn't just find it on the 30 pages ))))))

Because the U3s requirements are essentially nothing, you'll want to look at a power supply you may have a use for in the future (other miners), as an investment. It would be wasteful to get something small and tiny for the U3 and later find out you can't do anything with it. The most recommended single PSU for mining is the Corsair CX750M.

@Dogie
I am new to this. Can you shortly tell me, how would i connect the barrel type connection cable of the U3 to an ATX power unit ?
I saw on ebay that there are some adaptors offered, but i am not sure with this.
Which of the ATX plugs delivers 12V with 6A+ ?

Yes, ok, don't know much about electricity except that usually a switch is needed to be pushed...)))))

Yes, buy one of the adapters you see on ebay and you are good to go.

Well I cleaned up the paste and reapplied it correctly on all 3 of my U3s.  God damn what a mess!  It made a little difference, each one runs 1-2gh faster than before when run solo, which I can attribute to better heat dissipation.  But it made absolutely no difference (as I expected) in more than one working when plugged in at the same time.

So now I think I've tried everything.  Anyone else have any ideas?  Why can some people run two of them at 100+gh just fine?  I'm about to give up and ebay these things...  Undecided

Probably not a good idea in practice because the worker difficulty gets too high for the U1/U2, but it works fine.
Worker difficulty makes no difference to performance. It's fine for difficulty to be suitable for the combined hashrate and not each device.

I stand corrected then.

If worker performance was tied to diffictult solo mining would be impossible since the only share that gets accepted is one that is higher than network difficulty.

Thx to everyone, I found already one.

@MikeStang

Can I come back to you, when the new PSU burns in the next time ?
Where are you located ?

Yup, I'll still have them, they're in a box in my garage.  I am in California, USA.

I ran and compiled current version of BFG. Runs at 48 GH/s with default settings. I'm not overclocking because I'm using the piece of crap power block Bitmain provided.
Have you by any chance used U2 and U3 in the same instance of bfgminer? I've heard whispers of problems running them simultaneously

Yes. No problems.

My U1/U2's run fine at 2 GH/s each overclocked, with the default U3. Probably not a good idea in practice because the worker difficulty gets too high for the U1/U2, but it works fine. I'm also "Blackbird17k" on github btw, and I've been commenting there as well.

[well, let me edit] There is a problem in that sometimes the U3 won't get recognized. But usually I unplug/plug, and then it works fine on the next startup.
