So far it seems most people are having problems with the 64 bit test image.

If you are testing the new image and have something to report, please do it soon.

The decision on 32 or 64 bits going forward will be made soon.  So far the results are overwhelming in favor of staying with 32 bit kernel and drivers.

can the web dashboard be used like mgpumon? or is it just a luxurious version of gpumon...i mean can it keep an eye on the farm?

yes browse to http://ip-address/mgpumon

You do need to edit the mgpumon.conf so it is http =1.  You also need to start mgpumon specify the config file.

I think I've experienced a small bug in the current BAMT release. In the new statistics page cgi-bin/status.pl, it seems that the name of the GPU is derived from the host of which GPU0 is connected to, and replicated throughout all listed GPUs, regardless whether they are connected to another pool or host or if they aren't connected at all. Statistics under mgpumon don't suffer from this issue.

I have ran both. The amount of times i need redo my image on my USB key i find it easier using BAMT.

from scratch after I redo the image it takes me 10 seconds to start mining.

That's a fast boot time. Smiley

the longer you know me the better off you will get at estimating my exagerations... Cheesy

its a great skill to have! Grin

Has anyone tried both this and http://linuxcoin.co.uk/ ? thoughts?

i tried to use linuxcoin for about a week, and that's why I created bamt.

linuxcoin is a nice packaging of lots of bitcoin related software with lots of user desktop type software.  someone could stick it into a machine and use it as a regular desktop computer.

bamt is the bare minimum to get a machine booted and mining, designed to make deploying new rigs as fast as possible.  it has nothing of interest to the casual user, no user applications, etc.  using it as a desktop OS would be frustrating and silly.

i think they are complementary, not competitors.  think of linuxcoin as the desktop OS and bamt as the server OS, like winXP or win7 vs windows server.

BAMT is for mining on dedicated rigs.  Linuxcoin has lots of other stuff, like a wallet.  Depends on what you are looking for.

Is there any reason why the BAMT wrapper would shut down cgminer?

I have two rigs that just stop mining. The uptime displayed in mgpumon says the rig didn't restart so it's down to cgminer or the BAMT process.

Let me know if you need more info and I'll provide it if I can.

Thanks,
gigavps

bamt will only kill the cgminer process if you issue a mine stop or restart command.  there is nothing automatic that will cause it.

frankly I find cgminer unstable if not plain buggy.  it crashes my test machine on a regular basis.  it is hard to know whether to issue fix updates for new versions, as it seems about half the time each new version has some massive new bug that has to be fixed in yet another version.

no, it is not decided.  however, it looks more likely to go that way.  if anyone has compelling reasons to go one way or the other, time to let us know.

As I said earlier in this thread, and in BAMT thread too, I'd like to use 8 GPU's in my 19" rigs. This has got something to do with denseness factor and cost-efficiency purpose. If I can populate the last slot with a fourth 6870x2 or a 6990 or maybe even a 7990 (if it ever ships), that would max out my rigs and their overall-efficiency to a level that's acceptable.

As of now, my rigs step out at the last GPU in that way X is terminating with a segmentation fault. Since september, I didn't manage to find out where exactly the issue occurs, so I left it working with 7 GPUs. I think that it's merely a driver fault and if stepping towards a 64bit-distro helps with that issue ... I'd certainly vote for it.

I think phoenix is pretty decent as well but meh.

Any news on the v5 image ? Will it be 64bit only ?

Thanks !

Yeah, I like phoenix too.  Never have been able to get cgminer to deliver as much hash, and it seems to lock my test rig up a lot more than phoenix ever does (which is never, unless I overclock beyond sanity).  Actually I'm adding some new controls to phoenix that give it most of the features cgminer has and some unique advantages as well.

v5 test image seems to have worked well for those who have reported back.

dunno about 64bit but leaning that way.  somebody will be sad no matter which way we go, but I think probably 64 is the better of the two choices.  32 bit 0.4 could still be used for non 64 hardware (which I know some of you are using, and I used myself back when i had a farm, so trust me i don't take the switch to 64 lightly).

Hi lodcrappo,

I have finally found the time to get cgminer setup on all of my rigs. You have done some amazing work!

It is nice that:

- when one GPU dies it does not kill the entire rig.
- cgminer tries to recover sick GPUs
- auto-gpu and auto-fan work very nicely and will keep things cool
- I can down clock memory even more as cgminer seems to be able to handle mining with less memory
- cgminer can deal with multiple pools at once, no more waiting for a couple minutes to see if the pool comes back before failing over

I cannot thank you enough for putting BAMT and cgminer together. This really is the killer mining combo.

It looks like my original bounty for the integration of cgminer was 30 BTC.

I have also added a days worth of mining earnings for everything you have been doing.

To everyone who posted a bounty: Please pay lodcrappo the bounty you put up!

I would also like to recommend to everyone using BAMT that you donate 1 day of mining earnings for all of the hard work lodcrappo has done and will continue to do on BAMT.

Thanks again lodcrappo. You rock!  Grin

thanks! i really appreciate the btc.  very generous

there are more good things coming..

yea, same thing happen to me.  I was remotely  changing miner_id's and notice
The website showed each node with ID name. Only way to clean it up was to go
outside to my Host pc and reset Mgpumon.

if you had an option like do_mgpumon: 1
it load terminal window at startup with website config file.

U have it where it can load gpumon in bamt.conf
how / were can i change it to do mgpumon instead.

thanks,
jay
