A "poke" is an old English slang for a bag.

It is all the same concept.

Look in the bag / container to verify what you're getting before you pay for it.

-- edit

I looked up "pig in a poke" when I once asked an older programmer to provide verification/validation that the code he was supplying actually performed to the level he stated. His response was "I bet you wouldn't buy a pig in a poke, either.". And then he went off and wrote / provided the unit tests proving his assertions.

"Trust, but verify."

We have the exact same expression in German: "die Katze im Sack" = literally "the cat in the bag".

I saw in  vocabulary - yeah, its a pig in a poke.

Here it called black cat in a pocket.

Interestingly, I've never heard "pig in a poke" either. It's also not nearly as weird as "black cat in a pocket".

It means in Russian selling something that isn't really exists.

Like vapourware? Sweet. This will be my new favourite proverb with which I can confuse my friends.

I do love Russian proverbs, especially naima53's grandfather's proverbs. For example:

I hope that will not happen. But my grandfather said, "If the elephant pushes to itself in an ass the trunk - Means Somebody wishes it"

Not for selling black cat in a pocket!

Can you explain that proverb. It's weird and I'd like to use it but i have no idea what it means.

My best guess is that it would be similar to a "pig in a poke".

This is ALL not done like that!

There are a crowdfinding services like kickstarter, which verifies business plan, company info, etc, etc!

Company must gather funds for asic technology research there! For research! Not for selling black cat in a pocket!

And this is $30.000.000 scam.

hahaha only are trying scare people to cancel their orders to break BFL

BFL Enemies:
Miners scared of increasing difficulty.
Miners without money to invest in ASIC.
Bored trolls.

you forgot the 4th group: those watching all companies simultaneously and seeing BFL consistently announcing delays or lack of demonstration units, while avalon has phonographs of thier chips and an actual release countdown timer.

They play records? Avaon's units sound really old school now. Get ready to scratch up that funky beat.

I think all manufacturers should provide sound recordings of their equipment. How else is one supposed to know if the missus will be ok with an ASIC mining device in the living room of a small apartment? How loud will the fans be? How obnoxious the tone? These are good things to be able to know before you buy. And why not phonographs? Vinyl is making a resurgence after all.

People, you probably need to ask immediate chargeback to not get burned.

It looks like an end of this financial pyramid. Should I explain what happened on panic funds withdrawal from ponzi?

Did someone said investors panic? Did someone said ponzi?

BFL doesn't need enemies. They have themselves! (and incompetence!)

Wait I am one of the biggest?

I can't compete with the cardboard box cutout (demo). Nor can I even compete with the official alluminum cutout (actual BFL non-working demo). Lucif is the big dog of this joint. Props to the man for rivaling the creativity of BFL.
