no i disagree with what you say. I am more amenable to waves, because waves have almost the same technology. only, eth is more popular and more often used for ico wallet. both have smart contracts.

NEO or XLM could catch ETH too - they can be really good basement for ICOs and exchanges. 2018 is year of ICOs and whose platform will be the strongest we will see.

It seems to me that the most promising coins at the moment are NEO, Tron and Omni. They have prospects, but so far the situation on the market is very tense.

I think that ETH is now very weak and therefore the competitors have a good chance to defeat him. It seems to me that EOS is the strongest competitor for Ether now.

currently i would say that NEO is turning to another big contender for both Ethereum and Bitcoin due to the overwhelming support they are getting from the people.

Yes, there are no competitors, everyone who shouts that they are competitors, these are just clowns who can never do anything, especially to get ahead of such a giant as Ethereum, soon Ethereum will reach a new level and nobody will be ahead of it.

I'm with Waves as well. They recently implemented their smart contracts and they have a wallet/platform and exchange all together in one user friendly desktop app. Recently reached 500tps on their mainnet while EOS/eth can achieve max 25 tps. They lack stupid shills though so they didn't get the attention they deserve. Seriously i doubt anything else is a serious competitor to eth than Waves.
Also they keep progressing really fast adding usability like the latest chrome extension that manages your keys. Lots of airdrops for wave holders too.
Waves is really moving underground for the time being without too much exposure and marketing so the blast will be huge once people realize this is what crypto meant to be.

Cardano, Bitshares and NEO can be considered as direct competitor of ETH, a a platform.
Each of these have unique characteristics, which no other has..

CARDANO and NEO is the best competitor as I know. Other coins and all will not works that like ethereum. People widely choosing the NEO as their platform to create new coin nowadays. Personally I do not like this smart contract implemention and creating new coin all the time. Because I see many attempt has been done in the forum also. Once people invested on token sale then they leave without any information to the investors, some cheap dev team members helping them for money. In price wise Dash and Dodge are competitor for ethereum.

You guys should check the progress waves is doing. I'm following development and have to admit Sasha Ivanov has a clear and promising plan for this platform. Even as it is now it belongs in the top 15 cryptocurrencies.

Which are the best competitors to Ethereum, and why do you think so?

(I know on top of my head that Cardano and IOTA try to challenge Ethereum,
although they still haven't proved much from my understanding?)

I think the only good competitor is now eos, eos has a great future and the coin is much more promising for investors

I think that Ethereum is NEO and EOS worthy competitors. Because these coins have taken a good and fast course to raise. Adequate competition is always good. This creates stable and strong coins in the market.

I know that you can use several programming languages, but besides of this, what do NEO bring to the table?

Everyone one will answer your question with so many different coins. But if i am to tell my opinion, it will be Ethereum itself. Ethereum though is the best altcoin till date but still it has some flaws that is not letting it being the best cryptocurrency by overtaking Bitcoin.

I think one of the most serious competitors is the EOS cryptocurrency.About the prospects of the EOS cryptocurrency says its mechanism, which is capable of processing hundreds of thousands of transactions per second, and given the current problems of the crypto-currency sphere in this aspect, this advantage is even more visible. At the moment, we can not evaluate all the advantages of this project, as it has not yet been launched. The launch of the working version of EOS will take place in 2018, or rather in the second half, and if the developers fulfill all their plans, we will be able to see another competitor to The Ethereum cryptocurrency.

EOS is pretty good, so I consider it to be the main competion. In the same time, I am not sure about ability of EOS to hold longterm competition.

Should I sell a crypto now?

I think you asked your question in the wrong branch. No one will give you a clear answer to it, you will have to find the answer yourself, and also make the decision yourself. Blindly follow someone else's advice straight to nowhere.
As for competitors, I doubt that in such a market one of the competitors will be able to stand as a candidate to replace the ether.
