Who is buying these things at 800 dollars? At that rate why not go with a 1080 Ti? The Vegas are only amazing at Cryptonight from what I can tell.  Almost a cryptonight ASIC as a mining card...

Why wouldn't they? A modified vega gets double what a 1080ti can net you in returns. Even if it's cryptonight/ethereum only there are these things called Exchanges where you can then convert to your coin of choice. Not sure if you've heard of them before.
Not anymore my friend. A 1080Ti, albeit overpriced, will now net you more per day than a Vega. If the Vega was priced at MSRP then there would be no contest. But at $800+, there are better choices out there.
You do realize the only reason for that is the sudden pump zclassic/zcash/zcoin/hush have had in the last couple days right?  Once difficulty adjusts Vega will still be better over all. When monero pumped from 140 to 400 vegas we're making 4X+ what anything else made. Guess what the difficulty caught up with moneros price and we're back at old profitably, same will happen with the 1080tis and we'll be back with vega as #1. Btw I have both reg moded vega rigs mining ETN and 1080ti rigs mining Equihash/Lyra2z. Can't even imagine the crazy profitability we'd get per card if ETN makes a price action,  would be insane.

In short the 1080ti can barely keep up with vega with huge price actions XD still no contest.

Except the 1080ti is better at literally everything except cryptonight. It's not even close at all when you look at hash power per Kilowatt used.  How is Vega better overall?  1080ti can chase the crazy prices every week while Vega hopes cryptonight coins stay pumped up. Just like you said, difficulty caught up on the cryptonight coins. 1080ti is more flexible to allow you to mine any algonwith a hot coin.

Honestly asking to see what I'm missing here as I'm trying to decide between them right now.  I'd get a Vega55 if it were 400 dollars but it seems like a tough choice when you're talking 750ish for either 1080ti or Vega56.

I don't get how the Vega is better because monero and sumo and etn have pumped, but the 1080ti isnt better because the equihash coins pumped.  The Vega is awesome for crypto night and I love monero, but what happens when there are more Vegas out there in the hands of miners and are trapped mining cryptonight? Difficulty will skyrocket especially if the profitability of one of the 3 or 4 popular cryptonight coins decreases, will it not?

Today, using last 24 hours profit only, 1080ti has 15 coins over 5 dollars a day profit.  Vega has 4 coins above 5 dollar per day.

anyone have ASUS ROG STRIX VEGA 64's and nitro plus vega 64 powerplaymod files?

i had order that,it will come tomorrow.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Why would the registry files be any different than the stock blower style cooler? It's the exact same card.. It baffles me how people think changing the outside cooler turns it into a completely different card. If the core and memory are the same (from same manufacturer), the card will perform exactly the same (apart from better thermals of course)...
strix is arrived and testing.i had use PPmod regfile same Airblower model. it works fine.
now testing.... Wink Wink Wink

Hi, do you mind sharing your ASUS Strix Vega 64 BIOS with me? Can I know if the model that you get are using Samsung/Hynix memory?

I have acquired an ASUS Strix Vega 56 recently, but with Hynix memory, and it seems that while I can push the mem clock to 950, and subsequently hashing it at about 1.8k - 1.9k, all it produces are just invalid shares on both XMR-stak & Cast-XMR. I can only somewhat reliably hashing with 900 Mhz @ 1.75 kh/s, and it still produces trickles of invalid shares. Seems like better cooling solution could potentially come with a downside of worse silicon lottery.

Thanks.

quick setup hit 2k+ also silent and cool than Airblow but its not worth 900USD at japan.

The max mem overclock I can get on 2x Vega56 is 930Mhz and 890Mhz @ 900mV.
They are giving me 1940 and 1860 H/s respectively.

Used powertables in registry and blockchain driver. Everything adjusted through OverdriveNTool without using WatMan.

Any hints on how to get more overclock?

Try flashing your card with the Vega 64 BIOS and re-applying the registry mod (use the 1100 HBM to start, to see if it's stable).

Eh, I think I got it now. Thank you whoever said on here that afterburner had support for Vega now.

3x 56 = 5760 h/s and looks stable. I was having OS freezing issues before. Now I will test for awhile.

power = +25-30
mem = 915-920
core = 1474 (my cards really like this number for some reason....eliminated core throttling)

Anyone knows if the Sapphire nitro requires all 3x8pin?
So far, yes. I've tried booting with 1 + 2 and 2 + 3 and neither configuration would allow Windows to see it.

Curious to try 1 + 3 sometime, but that's for another day. But as long as you have a 300W PCIe cable (i.e. dual 8pin), it's a $4 fix for an 8-pin splitter.

i'm going to need those server PSUs with tons of 6 pins.

My Sapphire Nitro+ 56 just arrived a few hours ago, been tinkering with it but the most I'm getting is around 1300 h/s.

Got core -30% and memory at 945. It's running smooth but I was expecting a fair bit more.

Does anyone have Nitro+ 64 BIOS they could share as I think the next step is trying to flash the silent bios with 64 unless anyone has any other suggestions!!
Download GPU-Z and find out who manufactures the HBM2. If it's Hynix (and it probably is), you may be SOL in terms of mining performance - at least until AMD fixes their software so that Cryptonight workloads utilize the Compute drivers.

An announcement was made around the 15th of December that the Nitro cards were shipped to retailers, but I haven't heard of them being sold anywhere yet.

NewEgg had them. I own a 56, and a family member has two 64s.

Yeah ... Newegg currently has a FE Vega card for $750USD and you can only buy 1.  No one has had these things at a reasonable price for the past month.  I bought six XFX Vega 56's around November 26th for $525USD each including tax and shipping.  I love them.  A few days later I bought six more from B&H at $550 each on backorder.  A month later, they send me an email saying AMD has discontinued them and cancel my order.

I don't mind paying 600-625 per card for a Vega 56, if someone had them in stock.  Idiot on Amazon is selling one for $1999.00.  Yeah sure, I'll pay that much for a Vega 56 when the crypto market cap is trillions of dollars as a whole.  I'm just pissed off that I had an order for 6 in at $550/card and a month later, they say ... Sorry, can't fulfill your order ... Lol.  That and I need to buy more than one at a time.

Because I can't draw too much power, I have to maintain the rig under 850W to be cool.

I have 5 Vega (4 x 56 flashed + 1 64)

My current stable setting in OverdriveNTool :
1250 MHz core - 880 mV
1000 MHz mem - 880 mV
-24% power limit
3500 RPM FAN

1650 H/s @ 130W per card after PSU efficency (140W at the wall per card)

Someone get better sweet spot for 125-135W max ?

Is there any work on when a new batch of Vega’s will be available?  I can’t find these stinking things anywhere.

New models are coming.  Sapphire has a nice 3 fan version that ressembles the FURY they had a while back.  But until those get on the market....there wont be any for sale methinks.  And when they do...profitability is really good so they will fly off the virtual shelves.

I've had 6 Vega 56's on back order with B&H since November 29th.  An announcement was made around the 15th of December that the Nitro cards were shipped to retailers, but I haven't heard of them being sold anywhere yet.

One of the rigs, after running perfectly for one week without hashrate drops, its now beginning to drop the hashrate after a few hours.  Again, windows installation is frozen to the same state as one week ago. No updates, no driver changes.   This hashrate drop purely caused by another variable affecting the cards.  The other twin rig, has no problems whatsoever.

The twin has a monitor plugged in? This happens when the screen goes to sleep, hence people recommend keeping the monitor plugged in at all times or having a hdmi dummy plug?

I'm use my 4 Vega 56 whitout hdmi dummy or monitor and works fine. Wink

Double? Where are you getting that from?

It's about the same from what I've an tell and the 1080 Ti is much more versatile.

If I could get a Vega at MSRP that would make sense but right now the 1080ti seems like a better choice than an 800 dollar Vega.

Also, of course I know about exchanges.  The point is your profitability is tied to a single algorithm and depends totally on coins with that specific algo being profitable when you swap them.

What to mine actually has the 1080 Ti at 14 dollars a day profit vs the Vega 56 at 10 dollar per day over the past 7 days profitability.

No, it is not just cryptonight...
ETH is a good too 44,5Mh/s

2x 570s would have a higher hash rate for less power and half the price.
