Hello All.

I found this thread really useful while getting my rig up and running - apart from the guys that dont RTFM clogging up the thread! Smiley

In order to help people out who are looking to use both Nvidia and AMD cards, I have been trying different configurations and noting down if they work or not. Below you will see my findings so far. Hopefully this is helpful to people wishing to do the same.

Using the final (6 x 1060, 6 x 580) configuration my rig has run for about 12hrs without any issues.
Hashrates will of course depend on OC (Nvidia) OC + BIOS Mod (AMD), so I will save this info for another post.

Note that before running HiveOS, I attempted to boot to xUbuntu and Linut Mint but had lots of lock-up issues with the Xserver was starting.

Rig Specs:

Asus B250 Mining Expert
4GB RAM
Pentium i3 7100
HiveOS v0.5-32
Nvidia Asus GTX 1060 6GB Strix OC
AMD MSI Rx580 Armor 8GB OC
Risers all powered v008S

Key:

N = Nvidia Card
A = AMD Card
- = No slot (just one PCIe x 16)
x = Empty Slot

Slot Map:

A01 A02 A03
PCIEx16_A1
A04 A05 A06
B07 B08 B09
B10 B11 B12

13 is a hard-coded limit in the BIOS of this MB for use with "non-mining" type cards.
I've never figured out WHY the limit exists though, as I can't see any reason for it.

I changed my mind about MY board though - it just got rebuilt into a 7-card (though some are SMALL OLDER cards, 1050 and a pair of 950) "high power slot" rig for my Mark 2 shelf/rack design.
Was going to use one of my EVGA G2 1300 to power it, but I ran out of molex chains to run risers with so I ended up having to use one of my Seasonic X1250 instead.

Guys, your OS (Windows, Linux, whatever) is recognizing the integrated graphics from CPU without monitor plugged in? If yes, what is your settings?
I tried with Strandby render Enable/Disable but cant see it, only when i plug the monitor in.
Its strage, because when i remotely connect to the rig then the first mining card is using for that and the remote connection is slow/hash-rate is dropping.

Thanks.

Recognized on one rig but not the two other. Dont know whats causing it. Will get the dummy plug soon.

Same bios on all 3?

Which version riser are you using? I use strictly 006c ver and oddly have never even gotten a bad one, yet.

I also use the 006c version, everything is stable with them once they are connected properly. I have a bunch of 008s available now so i can test them once i get more GPU.
The issue with those 008s is that the USB connector is pointing in the wrong direction for a B250.

There are 008 risers with straight-out type connectors, but they DO seem to prefer those right-angle things that don't work in most of the slots on this MB.
I've had fewer issues with 008 risers to date than 006c, but my sample size on both sides is pretty small.

Getting the integrated iGPU on an Intel APU to work with anything else under LINUX - forget it, the drivers don't play together.
Under Windows, it's trivial-easy - but I always have a monitor plugged in, or a KVM switch, to that connector.

Perhaps try putting a dummy plug on the connector for remote access use?

Using amd 18.2.3 driver (newest beta).
Using 006c risers. GPU and riser share the same cable - 8pin to 8pin/6+2pin (8pin to gpu and 6+2 on riser)
Can you tell me what GPU you use and what hashrate coz this drives drop the hashrate  not  like block chain

13 amd radeon 570 8gb.
Hashing 30.9 eth

Asus have announced this monster of a MB. Although current Drivers in Windows only allow 8 Cards but Linux would allow more.
Looks Awesome! Love the Triple ATX PSU support!

When we do not have to mix cards, these motherboards will really shine. It is a tuning/driver nightmare for me when I have to mix cards.

I am using a 16GB kingston USB3.0 stick with Hive OS on it and it works great.
The 3 molexes on the MB are not connected, I have powered risers (2 per cable coming from the PSU).

Risers are something fishy, sometimes have to switch either cables or power them from another PSU until everything runs fine.
If they have an issue with power the MB shows multiple slots in red, its just figuring out which one to change PSU then and everything is green again.

Which version riser are you using? I use strictly 006c ver and oddly have never even gotten a bad one, yet.  I strictly use 120gb ssd, they are $48. I run win 10 Pro, updated to 1709 and Asus bios ver 1001.  The 3 molexes are NOT connected on my m/b.  I have two sticks of 4gb memory pc2133.  Intel G3920 Cpu on Rig1 m/b and G3930 Cpu on Rig2.

I also use the 006c version, everything is stable with them once they are connected properly. I have a bunch of 008s available now so i can test them once i get more GPU.
The issue with those 008s is that the USB connector is pointing in the wrong direction for a B250.
I run with 1 piece of Kingston 4gb DDR4 memory and G3900 CPU.

My board has never seen Windows.

I believe that you mentioned that you're using Xubuntu 14.04. How come you choose that version of Linux? Do you just like it or is it somehow better than Ubuntu or other distros?

I'm running asus B250, Ubuntu 16.04, two 1070tis and I'm testing with a RX580, NVidia 390.25 driver, AMD 17.50-511655 driver. ethminer sees the 1070tis and RX580 but I can't get ethminer to mine 1070tis with cuda and mine with the RX580 with opencl. It will mine with 1070tis with cuda all day long Smiley

Are you using an old NVidia driver that somehow doesn't conflict with the RX580? Or do you think this is an OS issue / ethminer issue?

Thanks.

XFCE window manager is the main difference from "base" Ubuntu - much easier to work with, MUCH lower overhead than that evil "Trinity" standard Ubuntu window manager (which even Canonical has said that Ubuntu is giving up on or recently MOVED to something else) and makes autostarting programs at boot-up VERY easy.
I won't say "Trinity" was the worst window manager I ever suffered through - but only the UNUSABLE INTERFACE in Windows 8 was noticeably worse.

I don't run mixed rigs any more - flat out does not WORK with anything semi-current on Nvidia drivers (somewhere in the 350 or 360 range seems to be where the "no-opengl-files" option STOPPED WORKING) under LINUX, so you HAVE to run Windows to make it work at all.

Since the board doesn't fit well into the "rack/shelf" infrastructure I'm building up, I'm probably going to end up selling it off sometime semi-soon, when all of the cards that are currently in it get moved to other "standard" riser rigs.

If AMD only setup, then ethos else simplemining. Do you have time and patience? then install centos7/ubuntu and compile the miners yourself (thats what i do).
I stay away from windows mostly because i am comfortable with linux. Note, you will see a drop of about .5mhz - 1mhz in linux (claymore). But i think you can ignore that.

Have you been able to get centos7/ubuntu to work with a mix of Nvidia and AMD cards with the B250?
