Does someone know whats the connector on the side opposite to the usb? Is it a supplemental power device or a usb for stacking these?

It looks like it is for connecting directly to the USB headers on a motherboard.

Why didn't I saw that before.... That would be really genious!  Grin
(Looks like it's not directly connected on the mainboard but with a cable between it, but the idea is nice Smiley)

Auction seems like a good approach for price discovery. One would expect the price to approach the net present value of future mining profits of the most optimistic difficulty forecast. Assuming that price is achieved, it would actually be a considerably better deal to sell all the equipment rather than mining with them ourselves - especially if ASICMINERs expectations for difficulty are lower than the most optimistic forecasts of the mining community.

Then gradually as the most optimistic difficulty forecasts become more realistic, the price achieved in an auction will decrease - but ASICMINER can anyway keep selling until marginal cost, so there's a considerable profit to be made until that point.

Thats probably right. But i fear that the amount of Bitcoins needed to buy all these TH arent there. So that at the end its not the difficulty that drops the price but the fact that the money that could be spend on it already was spent. Leaving back only bidders that can bid less. It wouldnt be very good if out of this the last units sell for peanuts.
I might be wrong at this point, i only know me, and i dont like to have BTC lying around when there are possibilities to get more BTC with these.

At the end... i trust friedcat and team that they find a solution. They did till now... Smiley

Auction - yes, definitely
Every item - not so sure.

Look, we are talking about ~200 TH/s. That's 660 000 chips per 300 MH/s. Part will be small units (1 chip) and part will be 21GH/s boards that are currently deployed.

Who will manage thousands and thousands week long auctions?

I think optimal way to determine price is to do 10 (20?) week-long auctions on first machines. And sell others with that price directly (without auction).

You think 200TH will be sold? I dont know if thats the case but i think that would be a huge mistake. Firstly it would bring so much TH into the net that asicminer mining revenue would drop dramatically. But the worst thing would be that selling 200TH would need very much money spent from the community. Think about it this way: A Avalon asic with 65GH only sold for $25000 on ebay. That means you would need to sell 3076 units with 65GH. For a total price of $76,923,077 or 1,025,641BTC (when 1BTC=$75). And i believe it wont be possible to sell so many units or Mining Power for a real good price.

So i think Asicminer wont sell so much. I might be wrong but i see a problem there. Leading to units selling way under the price they should get when less units were sold.

I would like to know how long it will take until Asicminer can resume deployment though. It cant be too long i hope. If that happens it wouldnt be necessary to sell very much TH anymore.

I don't think ASICminer devices will be able to sell for the price Avalons fetch re-sale price, simply because ASICminer will deliver the moment you buy

Avalon was the only game in town, with a limited supply. Asicminer will change that and hence will drive the price down.

Especially if they sell off 200 TH/s.... optimizing revenue is game theory, so let the games begin  Wink

Auction costs time. It's better to sell 5 devices per day with profit margin 500% than one device per day with profit margin 1000%.
I think its really the best way, revenue-like, that Asicminer will go the auction route.
I agree.

Thinking about how Avalon has done it, it really makes sense to set up an auction, to see what the price should be. They owe this to their shareholders, I think.

Think about Avalon. They sold their devices at some arbitrary price, resulting in a lot of them ending up on eBay at 5 times that price. Now that's a lot of lost revenue. Instead of that revenue going to Avalon, it goes to some random dude who's selling his device on eBay, when Avalon could be making that extra money - well deserved.

Gauge what the market price for these devices should be, and start with that price, and keep doing this to satisfy demand.

I agree with this. However, the entire batch needs to be bid at once, we can't do multiple bids because people will just try to game that. Instead, say, if theres 100 units, we bid on all 100, and allow people to build on multiple units concurrently (ie, "2 units at 5 btc each").

I only said that you should check out the prices with an auction. Maybe sell 5 small units in a week. Then you have 5 prices for it and you can make a price out of it. You can then offer 100 units for that price. Im sure they will sell. If not you can still go down in price.
But at the end you even can auction many units over some time. For example every day set up 5 units for auction with a ending of auction in 7 days or so. The next day again 5 miners and so on.

And i dont think that its better to churn out as many units as possible for a lower price because these miners (probably not the small one) will be miners that cut your future revenue in mining too. So the price for selling should at least meet a good chunk of months of mining revenue that this unit would have brought.

As I see it - they (ASICMINER) should auction some 10-20 pieces of 21GH/s boards (packaged of course). And then calculate price of 300MH/s mini miner and just sell them.

sounds good to me. i can't see auctioning the little guys as single units as feasible.

man... they're gonna have us pounding their doors down for these things. they'll be able to sell thousands.

I think only auctioning will bring out what price they could bring. Judging down from the big miners most probably will undervalue the small ones. If selling then only after a number of the small ones were auctioned to find out the price. The reason is that its quite possible that people even pay more for it than the miner will bring in back in form of earnings. Only to own such nice/cool miner.

Of course a buyer would think different, but im a shareholder... Wink

I am out of the GPU mining game... and have been for over a year.  (I should not have stopped... but i did).  What is the current cost of a card that can pull 300Mh/s?  I would imagine still over $100 USD or so right?  Considering these take up less space... and FAR less power...  and I imagine produce less heat... well then we could sell them for a fair bit.

I'm interested in purchasing a largish number of shares (100's) if there's anyone who would prefer an off-market exchange to avoid slippage. PM me.

Have you tried the auction forum?
