I also received my miner today, what can I use to power the controller?
Looking for a recommended pool to join with my mine, what is everyone using?

Thanks  Smiley
For power, go to your favorite shopping site and search for 'RasPi PSU', you will find tons of them, most are 5V @ 2A or more out. The Pi only needs 2A.
As for the mining pool to use - only 1 choice in my book -- Kano.is

Thanks NotFuzzyWarm, I just ordered a https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-PowerIQ-Foldable/dp/B071YMZ4LD/ref=sr_1_3?
I have a ton of good micro usb cables.
Will be using Kano for sure, really need to find time to setup everything very busy currently at work and doesn't allow me some time for the miner.
I am hoping Thursday for sure  Grin

Thanks again to both of you NotFuzzyWarm and philipma1957, you guys are awesome!

My 741 showed up today a day early and it's happily hashing away. I'm very pleased with the turnaround from Canaan. What do you guys recommend setting the voltage and fans at to keep it quieter? I have it running in my home office and the ambient room temperature is about 78.

I tested

0  higher speed of hash  fan and watts then -1                       1200 watts
-1  higher  speed of hash fan and watt then -2                       1100 watts
-2   lowest speed of hashlowest fan speed watts. are lowest.  1000  watts

if noise is key -2 is the way to go.

Placed and order for two of them, curious to see what the difference is between the two companies! Anybody got a good thread or yourtube video for the setup process? I know its slightly different that the S9 process.

did you buy the controller?

if you purchased a controller I have a setup thread in the hard ware section.

Yeah I got everything from Avalon, can you send me a link pretty please? I'm excited to diversify my hash power. I honestly haven't had a bad experience with BITMAIN equipment (maybe im lucky), but I still see value in diversifying the hardware and supporting other companies.

It is back in jan I will look for it .

As I am a crazy poster with lots and lots of them it will take time to find

Has anybody figured out how to power the controller off a PCIE connector?
You would need something like a pico psu and then a 5V USB output, doesn't pay the effort and the 5V USB wall wart is a lot cheaper solution.

Always do all communications through the ticket system. As has been posted here many times email with Canaan is more of a status update method than it is direct communication.

Do NOT go bandying the word 'scam' lightly with any vendor. Canaan has delivered far too much equipment to folks here with very few order/delivery problems for that to apply in any possible way. As I posted last Friday my latest miner came on schedule and is currently running like a champ.

Yes at times Canaan screws up communications with some folks but to date they have always fixed the order issues. All I can say is that when replying through the ticket system, attach copies of the bank transfer records. Your bank will be able to provide a pdf copy of it to you.

As for Canaan having stock, best way to get an idea is to be registered on Kano's pool and look to see what Canaan has running there. When stock is being produced you'll see several PH running there from them for about a week. While not officially confirmed I'd expect that is miner burn-in testing and yes, that is a GOOD thing to see them doing.

Thanks for your words.

In fact I have a support ticket open since 2 weeks, but there is no real conversation trough Canaan.
They sent me a screen of their incoming funds(mine is also there) but they are letting me on hold.
No communication/response trough ticket system, is for me not a good sign for customer service.
Never had payment problems with other vendors (bitmain, gekko,..) but three weeks are to long for my taste.

Greetings Smiley

Hello! How are you doing ? You answered? I was given the number of the mail-they are not in the database. They told me to "be patient". It's easy to say) If you have optimistic information, write. I do not have it yet(

From what I gathered the main reason was Canaan's then US distributor and the asshole person who they hired to run it. He was already by then a known bad-apple in the BTC 'management' world. Thankfully have forgotten the name of the company (also offered hosting) and his but was in San Fran CA area as I recall?

EDit: just found old bookmark. Company was BlockC.co

too bad.
Ya know, if Canaan ever wanted to be able to use some of the under-performing chips from their current foundry runs pretty sure Sidehack would be happy to makes sticks using them.

Canaan making chips available for that admittedly small market could help assuage some for hard feelings about the earlier fiasco over Avalon chips between Sidehack/Kilo and Canaan...

yeah  that turned out badly  and to this day I never understood why.
