At 56 BIOS (Can't find Hynix 64 BIOS to flash on to try yet), I am able to actually run the mem overclock at 950, it actually won't crash but there is no accepted results, so I find the maximum mem overclock without throwing invalid shares at 890 Mhz.

It's taking 900 mV using overdriveNTool, on hwInfo it's drawing 0.881V just like my previous ref vega56. (Still unsure if this is the core clock power draw or mem clock power draw) This is with registry edit so the undervolt works, compared to ref vega 56, my on the wall power draw has been reduced by about 30 Watt. I imagine the power draw should be the same as ref, the difference is likely due to me running ref vega 56 at 64 BIOS (higher mem/core clock power draw @ 1.35V).

For reference,
before: r7 1700 + rx480 8gb + ref vega56 (64 BIOS) -> ~ 400W
now    : r7 1700 + rx480 8gb + strix vega56 -> ~ 370W
Thanks again.
So it should be safe to assume that ref and aftermarket are about the same, except for the slower memory. Did you use the same registry tools (and .reg files) that you used in the ref card (I guess they're the same)?

So, what makes of aftermarket cards are out there ?
I know of Sapphire. Others ?
Also, what memory they're using ?

I myself has switched from Ref 56 to ASUS Strix Vega 56. The one I had comes with Hynix memory, it could push to 950 mem clock, but it's all invalid shares from there on, so I have to downclock the memory to 890 ish, doing about 1750 to 1800 h/s at best.

Thank you for sharing.
What is the tension you can run the hynix memory at ? Can it hold 875 or 900mV ? What is the power needs (higher or lower than the ref) ?

MSI V56 is getting OpenCL hang after about 30 minutes of mining. the drivers shit the bed and I have to DDU, reinstall drivers, pixel patch everytime. its quite annoying
i've tried the following so far

-replaced 2x 6+2 pin connectors
-replaced riser
-changed from 1x PCIe slot to 16x vice versa
-went from blockchain aug 23 release to Adrenalin driver.
- added -wd 0 in bat file, miner will stay on but the V56 in question reports 0.00Mh/s once OpenCL hang arises.

Can anyone think of anything else?

Anybody tried any other algos?

Question should be: Anybody tried any other algos and found similar or better results compared to cryptonight?

Cheers Smiley

Same question here. Is there a better site to compare equipment/ hardware to algorithms other than https://whattomine.com/?

/// could anyone point me in the right direction of some of the best vega guides

---Edit---
Just noticed you bought frontier's. The guides below while helpful won't fully apply to the frontier cards. There's been some talk in this thread about them but generally not as successful getting a full rig running as with the 56/64s.

Take a read through this thread and the cast thread. Both have great info. The mining guide below is the best one I've seen for Vega's.

I encourage you to read through the following threads/guides:
Vega thread  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/any-word-on-amd-vega-hash-rates-2002025
Cast thread   https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/cast-xmr-high-speed-xmrcryptonight-miner-for-rx-vega-gpus-2-khashs-2256917

Article here on how to get 3 Vega FE working, another guy claims 6

I have 3, 2 is no problem had trouble with the third but will try his tips - I was using the Vega 64 guide but FE is slightly different

http://www.legitreviews.com/mining-xmr-monero-amd-radeon-vega-frontier-edition-cards-2050-hs_201259

the above link doesn't always work, this seems better

http://forums.legitreviews.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=46645

will try it this weekend on my threadripper rig when I go home

The FE is faster if you can get it stable and I can get it down to 150W so power not an issue

After some trial and error, I think I got my vega rig to stablize Updated the Ref 64 from Aug23rd blockchain drivers to current Adrenalin drivers, went from barely holding onto 40Mh/s now hashing 42.8Mh/s on ETH. 56 saw no noticeable changes..stayed at just under 42Mh/s for both drivers
for cast-XMR the blockchain driver was a bit better for both the 56(MSI air boost) and 64s. 2k H/s per card easily with a little more room for the ref 64 provided they can stay cool.

Do all Vegas in reference design have Samsung HBM2?
Yes, when reference cards were made, only Samsung had HBM2 available. The aftermarket cards were late in part because Hynix wasn't ready.
Thanks :-)

I think, the max limit is from the bios/voltage.. flash the 64bios and you could easily get 1050mhz  Wink

just a question:

I can but a GIGABYTE RADEON RX VEGA56 in reference design.
It will be delivered next week.
Now I am concerning about the HBM2...

Do all Vegas in reference design have Samsung HBM2?

I myself has switched from Ref 56 to ASUS Strix Vega 56. The one I had comes with Hynix memory, it could push to 950 mem clock, but it's all invalid shares from there on, so I have to downclock the memory to 890 ish, doing about 1750 to 1800 h/s at best.

How does the noise of the card compare to the ref card? I assume a lot less noise to maintain similar temperature?

Yes, the pros are definitely lower fan speed and noise, you can achieve similar temperature with much lower fan speed, so it's doing 2.2k - 2.5k RPM at the moment.

This is probably not relevant if you are building an open air mining rig, but for my case it's my gaming PC, so another difference is the hot air is not disposed at the rear of the card (Reference), but being pushed within the closed case environment, so you will need a few casing fan to pull the hot air out as well.

currently the vega frontier is on sale @ newegg for 750, someones probably already posted that here but I'm still trying to catchup xD

Sooo, you can use the same registry mod for V56 Custom cards as for the Reference cards??
In my experience, no; it depends entirely on the memory. Many (all?) aftermarket 56s are using Hynix memory, which doesn't perform anywhere near the Samsung memory present in all reference cards, and aftermarket 64s.
