The main problem of many tokens of different startups is that tokens are not actively used on the platforms of the projects. Usually tokens used only for speculations.

The price of altcoins depends from the price of Bitcoins because Betcoins dominance now is about 69%, but many experts thing that Bitcoin dominance is even bigger.
It is necessary that the blockchain projects would be used in real life and would be helpful for people. In such case the price of the tokens will not depends to much from the price of Bitcoin and conditions of cryptocurrency industry.

or at least with a few exchanges to help the private selling process
As long as if they don't manage to get partnered with some reputable exchange it is impossible to raise the fund, they should completely focus on their promotional activity in order to get more exposure for the project.
