They just started using Ether cash machines in Toronto, Canada!! https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/7xxbwz/toronto-just-got-its-first-ethereum-atms

The writer is not super optimistic on it but it is maybe demonstrating some more mainstream acceptance

I heard there was a spike in 2014/2015, haven't heard much about it in the news recently.

Are you referring to some news in which some companies are planning to distribute ATM machines which accept and disburse Bitcoin? I heard that in some parts of Europe there are already some of these machines and there are plans for more. This is a big promotion for Bitcoin because ATMs can be really so accessible and convenient for all people to try.

I really doubt whether these machines are becoming more popular. A few years back, there were 4-5 machines in my country. But most of them closed down after less than one year in operation. Right now there are just 2 Bitcoin ATMs, and I heard that they are also about to wind up the operations. The high fees was one of the reasons why people stayed away from them.

If you're talking about bitcoin atm machines, then yes, they're definitely getting more popular. Due to the increased exposure of bitcoin to the mainstream and its increased popularity, bitcoin atms will probably increase as well.

Bitcoin cash machines? Did you mean bitcoin ATMs? If yes, I think they are yet to become popular. In my country, few people have knowledge about bitcoins. Those who are do are mostly those who are into ponzi schemes or HYIPs. The govt. is yet to pass any law on bitcoin. Bitcoin atms might become popular in other countries but in my country.....nah!

The high fees are the problems for ATMs.
I know of one machine in my area, and that got closed because nobody used it.
Paying five, sometimes even ten percent more than you would pay if you bought your coins somewhere on the internet, that is something many people drives away.
So to me it is at least questionable if the ATM service will be able to survive.

Besides: Bitcoin Cash is a new crypto currency.
I do not think machines for them will ever be built.

I know that thay are at almost any corner in Vietnamise cities, vietnamise much more prefer to send money with btc than fiat, than thay go to money machine and cash out.Money machines of one Spanish bank are integrated btc,you can withdraw with euro fee is only 1% same service is available in Romenia and Lithuania

You have no clue what you're talking about.
First thing first. It's Romania not Romenia.

Second there is no such service anywhere in Spain. The only atm's I've seen around are having some huge fees (5-8%) and they are not linked to any bank.

Again, unlike you want to be labeled as a troll.
What;s the name of the bank and the service?

One of the world's leading Bitcoin-powered casinos
although there is only few ATM machine that we can found, I am sure in future we can see many places in big country will have more bitcoin ATM but we need to be patience first. I think it will become more popular when many people is joining into bitcoin and I am sure, in future people needs bitcoin ATM too like ATM cash money. it will make us easy to make transaction if we want to buy or sell bitcoin if we can found ATM machine in everywhere.
This js the reality that in the starting when we got the system of tue banking then we were limited to get our money from the same bank from where we got the account but time to time we get the fascility to cash out our money from the atm Booth which is not a small achievement .
Here bitcoin is in the starting and it is limited to few people but i am sure like the banking sector it will have the features to withdraw the money from the debit card or ATM card directly .
Since already in few countries it is available to use , about 3 yeard ago when i searched about it then I found the topic of this bitcoin atm matchine in a country ( i didn't remembered more now but soon every country will have bitcoin ATM machine )

I hear the news of ATM in my country growing every year. Bitcoin ATM machines are becoming popular in my country. Easy transactions and low fees. So many people use this atm. For transaction and widraw to fiat money. I think it will become more popular again in the future. If we see the development of bitcoin very rapidly and most people invest in it. I hope the bitcoin atm machine is getting more and more popular

Yes, it's always becoming more popular, but not so fast, the popularity of these machines grow very slowly yet.

The countries with most Bitcoin users are the third world countries where this kind of machines are hardly found. For most Bitcoin enthusiasts it's still worthless on their daily life.

We are traveling now, and I hope to drop by a BTM in they city where we just arrived.  Finally I will have some time to so something like this.  I hope that they do not require local ID (I am American).  I will not spend much...

Or perhaps work out a deal with a helpful local for $5, LOL.

The BTC ATMs (BTMs) are convenient once you have gone through the AML/KYC process.  But the fees are high (the ones in the USA I have used vary between 12% - 18% fee buying them, I have not sold via BTM).

But, in my city, it is a HASSLE setting up meetings via localbitcoins.con (making an appointment OK with both, driving over & parking, paying whatever fee the SELLER asks for, etc.).

I used Circle for a while before they made using it a pain in the ass, but their fee was very low (a little over 1%).

bitcoin.com offers a service, the total fee is about 7.5% and has worked OK.

HIGH FEES are the problem for me, when in the USA.  But remember, the owners of the machines have to collect the money (each day?) as well as maintain them, pay rent to the store owners, etc.

Ouch in Canada most of them are at 8% but 12-18% now that is milking the American market, if you were near the border it might be tempting to cross and use Canadian machines.

And localbitcoins I agree is a hit and miss it depends on who your dealing with and their rates.

By the looks of it the consolidation is occurring in the US at those high rates though so lack of competition may be a factor or more regulation costs to operate in your state etc.

THAT is an excellent article (highlighted) on BTC ATM ("BTM") concentration.  In my city, there is a local company with perhaps the largest share of installed machines, but Athena has entered the market.

So far I have NOT noticed any drop in BTM fees (I pay around 14%, ouch!  But it's convenient).  If the fees DO NOT come down, that would tend to reinforce the notion I have read that BTMs are expensive to operate (I could certainly believe that).

I am traveling so do not recall the brand of the BTMs.  But the machines are working better now, I guess that they have worked out the kinks.
