Very charismatic main character in the movie "Silence of the Lambs" and "Hannibal." I advise.

Actually there was a movie on Netflix called The Colony that was surprisingly good.  It stars Laurence Fishburne and Bill Paxton.

After Earth with Will Smith and his son was a horror movie to me since it was the worst movie I have ever seen. Before you ask I was in the cinema else I would've not just closed the movie but destroy whatever device it was on.

1408 and The Mist were pretty excellent (Stephen King fanboy).

Kubrick's The Shining is much better than either of those. Not recent, but a
classic horror film.

Saw is my favorite, but it's not so catchy after 2nd part
I never had to watch the movie Saw. Always I thought that he has an excessive amount of blood. The opportunity to change his opinion after watching.

The Rise of Leslie Vernon. It wasn't scary, but it was a cool idea. A good mix of documentary style film making that shows the inner working of how a horror icon is born. Never knew how much planning and just straight up work goes into it lol. It has a twist ending that would jack slap any of M Night Shamalongadingdong's current work right in the mouth.

Recently I watched "Cannibal" "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Not to say that it is very good, but it was terrible.
