If you're interested in Airdrop coins, I'd take a look at RISE.

They are a relatively new project running an incubator program where RISE holders receive 20% of new incubator projects.

https://rise.vision/index.php/blockchain-incubator

I've also written a summary of the project and details I found relevant.

I'm sorry, maybe I don't read enough about crypto--what is an airdrop coin?

It actually means that once the coin is dropped on Bitcointalk, money is being generated out of air.

~CfA~
Not trying to be dense:  Is that what it really means?  I will say that I see a lot of coins for which that's exactly the case.

i was joking Wink

Check out Auroracoin for instance - a classic example of Airdrop.

~CfA~

Auroracoin is a classic example of why an airdrop won't work.  Grin
There have been plans of air dropping even small amounts of bitcoins (in Dominica) to increase bitcoin adoption.

Auroracoin brings me bitter memories. I mined the fucking thing for hours on my very limited computer, managed to get like 30 AUR, I thought I could get some BTC out of that, then I wake up with a super mega pump that made my AUR be worth like 1.5 BTC. I was tripping. 1.5 BTC out of nowhere (just 3 days with my computer on mining all day).

Well, it turns out I was too greedy and too much of a noob to sell, so when it started going down I was like, "well it will go back up".
Ended up selling them months later for a couple satoshis. I guess it's better than actually lossing them on Cryptsy for nothing... geeez, it could have been my first 1+BTC. It took me a year to actually make 1BTC after that.

I am yet to make my first 1 BTC lol, I have lost some great opportunities too :feelsbadman:

Has anyone participated in the DeepOnion airdrop? You need to wear their signature in order to participate in the airdrop, so I ignored the campaign. But is it worth participating? DeepOnion has already started trading in some of the exchanges.

Yes, it is worth participating, I am having fun with it. It has been a long time since I got in on a coin from the ground up, and it is a well run campaign. If you are to busy with your current sig you can go over to the DeepOnion community forum https://deeponion.org/community/
and sign up there, they have some contests and bounties for onions.

Considering the thread success, a lot of people participated and I think more & more will since the coin is now trading on exchange.
It is hard to know if it is worth, as far as I can tell the airdrop works fine and I personally believe in this coin potential.

Just Ran across this airdrop (EOT tokens AIRDROP campaign) https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/eot-tokens-airdrop-campaign-phase-2-ended-2088902
Looks like if you join the slack you can get some airdropped tokens.
I've gone and looked over there, I've joined and left my waves address in their sagging channel according to their orders to leave the wallet's address on the slack channel and hopefully I'm not too late for this, by the way, thanks for the information.

Your welcome, Hope it turns out good. I have not made the time to sign up for that one yet.

Here is another one https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-bitcoin-love-a-token-of-love-to-everyone-airdrop-2092639 Bitcoin love. One thread about it was deleted already, so I am not sure how long it will be there.

I will like to participate in the bitcoin love airdrop but i just can not see their wallet on their announcement thread.

Op; try your best to update your ann. thread with the list of the past and current airdrops you have posted in order to give your thread the authority it needs.

There seems to be some hubub about the wallet. Always be careful with new wallets, do online virus check, run on old spare computer, compile the wallet yourself, ect...
and if it does not smell right stay away.

I'm new as well but the way I understand it is: an air drop is free coin given out by the developers of a coin as a mean of releasing it too as many people as possible before it goes on an exchange or is released to the general public through mining or other means. They do this to spread awareness of the coin and their concept. It varies from coin to coin. Someone else may have a better answer.

That's a pretty good explanation. In some cases established coins may do an airdrop as well (such as the recent Byteball and Stellar airdrops) as part of their publicity campaign.

It's a nice bonus when you can get free coins if you have the patiences to HODL them. Here's an example:

When NEM (New Economy Movement) launched in 2014 I signed up for an initial distribution and got 10,000 free NEM. Being the short-sighted bloke that I am, I noticed that it was already trading on Poloniex and that I could get a whole 50 cents for them! Whee! So I promptly sold them and patted myself on the back for the free pocket change. I mean, with a weird name like that how could it ever catch on?

Fast-forward to 2016 and one day I noticed that NEM had clawed its way onto the Top 100 chart at Coinmarketcap. Hmm. My 10,000 NEM were now worth $10. Did I dare buy back in and hope for further gains, or would I just wind up wiping out that 50 cent profit by losing a couple bucks if it deflated? After studying it a little more, I bought my 10,000 NEM back.

Then late this spring I sold them again for over $2,000. So I missed on the rise from 50 cents to $10, but thankfully I got to ride the rest of the wave. Let that be a lesson in HODLING!

Great story, thanks for sharing!
It was crypto early days. I wonder if any airdrop nowadays could be so profitable in future.
What's your opinion?

It is hard to tell if the coin will have great price in future, that's why ebliever sold it at 2016 for $10, but luckily he bought back again. So, since the airdrop is free, his lesson teach us "HOLD".

Just want little bit share my experience.
Now I'm participating about 18th of airdrops and giveaways all together.

So now is the best active airdrops - bitsend (maybe 17 coins per week, bitsend available in exchanges), I like liteshares (just one guy open it, but I hope it will be like bitcoin-litecoin), possible to receive netm. And you can try bitrad.io, but I think it quite late to earn coins by listening radio (available in exchange)
