It's a sad story...I don't know how it is now, but before telegram gave you the opportunity to attach mail to your account. Is there perhaps a way to restore access via email?
The email they allow you to attach to your Telegram account is not a means to recover the account from ban, but it's an easy means to recover the account if it's been hacked by someone else. Let's say someone gained access to your telegram without your knowledge, or you set a password on your telegram and forgot the security password.

You can use the email to request recovery of the account and password resetting. It's just for security measures from outside intruders and not from Telegram itself, and the email they use in replying with such a request is the email that doesn't accept replies from senders.

In my opinion, you need to use the software for its intended purpose without cluttering it with unnecessary functions. I mean that the Telegram program itself is intended for communication; initially, it was the most common communication between people. After groups appeared, now it is possible to add wallets. Telegram looks like a New Year tree, which is hung with different buns. At the same time, we regularly see various scams from Telegram groups and, of course, sudden blocking for actions that are incomprehensible to the owners themselves. By the way, Telegram can be hacked very easily; if you follow the links sent to you, one day you can become a victim of hacking, which once again proves that storing money separately is very smart and safe. There is no need to mix everything. Multifunctionality is only useful in the kitchen.
This is exactly the case, that the best program is a highly specialized program (performing one single function). If you want a good crypto wallet, use something like electrum, not a telegram wallet. I don't like it when apps are turned into multi-tools that can't properly perform the original function. As can be seen from OP’s story, the convenience provided by combines, like telegram, is fraught with unpleasant consequences. I would generally avoid these types of (custodial and centralized) wallets.

There is one more point. The more services are tied to one program, the more painful the failure of this app is (for example, loss of access to a telegram account). It is necessary to follow diversification (by purpose): instant messengers for communication, and separate wallets for storing and using cryptocurrencies (2 different purposes).

That option is only possible if he already registered an e-mail, but it's unclear if they can recover that if the phone number is banned. I find no explanation on their support page and the chance is likely slim[1]. CMIIW. At the end of the day, shouldn't have used a wallet like this to store money regardless of how popular the app is. Hopefully, OP's friend will learn the lesson and use better wallets for the future.

I never believed that people can be so careless to use give their money to a social media platform like Telegram. I have to use this strong language because I feel bad at how people follow trends ignoring all safety measures. I knew when the Telegram Premium came on board with many features including this wallet. But I was never moved by the wallet aspect because I have always had in mind that "not your keys, not your coins". Anything that does not give me control over my coins is definitely a no no for me.

Telegram accounts can get banned for violating the app’s terms of service, including spamming, sharing illegal content, or engaging in malicious activities.
I believe it's more than that, if you pay someone who can create bunch telegram accounts and ask him to create mass reports to that account, I won't be surprised your friends account might got banned even though your friends did nothing. This is normal to someone who're popular or have something, other people are jealous with their achievements.

Well, if this is the case then Telegram has no standard of operation. Why would they ban a user just because multiple people reported the account without doing their own investigations? They ban my account for policy violations which I don't remember engaging that account with malicious activities. Perhaps, this is the reason for my ban.

Good reminder, @knowngunman

After seeing how leniently Telegram handles Spam and Scam on their platform, I would stay away from entrusting them any amount of coins (even shitcoins  Cheesy).
Maybe you can still enlarge your picture, it's very small currently.

And hopefully funds can be recovered. Telegram should be able to access it.
Any way, it's really a big warning to avoid storing coins on Telegram-

People derived happiness from experimenting what will eventually harm them. Users feedback about Telegram is enough reason to stay away from them. Even mere engagement is not considered secure talk more of storing your assets with them but yeah we are human, unless we fall victim before we learn. I have already told him to move on while he continues making efforts to recover the funds thou I doubt the possibility.

Noted, I will edit again to fit in. Thank you.

Have you tried to contact telegram to get the coins back and I am sure that they can access it. Anyway, did you ask your friend if there is a backup of the wallet?. I am sure your friend did see something after creating the wallet that says backup wallet by email and manually. If he did either of it then I think your friend can access the coins. I would say that other forum said that your friend did not backup his wallet after creating it even though he sees the warning about creating a wallet.

He has no back up for the wallet. I don't know how there back up system works but I try it yesterday after this post to see how the wallet looks like but I did not see anything like back up after creating the wallet. Perhaps, they have back up but manually export type. People might be easily carried away without a reminder to keep their back up safe.
It seems we may have to really start settling to reading and scrutinizing the terms and agreement conditions of many of these online apps pretending to upgrade and innovate, without proper customer care representatives or contact that is responsive.

I thought it was a bad idea when I started seeing most browser apps and social media apps include crypto wallets in their upgrades.
I never want to store my funds in any  app that isn't related to the Blockchain technology activities or perform full exchange wallet functions, mostly when they have no secure key phrases to retrieve the wallet and I would till tomorrow advice against it.

I like Toncoin but running the wallet on Telegram pissed me off so I let go of this project, its not a bad one at all but telegram is a bad choice for everything, I have never like it and nothing will change that.

Its not just Telegram only, be careful with crypto wallets on Opera browser too, and I see that a few other browsers are also adding crypto wallets too, they are not Trezor, and they are not Metamask, so be extremely careful with the crypto wallet that you choose to use.

I will advise to use the norm wallets that we are all used to, Trust wallet and Metamask for those who can't afford a hardware wallet, and Trezor with other open source hardware wallets are best choices.

You must have enemies to receive attacks and get your account ban. Attacks from mass reports is one of reasons but it is barely and I don't believe government stays behind it.

Common bans can be scam. I know a Telegram account can be banned if massive reports on it sent to Telegram and maybe they will have to investigate before ban that account. They will not base on report numbers and ban one Telegram account.

For fake attacks, if appeal is accepted, I wonder will accounts of attackers will receive bans after Telegram investigation.

I have lost access to a few of my old telegram accounts due to the sim going bad or blocked and this means that everything related to that number is gone as well, this is why I hate using my phone number for any account creation, it's always best to use an email address and since Telegram will force phone number on users as the only means of registration then it's a big red flag.

If anything happens to that number, everything bad will happen to the accounts you used the phone number to create.

It's even more crazy now to store your digital coins and tokens on any crypto wallet that relies on your phone number to access, c'mon, that's straight-up stupid, do not use your phone number to create anything online.

Apart from losing the phone number you can be targeted by sim swap attacks too.

That sucks, I know that Telegram is trying to innovate and having some wallets on it is part of their plan. But knowing that they've been swarmed by scammers, and the customer service that they have is quite hard to reach. It's best to just use them as is being a messaging app. We've seen casinos building their platform on its own platform and it's not really appealling at all. Now, with vast projects that have been using them as a medium of communication to their users, I think this is the first time that I've seen someone who used them as a wallet and then the user's number got blocked by itself. Keep on appealling and contacting Telegram because if they're the one who blocked him, they are the only one who can unblock him as well.

I don't know how the Telegram wallet works and i don't care to know because it is not an option for me to store any coins. Telegram is one platform with so much cases of scam and fraud, and that alone is enough reason not to use it to keep any of your money. Even if you want to store shitcoins, there are better wallets to use, wallets that are non-custodial and open source like Unstoppable wallet, then there are others like trust wallet that are not open source, but a better option for shitcoins than telegram wallet.

This very morning, a colleague in one of our platform brought a telegram related issue to platform seeking for help. He created a wallet on the app and store some funds there but unfortunately Telegram banned his number from accessing their services and that means automatic lose of funds. I don't know if there's a faster way to appeal for unban but I also have the same issue for over a year now and effort to unban the number prove abortive.
I believe it's not something new that the idea of using a custodial wallet is a naive decision not to talk about using Telegram's built-in wallet despite the platform being deemed as a paradise for scammers.
This is 2024 and every crypto enthusiast should always think/examine the cons of a wallet before using it.
I have never seen a telegram account unban before so the chance of getting the crypto in the wallet back is not guaranteed but there's nothing bad in trying so therefore contact telegram support through email [email protected] or Twitter @smstelegram.

I wasn't aware that Telegram has wallet. But it would be one of last places where I would keep my crypto. In general, Telegram probably is the most scammy social media app.
I hope that issue will get resolved somehow, but it will be good lesson.

In Spain, a court has recently banned Telegram groups, and the wallets are also questioned. The court's sentence has been provisionally suspended because it can violate fundamental rights, but I wouldn't rely on the mentioned services either, just in case: Spain has been the first case in the world, but who knows how can it could end in other places too.
Telegram was banned because of piracy on this platform, it's not related with scams. But now ban was suspended by other court. Spain aren't first country in the world who tried to ban Telegram. Russia tried to do it previously, but failed. Blocking Telegram isn't same like blocking one random website.

Who's sain person will store they money on telegram, with the level of insecurity and scams that exists on telegram I don't believe anyone could still trust any third party wallet being run on telegram, unless is the coin only existed on such wallet and as matter of fact, I will avoid any coin that is being held only via telegram wallet.

Don't do any serious deal on telegram other than just means of communication with other and if you don't even know the user you have to avoid talking to the to stay clear a d safe from telegram scams.

So even if the OP’s friends has gotten is number banned, with a private key back up he can get access to that wallet again and then move out the funds to a more proper wallet, which should have been the case from starting

That's what I thought too and I think his friend did not backup his wallet. Telegram wallet has 2 backup methods, the email backup which is an online backup and the manual backup which involves writing down the seed phrase. If his friend was able to backup his seed phrase manually, he can easily import it into a TON wallet. I guess he did not and sadly this is the price he has to pay for his ignorance.

I don't know that people can create a non custodial wallet with Telegram or it is all custodial. This article shows Telegram Wallet Bot is custodial.

Hreow to use Telegram wallet.re

There are other wallets, not Telegram Wallet Bot, and give non custodial controls. Your friend made bad decision to choose Telegram Wallet Bot.

Is ban on Telegram with a phone number common?

Why do Telegram Accounts Get Banned?
Quote
Telegram accounts can get banned for violating the app’s terms of service, including spamming, sharing illegal content, or engaging in malicious activities.

Illegal stuff happening in Telegram that's why there are accounts banned, even channels off the terrorist are in telegram and also porn but I don't see the point of banning users only. What they should be banning are the creators of those channels and those users selling illegal stuff.

I tried depositing TRON USDT there, it seems like this is the only stablecoin they accept in Telegram wallet and it works well when you are just playing around. Do these Is it safer to use the wallet bot? casinos prefer users to use the Telegram wallet than using the Tonkeeper wallet?

I believe that TONcoin is only available in the Telegram wallet and that there are no other exchanges that provide functionality for trading this particular coin.

They are actually quite number of wallets that one can store TONcoin the most popular is the Metamask wallet which is open source and self custodial, while closed sources like Trust wallet, imtoken and even its own custom wallet outside the telegram is there. Some users just choose to do things that are actually strange in terms of securing their funds.

But hey it wouldn't surprise me that Nigeria of all places has their phone numbers banned, because of their government's hostility towards cryptocurrency in general.

Most of this ban aren’t related to the government hostility to cryptocurrencies but mostly by the telegram its self. Most of the users that usually get banned are those that farm airdrops and they start spamming different kind of groups or channels with their contents and most of them get reported and then get banned.

I have experience using (Telegram-Wallet) at the beginning of my journey in crypto, It's your friend are not exporting the private-key or wallet they're using. Even the service provider you are using telegram, I still remember the wallet usually created by their official project is always have option to export the wallet or at least a backup for the wallet they're using.

All contains your wallet address, none of backup are crazy mate.

I actually agree with you, I was myself although I didn’t used it check out a telegram wallet user interface. The wallet in question was BONKbot which is use to buy, store and sell Solana network based coins. I actually explored the wallet when I saw the report about something of a phishing attack on it and I hit the link and it generated an address for me and also exported out my private key which it stated that I can use on wallet like Solfare. So even if the OP’s friends has gotten is number banned, with a private key back up he can get access to that wallet again and then move out the funds to a more proper wallet, which should have been the case from starting
