how was asicminer.bit not already taken...
because namecoin is a joke

Why is that? I'm far from an expert on the subject but to me it seems like an absolutely brilliant and innovative use of a block chain, and the only existing alternative to the ICANN monopoly. Not a rival to BTC certainly, but I don't think it was ever intended to be one

Fees?
Now about 1-3 btc per block.
We need to have 10 times more to get decent reward from block.

Now userbase of bitcoin is falling like knife.

What should happen to reverse this trend?

Happy to contribute to all your dividends.  As shareholders, you'll be happy to know that BTC Guild's initial stock (1,000 USB Block Erupters ordered, 800 available to public sales) sold out in under 40 minutes, and already has over 200 units on backorder.

People must want these as novelty items. I don't get it. 40 minutes???

They are just too sexy to resist. A triumph of form over function  Wink

That and 100 years from now it will make a sweet museum piece  Wink

That and the price - 1B is definitely the "sweet spot" for a USB stick. They should keep this price for all future USB sticks, just up the performance. Who hasn't got 1B to spare? Smiley

Yes, but... 800, 1B each, in 40 minutes? That's roughly $75,000. On USB sticks. In 40 minutes.

I do understand the novelty aspect, but that kind of sales rate sounds a lot more like the way things sell when people expect to make money off of them. And they won't off of these...

This surprises you? With all the hype surrounding ASICs, these are the only ones actually available right now.

As to your comment about these not making money... that's just like, your opinion man. At the current rate they will earn .25 BTC/month, and even if the difficulty increases by a factor of ten, they will still be making 0.025BTC/month. It's pretty hard to say that they will NEVER make a profit... perhaps a more accurate way of phrasing that is that you don't THINK they will make a profit... or that they won't make a profit as quickly as you'd like.

How about "they don't make a profit in a way that appears more attractive than going to a casino"?  Wink

But, yes... it is my opinion. A lot of people apparently do not share it.

Why do people think mining wont be worth it... FEES PEOPLE!!!  If bitcoin gains serious adoption FEES will be the main way miners make money, not block reward.  Sure if you only calculate block reward, you may never earn back your full one BTC.  But if fees come into play...

Whatever happens, I got burned before turning off my miners twice, I thought I was pouring electricity down the drain.  Never again, my miners will stay on 24/7/365.25 for as long as I am able to manage them.  The only time I would get rid of miners, is if I was upgrading to better ones.

how was asicminer.bit not already taken... I need to become a domain squatter!

Because .bit isn't an ICANN domain name i.e. it doesn't sit in their root servers.

So you need a plug-in to access it.

Not really what you want for a company site ....
Until ICANN, Gets a take down notice and you face terrorism or money laundering charges.

Repeat: .bit has *nothing* to do with ICANN. Completely outside their system. Its just a browser plug-in "domain".

Now, just for a moment, imagine that ASICMINER had a top-notch retail website.

I registered asicminer.bit using namecoin yesterday.

If friedcat provides a namecoin address I'd be happy to transfer it to him (gratis).
