Money should make you happy but if it doesn't then you are probably spending it the wrong way. See the eight suggested principles to help anyone to be able to get happiness from their money.
  • buy more experiences and fewer material goods
  • use your money to benefit others rather than yourself
  • buy many small pleasures rather than fewer large ones
  • eschew extended warranties and other forms of overpriced insurance
  • delay consumption
  • consider how peripheral features of your purchases may affect your day-to-day life
  • beware of comparison shopping
  • pay close attention to the happiness of others

These suggestions are not mine but are from the scientific findings of EW Dunn et al. They are valid suggestions which even without reading have been practicing.  What are you take on these suggestions? Do you have more to add to what the researchers have discovered about this?

The third, fifth and sixth recommendations are good, maybe even the seventh depending on if they actually meant that people should not make a purchase based on what their neighbor bought, however there are quite a few I do not agree with, for example the very first one, while going on an expensive vacation may seem to be great, once you do so you have nothing to show for all that money spent, if instead you bought something like a cheap car then not only it is something you can use almost everyday, but in the case you get into financial trouble you could always sell it and get some of your money back.

On the topic, I think that no one has the right to decide who and how to spend their own money. If I enjoy buying cars more than charity or traveling, then who's to say I'm wrong? We're freemen, aren't we? So why should people listen to someone to follow the crowd effect? Each person is an individual; someone likes the little things, and someone likes one-time large purchases. Who here will judge what is true and what is not? Who are the judges?
The phrase that touched me the most was that I should notice the happiness of others. Why should I? I'm not interested. Be individual in everything and live your life.
I think what you say is true and the fact is that we are individuals who are free to control everything we want. Giving according to our interests is up to anyone or even not at all and prefer to spend it to support self-satisfaction ambitions. But what the OP quoted is also true when viewed from socialist life helping one another, alleviating what is suffered, and in the end there is a point where we will also need the reciprocity of other people's services. So in this case the finances used cannot be regulated by theoretical matters from books. Depending on the suitability of a person with their own way of life.

Lots of pros and cons, for example

  • buy more experiences and fewer material goods
Some experiences are not worth fighting for or risking. In this forum, many people tell how they bought their first investment experience, they had to "pay" a very high price because they were deceived. In this case, buying material goods is more feasible if they know about the ending.

In conclusion, everyone knows how they should be happy. If you did an opinion survey of the richest people, they probably wouldn't mention money at all in this context.
I would like to agree with your opinion that experience are will not be worth for fighting against risk But this applies only when one does not learn anything from his experience, i.e. if he has made a mistake in his experience then he has to learn from it. In this case, experience is of no use to those who cannot learn from those mistakes. Most successful people have value in their experiences, because they have learned from their experiences and applied them to their future goals.

Happiness has no rule book and what stands as happiness to you may to be the same for me. And one thing I think isn’t right to do is teach people how they are to spend their money.

Quote
li]buy more experiences and fewer material goods[/li]
[li] use your money to benefit others rather than yourself[/li]
[li]buy many small pleasures rather than fewer large ones[/li]
[li]eschew extended warranties and other forms of overpriced insurance[/li]
[li]delay consumption[/li]
[li]consider how peripheral features of your purchases may affect your day-to-day life[/li]
[li] beware of comparison shopping[/li]
[li]pay close attention to the happiness of others[/li]
[/list]
1. You actually can’t buy experience your rather you can go through experience, and this should not stop you from getting the material things you need.

2. I won’t work my ass off only to then use my own money to others and not myself, this would actually be saying the impossible. I believe it’s fine to make your self happy and then be generous enough to impact in the lives of others financially.

In conclusion I don’t see how the list you made would make someone happy rather the person would live a boring life and may never accomplish personal self esteem. You can stop your life just for others.

Personally I always have a feeling of satisfaction in terms of food at times I might necessarily get hungry and always feeling happy whenever I have money for personal use because I would have less worry on any thing that involves spending of the money.
  • buy more experiences and fewer material goods
  • use your money to benefit others rather than yourself
For the first list I use my extra money for building of a personal house not necessarily spending expensively on the project rather gradual construction as  more flow into my account.
While I tried as much as I can to assist others in terms of rendering financial help to those who really needed the assistance by giving small amount of my money.

As far as I'm concerned I don't really bothered myself about the above list because I was able to fulfill the requirements of the other list above this oned thus the above list seems not too relevant to my ideology.

  • use your money to benefit others rather than yourself
Spend your money on people who you know are less privileged than you are and need help. You will get more satisfaction and happiness knowing you are doing something good than lavish spending.

Spend money to strengthen relationships with people.

  • pay close attention to the happiness of others
Yes, but not at the cost of your own happiness. Your happiness should be priority, and if you notice that your close attention to someone's happiness is causing you pain, losses and regrets, you should stop. If you also notice that the person is not really concerned for their own happiness, you should also stop stressing.

The power of money is undeniable, it can't buy happiness, it can't buy health, but it can maintain those things for you.

Very right. Money is good because to a far extent it can help you achieve many things that will bring you happiness including good health. If you have bad health, you can help you solve some bills to get you better and moreover if you have some health defects , that doesn't make you happy, you can go under the knives to correct such only if you have money. Yes the things money can do are numerous and so lack of it put many factors in discordant.

Money cannot buy happiness but it can buy us comfort and luxurious things which can give us happiness temporarily. I think happiness that comes from acquiring things is not sustainable and can be lost when you lose those things, in my opinion true long lasting happiness comes from within.
I agree with most of the list, time with family and friends is a better way to spend money, it’s a wonderful experience to have. I rather spend my money on people and not things.

Even if you find happiness from within, you won't be able to keep it for long without money. Are you married yet? My wife and I don't come together for money, but when life is at a standstill, without money, there are hundreds of things to worry about. And if you don't have money when life is at a standstill then your happiness will be shattered from there. The power of money is undeniable, it can't buy happiness, it can't buy health, but it can maintain those things for you.

OP: First, find out what danger a.pdf file can carry for users. I would recommend opening such files less and less often, especially posting links to them on the forum.

Spending money to make others happy is a good thing when it happens for a good cause but it doesn't happen every day or with everyone so as an individual we will try to make ourselves happy then only the remaining thing like charity and others.

Not everyone is the same in this world as well so their happiness varies from another individual for example who is passionate about adventures will be happy when they spend money on their adventure journey whereas for a sport passionate they will be happy when they spend anything which will make them better on that sport.

For these 4 points, maybe I understand enough and their attitudes are common among many people. While others are not easy to understand but implemented in an unplanned manner.

All the points above refer to positive results, I completely agree regardless of how we apply them to the people around us and to fulfill our own happiness. Because actually what I hope for is when I can make other people happy, even if not in a fancy way, but the aura will make us feel more grateful. We know money is not everything but with money we can buy happiness in our own way. As long as the goal is to spread kindness to see others happy with the results of our hard work. Then for points

Of course I've also spent money on negative things just wanting to be happy, as usual sometimes I also have to channel my lust so I'm looking for women, of course it's not difficult because most of them are also open on social media, but happiness in the wrong way only makes regret for wasting money hard to find.

All of these suggestions have proven to be good if applied in everyday life. Because applying these principles will definitely bear fruit with a sense of happiness. But here I have another opinion about how to use money for happiness.
In my personal opinion, the name of happiness is very relative for everyone. Because everyone must have a different opinion about happiness and must have different financial levels. It all depends on the situation and conditions of each.
Happiness that can be felt through having money has many ways, especially for people who are rich. There's a lot that can be done, simple examples such as going on vacation to various places, eating at good restaurants, and being able to buy the things you want.

But all of that only applies to people who are rich, because people who have a middle to lower financial level will definitely have a different way to enjoy money. And all of that in essence is to pursue a happiness.

Most people I know they are in debt and basically got a nice House and brand new cars. Everything purchased as a loan. One guy even owed more on his old car and somehow got that debt transferred to a new car. So he is even more under water now.

Know a bunch of people who bought a house when rates were low and they did nothing but complain about the mortgage, saying it’s too high. Now when they refinance they will be in for a shock.

Debt is the American dream. Everyone is in debt.
Debt has become a habit and I often encounter this kind of thing around me, who are in their office, they buy a house with a loan and have installments of up to 15 more years, while for cars they have to pay installments for at least 5 years, this has become their lifestyle, but I don't know how much income they get, but in this way it looks like they are happy, but I'm sure at the end of the month they will be a little stressed with the installments.

With a high lifestyle, spending a lot of money in the wrong way is my own assumption, while for me of course thinking about something else and more important is an investment for the future for children and family.

Not only in America, even in my own country, debt has become a habit for everyone.

that's all true but we have different happiness, sometimes there are people who are happy in their own way even though compared to other people it won't match.
I personally appreciate myself in my own way to make me happy with the money I have, after having a hard time making money, I think there's nothing wrong with spending a little money by fulfilling all my desires. I want to stay within reasonable limits and keep thinking about yourself in the future.

I like most of the suggested principles because it points to the fact that using money the right way is what brings happiness. Some rich people derive pleasure in oppressing the poor. They want to show off expensive houses, cars, and other expensive items because they want the less privileged to respect or even worship them. But your suggestions portrayed that real happiness and a good life are triggered by ensuring that people around you are also assisted. I know we can't help everybody but let's ensure our wealth touches the life of the less privileged in our society positively. We don't have to waste money on unnecessary pleasure when our neighbors or community members are suffering from lack and want.

The idea of buying expensive and quality things is also good. Instead of wasting money on less durable items that will need replacements in a few months, it will be more economical to buy a durable but expensive product. This will help you save money that can be used for other meaningful needs.

Also, this is the first time I have read about the comparison expending term, I am not quite sure what it is.
From the pdf op linked, learn from expenditures of others on thing you want to purchase. Suppose, you want to watch a movie, read other people's reviews first. By doing thus, you'd save time and money. Although, I'd somewhat disagree with this as not all people's taste/expereinece are same but it'd still give brief idea whether you want to move forward or not.

I'd say if spending money doesn't make you happy maybe you're all spending it wrongly, even though all the advices above seems good, but I think important what makes one happy isn't necessarily coming from textbook advices like this. Just spend whatever you want, one might be happy enough when they can buy some good cars, not necessarily need good experience, everyone differ to each other.
someone else might also be happy by spending their money for buying luxury goods, it's all relative. but what matters most is that, an individual will be really happy when they got their basic needs settled. it's the most important thing, then the other thing comes after that.

You have a point there. How we can earn and spend is up to us, as long as we feel satisfied and happy. We don't have to follow the advice or what the textbook says, we can't force everyone to do the same thing when everyone is different.

Recently I have bought some necessary products for my work and needs, many people say that I am quite wasteful when buying such expensive things. But I don't care because it's my money, and I work hard to earn a lot of money simply to have a better life. I feel happy owning those things, I don't see anything wrong here. They are not me, how will they know what I need and think?
