I am having the exact same issue.  I bought my own Pi3 and flashed with Etcher.

Your fix was just a reflash?

Does anyone know where you can find replacement  AUC3 I2C 5PIN Cable for the 741. Or even an option that would be a little longer?

I have the top two they work.

use the colored ones

make sure the same  color is on the left  on both units

Thanks now that I see them I remember you looking into these before.

looking forward to seeing what the A8 can do. i noticed they had a teaser for it on the blok forge home page: https://www.blokforge.com/

PS does anyone set a custom range for their fan speed % on the 741? Thinking I may be able to tweak mine just a tad lower.

I'm also looking forward to seeing what the A8 can do.
I just missed the last batch of S9's but perhaps that could end up working in my favour. Smiley

I've been trying to purchase an Avalon 741, but as it is out of stock pretty much everywhere I made in order from Amazon where it is temporarily out of stock and won't charge me until it ships, whenever that may be.  I was looking on Alibaba though, and I found some going for around $1,000, which is quite a good deal it seems even after expensive shipping from China.  My question is, has anyone had any experience ordering one of these on Alibaba before?  I know there can be scams there, but the vendors I was looking at accept credit cards.  I assume that if I got scammed I could just do a chargeback, right?  It almost seems too good to be true since they are hard to find elsewhere, which makes me a bit nervous.

I can't speak to what your credit card will do for chargebacks, better check with them. I personally try to only buy from the distributors or you can try the marketplace here on the forum. That would be a really good deal though considering the A7's went through another price increase recently. I noticed on the Canaan page they are up to 1200.
The other side of the huge increase in BTC price.

https://canaan.io/shop/

That is ridiculous. At that price it then makes ZERO sense not to just buy an S9. Even with the price increase. Bitmain hasn't raised the price of the S9 recently, so all Canaan did was make the 741 less competitive.

They have already said they were done with the 741s.  Maybe this is pricing for the new A8 and they just updated pricing early...  Hope so- otherwise you are right, not worth it.

Thanks for the replies! Very grateful for a responsive community like this one.

Brought my 741 down to -2 and still seeing great performance at 7+th/s hashrates. It is way quieter too!

Greetings folks, pretty new here. I just got my avalon 741 over the weekend and am running 2 corsair 650w psu's with no issues...very impressed with ease of setup. I do have a few questions

- Does anyone run their miner without an ethernet hardlined to the router and rely solely on the pi3's wifi? Would give me some flexibility with where my miner sits
- Curious what kind of hashrates you guys are seeing underclocked at -2? I wouldn't mind running mine a little slower for a quieter room.
- Everyone here mostly mining Bitcoin core? I am currently mining on slushpool but have been looking at BTC.com as well for BCH.

Thanks!

My advice...  Don't leave Slush.  They do the morale thing and mine the real bitcoin.  Also, yes, I run Avalon 741's using a PI with CgMiner on it.  My PI is plugged into a powerline adapter.  For 5 miners, I was getting between 36TH/S and 36.5TH/S and I was running at "-2".  Personally, I believe you are not gaining much by NOT running at "-2".  Your just using more power for very little gain, plus the fans are louder and heat is higher.  I would recommend always running on -2.

Just for comparison, every one of my 741s run around 7.3 TH/s at -2.

At +1, I get, on average, an additional 1 TH/s on each miner.

At 0, I get about an additional 800GH/s on each miner.

With adequate cooling, and BTC/difficulty ratio as it is, it's well worth it IMHO.

The Image on the SD card was bad. Looks like it was incomplete. I took another SD card and imaged it with the newest controller firmware and it looks like it is working now. Not sure that is a good sign for a new unit.

You were not the only one.  When I looked into it, mine was reporting that the file system was mounted read only (and thus wouldn't save changes).  In my case, I had edited /etc/config/network (to reconfigure as DHCP), /etc/config/cgminer (for pools), and a couple other things on the card from my desktop before installing it into the Pi.  It ran perfectly but I couldn't save any changes because of the messed up mounting.  I've gotten away with those edits before (editing /etc/config/network for DHCP prior to first boot being especially useful), but I assume it was my own meddling that messed it up this time-- or maybe it is just coincidence and I also had a bad image.

Cool. At least it wasn't a return of the unflashed AUC converter issue.

Yeah, I was beginning to think it was something but I figured I'd flash one of my SD cards and give it a go.

For a start, set and try to save the user/pool info before changing the IP address. Personally I have an old ThinkPad set to the default Avalon address range and use that to set then up. Once user/pool info are saved/applied to the miner, Then I finally change the IP. I use DHCP so when miner reboots link to the laptop is broken but when miner is plugged into my network - voli'a! Works and shows up on the Router.
