I guess after testing A8 they will be splitted in slow 761 for China and fast A8 for rest of the world.

No, if you look at the specs for both machines the A8 is using different chips.

Correct.  Steve has said that they have sold different models to Asia in the past.  I believe the 761 falls into that category.

Just got an email from Blokforge, a US distributor:

Quote
*Please be aware that the Avalon 761 is for the China market only and will not be the next generation of miner in the US.  Any changes or updates will be sent out via our newsletter and posted in our forum at BLOKFORGE.COM.

Looks like the A8 will be the next device available outside of China.  I was advised that we would have more details next week regarding pricing and specs.

Cheers.

I have a new miner, inop for two weeks with a symptom of a fan not working as it should.

Suppose its not the fan, what are the variables.

The screen shows the fan% number rising as the temp rises, but the fan does not respond.

I'm assuming the Pi sends the pwm signal to a board in the miner,.

Has anyone taken apart a 741, is there more than 1 control board inside?

Why they released 761? It is something in between 741 and A8 in terms of performance?

Assuming you could buy spare power boards from them, it might not be too bad.

You could keep a stock of 10-15% of them, and replace them as needed...  While one is getting warranty service, you swap in the spare.

Plus to be honest the failure modes of most power supplies are what - capacitor failures?

I can repair that myself.

Unfortunately not everyone can repair that.
I can wire up any outlet or circuit I need and spec out the equipment to run a miner, but if it comes to the internals I would be SOL.

The upside is any dealing I've had with them as far as warranty has been good. I also imagine they've done whatever they can to try and maintain the same quality and reliability their name is built on.

Either way I just want some hard and fast specs and timelines lol

Not sure how I feel about the integrated PSU feature...I share the same concerns of other posters here. While the performance increase could be more than worth it, what exactly happens when it breaks? I would assume we continue to enjoy the same warranty plan, but do you need to ship the entire unit back?

When I bought my 741 I purposely did not get it with the factory sorcerer PSU because 1) I wasn't sure it would work with my outlets 2) if it broke I would have to deal with the manufacturer of a nobrand chinese power supply.

Compare to buying brands like Corsair or EGVA on Amazon/Walmart where returning your lemon is just a click away.

Excited to see/hear more from Canaan! Thanks for the updates everyone

Personally, I am not a fan of the integrated PSU.  PSUs go bad- that is the nature of the beast.  Now when one craps out- the whole unit is dead vs being able to swap it out in 30 seconds.

Agreed.

Integrating the PS should reduce the cost, but not sure they'll be passing that onto us.

Not with the rise in the price of bitcoin nope...they will be "eating" those.

Oh and internal power supply could raise the heat induced failure rate.  No longer is the power supply next to the unit with it's own large heat sink (the case)...

Now all that heat produced by the PS is more exposed to the ASICs.

Makes sense. The 761 does show a higher field tested TH/S up to 9.5.

Also I see that all of their miners are rated between 50-60db. Alot less than the competition huh?

This is going to be my first miner purchase and I'm leaning towards Canaan because of reliability compared to others

Also the 761 and 8 show integrated psu so you won't have to buy new ones. Maybe they justifies higher price for 761?

Btw  the reply I got to an inquiry from Canaan was similar to the one above but said the "new product" will be limited supply until March. So so more clarification that just Q1

Possible, but they had the 741s listed at $1200 before they put the 761s up and now they're $1050. Makes me think that there is some remaining stock that they are going to release.

That is hilarious. I feel like someone is just sitting there revelling in this, waiting to post 1 smidgen of Info at a time... do I tell them the power consumption, or tease them with the first digit of the hashrate. Haha,

Just excited to see some info coming out.

EDIT: I just read through it more closely, and must say I was surprised they are integrating the PSU on these units.
Atleast there won't be 100 questions about power supplies, and 50 rebuys for a proper one

Did you also see that they posted the Avalon 761? It's an incremental improvement from the 741 (8.8TH/s @ 1350W vs. 7.3TH/s @ 1150W). I'm not sure the marginal gains would be worth buying the 761, but the primary factor will probably be availability of either. Not sure I'm interested in buying new PSUs to run two miners @ 2700W and I think having 1 PSU for every miner is an enormous waste of money and space.

I don't believe you will be able to buy any new 741s as they are EOL and it seems the 761s just replaced the 41s
