I often surf the net searching such discussions. I saw many lists of the best horror movies. Unfortunately, none impressed me. They all looks foreseeable and similar:-\

The Witch was quite good. It's more of artsy horror than the 'slasher/things jump out at you' type, however.
I watched Conjuring 2 and Lights Out.
Conjuring 2 is far better, I would even recommend it.

Sinister, REC, Blair Witch Project, and The Ring were some of my favorites.
Another one that is pretty creepy is Dabbe: Bir Cin Vakasi (2012)
There were plenty of sequels but this one and the 2nd one were the best and truly creepy
