Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
(namecoin is) the only existing alternative to the ICANN monopoly.

No, there are many, many other ICANN alternatives. They are all useless, just like Namecoin. Why? Because regular people can't access them. It's not reasonable to ask everyone on the entire internet to install plugins if they want to access your domains. Namecoin will never be a serious alternative to DNS.

"Regular people" don't use Bitcoin.  This community is a mecca for early adopters, not "everyone on the entire internet."

How are you any more useful than those saying 'there are many dollar alternatives, they are all useless just like Bitcoin?'

3.4BTC * 400,000 = 1360,000BTC
> 0.136 billion USD

Q: How much hashing power does Bitfountain plan to deploy within this year?
Friedcat: 800-1000T within this year.

Q: What are the specs of the second batch? When will the mass production begin?
Friedcat: The exact numbers will only be known when the chips are out of fab, currently we only have simulated results. Mass production will be in October the earliest.

Q: What would be the physical address of the offshore company be to registered?
Friedcat: It will be on an island where financial freedom is more possible to achieve.

Q: Do you have plans for future other than mining and selling hardware?
Friedcat: ASICMINER's business is confined within mining and selling mining hardware. We might do some
periphery work, but that won't be too distant.

Q: What kind of investors or business partners are you keeping in touch with?
Friedcat: We currently don't accept external funds, so there is no private investors. The partners we keep in touch with are mostly tech related.

Q: After the batch shipping from Avalon and BFL, how would the manufacturers in Shenzhen compete with them?
Friedcat: Our advantage to manufacture chips at the cost price is invincible.

Q: Are you hiring? What kind of people do you need?
Friedcat: We need people specialized in analog electronics, but we don't put much hope in finding this kind of people within China.

Q: Any plans or strategies that are suitable for the public to know?
Friedcat: We will be focusing more on the area that we have the most advantage in. It depends on whether we have more advantage in chip design or the ability to deployment fast.

Q: Why the hashing power of AM is not stable?
Friedcat: The variance of solo mining itself is relatively huge. And the whole network is being DDOS'ed lately, the 0.8.3 version of the software has fixed some bugs so as to prevent DDOS.

If this is true, 10 BTC/share is not unreasonable. Again, this is unverified information still but once it is confirmed....

Namecoin isn't only a DNS alternative, that's just it's most popular usage. It can handle many data types and others can be added, personally I'd like to see it as more of an address book including geodata, postal address, telephone numbers and searchable meta data but it could just as easily be used as a cake recipe database. The qt client is developing fast and there's a lot of potential with integration of additional features (such as a local DNS server).

That's way off topic though, hopefully friedcat will post an update soon but if not then no news is good news I guess.

Well someone translated something in the other thread but no news is good news if it cannot be confirmed
That or this is one elaborate scale spread at misinfo
Really not sure on this one so no news is good news waits on official friedcat but if it is real FAQ was answered and can consider these questions replied to

Well it seems China is moving according to the friedfish source
Shares it with the AM thread don't think this was mentioned yet
Key point:
1. ASICMINER plans to deploy 800T~1000T this year.
2. Specs for generation II chips will only be available after encapsulation. Earliest possible mass production would be in October.

Where was this news garnered from? Is is fresh news from the freshcat?

Fees?
Now about 1-3 btc per block.
We need to have 10 times more to get decent reward from block.

Now userbase of bitcoin is falling like knife.

What should happen to reverse this trend?

Time.  Bitcoin is better money then current money.  Eventually more and more people will use it because it will save them money.  As time goes on also, volatility should go down, which would also bring people in.

The recent developments into the implementation of micropayment systems has in it the capacity to change internet content monitization in a positive direction forever (no need to run adds, people can pay .00001 bitcoin per article and your page views could earn you a direct living wage).  If you do not think there will be widespread adoption of bitcoin, why are you here?  If you do think there will be widespread adoption... you have to realize there will be an increase in paid fees.  More fees paid = happy miners.  I don't have the know how to set up my own massive mining operation, so I invest.

Exciting news from china!  We really need translators... I am sure if you post a translation (not google translate.. come on) and offer a donation address... you will get donations.  I for one will donate!

how was asicminer.bit not already taken...
because namecoin is a joke

Why is that? I'm far from an expert on the subject but to me it seems like an absolutely brilliant and innovative use of a block chain, and the only existing alternative to the ICANN monopoly. Not a rival to BTC certainly, but I don't think it was ever intended to be one

There have been many "alternate namespaces" launched in last 20 years, all relying on plug-ins or ISP co-operation. All have failed, because the "domains" don't propagate worldwide. They only work on specific devices at specific locations. That is not what you want with a domain name. You want it guaranteed to work all over the world on every device that connects to the Net. That is what ICANN does, along with IANA, IETF etc.

There are going to be hundreds (thousands actually) of new domains coming online in the next few years via ICANN.

If you want to launch a .bit site please do, just understand that most people in the world won't ever be able to access it.

Namecoin is brilliant idea, but it needs widespread adoption even more than Bitcoin does. Sad

I remember a while back slushes pool mined namecoins but forget what the major benefits are
