ICO is an old trend to scam people nowadays especially in 2018, there are so many ICO coming in 2018 and almost of them are a scam. I feel so misfortunate to everybody who scammed by scammy ICO in 2018.
Now we are entering IEO era, you can still gain the opportunity to earn profit at this time. But, I believe sometimes IEO will be same as ICO. Just need to wait time until is come...

that in the past ICO projects performed very well if they used ERC20 tokens or projects built on established platforms. because it has the potential to grow well and reduce risk when compared to creating new technology. but now on the contrary I don't see ICO functioning properly even though it's built on an existing platform like ERC20.
I will not blame the platform because the platform has been built in such a way, but I will blame the developer, Why? because most developers have misused this for crypto schemes to get rich and most project failures are based on the background of developers who do not have extensive knowledge and deliberately tarnish the ICO project's bad image.

The reason why ICO did so well in the past was because its a whole new idea that was never available in crypto space before and it created a big HYPE for crypto world entirely due to its SUCCESS but now its no more

Scammers on the other hand kills ICO hype and turn it into untrusty source of investment for ICO investors,i as a person stop trusting ICOs and i was a victim to bitconnect scam as well which looks so real back then, you cant blame developers because not all developers are scam artists, scammers are the ones that tarnished the life of ICO

We all knew that there were people who were involved in ICO frauds and it resulted in the cryptocommunity being somewhat discouraged

to support or  invest even in brilliant and  legit projects  nowadays but we  cannot blame them alone  since those schemes were done by

capitalizing on other people's guilelessness to discern a project's legitimacy - many of whom were often blinded by the promise of generous

profits on crypto investments regardless of project's viability and potential. Also, we cannot even blame "bad developers" as stated by

the OP but actually, it is mostly the act of core team members since most scam projects don't even have real and skilled developers as

part of the team when they've started it.

That's the real picture right now, scammers have made this platform and ICO their playground, but one thing that these scenario has brought us,   investors are now wiser and now understand how these scammers work, they now know how to look on a new project, they know how to set up criteria to pick project that they believe will be here in a long term.

So many new projects are now coming into the industry because these developers thought that they can just present something and people will buy these projects because of what happen in 2017, but this is 2019 now and so many things happened and changed.

ICO on itself is a flawed concept because it is allowing anybody to raise millions of dollars without being liable to give anything in return other than the useless token they created out of thin air and without any cost.
you will never find a real project with real world application coming from a respected developer run a fund raising like that.

so it is not "bad developers" who have tarnished anything, the ICO was tarnished the day it was introduced. and your problem is that your whole argument is focusing on the return (aka the profit) that you could ever make from investing in these useless tokens not the actual product that they were supposed to give when thy were raising funds for its production!

The platform is open source with no restrictions, anyone and anybody can create their own token, scammers and legit developers, we lack good developers that can see the project from start to finish and this is one of the issues that haunt the crypto industry, abuse is the right word for this.

The idea from Token scammer is getting easy money from people, it's better because it more easier than IPO in legal way. No one can trace them, no one know who are they. Their product is idea, mvp and imagination, and most of them become fail project where no demand to use their business ecosystems.

Good product and lot of demand = AMAZING
Good product and lot of demand but not reputable team = NORMAL
Good product but less demand = worthless
Lot of demand but no product = worthless
Lot of demand but simple product = FAIR (seasonal moments / depend on trend )

We cannot blame on blockchain platform, blame on those shit who held ico

I agree with your opinion. The developer is a party who must be blamed if the platform becomes failed caused by the dev is who has full control over the platform.
But this time so many unskilled people are interesting to get the money only and then run away even some kids are talking about how to make an ICO. that sucks to see that and that's why we have the best way to believe in IEO.
So many amateur people and even scammers in these days who are interesting to use ico as money-grabber only.

The incompetence of the developers of course also has an impact, but it was the scammers who tried to earn money in this way that created a more bad reputation of the ICO. And this opinion is shared by all, judging by the comments above. So when the scammers disappear, then the ICO may again be able to regain its reputation.

It is very hard to eliminate those scammers. Greediness is human nature so with the number of people around the globe, you will not run out of these scammers. They will try and try until they can still deceive users and get something from them. They don't care if that is your hard-earned money or your life's savings. Because they really don't care at all. So long they can rip from naive users, they will not stop. Only a user can stop his loss by not investing in suspicious and fraudulent projects. Since it is too difficult to identify potential scam projects, I would say, better keep your money within your pockets and move on to a more tangible investment.

erc20 tokens became popular because at 2017/2018 many ico originating from there were getting hundreds of millions of dollars and because of this many evil developers were motivated to make trash projects or scam projects in order to expect instant money, and adverse effects because this was felt until now because there are still many other evil developers still motivated to make similar projects and are now turning to IEO or another crowdfunding method.

It's not the devs, it's the scammers that tarnished the image of ICO for investors. If the devs do it right without the thoughts of scamming people then ICO would have been a reliable form of investment until now.

At first, I thought that something built on the Erc-20 platform was a good project, but some time later there were more similar coins. this makes me confused to choose, and now only a few coins remain, such as Trx, Ven, Eos ... Many coins are neglected. I think there are many developers who only take instant advantage by using various kinds of scams. some are less creative in marketing and community development

More scam projects made the ICOs to be a scam scheme so people now completely avoiding it at any cost that is why IEO becomes new trend for funds to be raised for the new projects but stills getting faded compared to the HYIP when it was new so all the new projects are considered to be useless by the investors now.

The most erc20 ico's were trash or scams, in fact it is so easy to create a token on the eth chain and it takes just a few minutes. i would not blame only erc20 based token icos, dash, btc or whatever coin forks aren't only successful but its just a fact that it takes much more work, energy and time to make a fork of a coin with a own blockchain.
