Does anyone know how the BTC to Gold services work? Do they go just change the coins thru Mt.Gox and buy the stuff from local gold vendors and sell it to you?

This could also be used as a better method for distribution of Bitcoin Magazine, for example.

I'm in the early development stages of a project, and I'm looking to introduce the concept for thoughts on its merit and marketability, people's wishlists in regards to features, etc.

The idea is basically, DHL / Fedex / UPS etc. but paid for in bitcoin and potential anonymity if needed, or full verification if needed, and tracking for anyone. The thought occurred to me when I recently had the need to send some papers to Japan, and it cost $60 at Fedex to sent a couple ounces of papers (like, 20 standard pages) from Houston to Tokyo. Other places can be substantially more, and this was the CHEAP option.

My thinking is that, with the right math and less overhead, this could be waaayy more efficient, at least after it reaches a sufficient size. I'm a math major, so we'll see.

Possible titles are Planet Express, as kind of a wisecrack to being the small guy in comparison to the aforementioned delivery giants ala Futurama and Mom Corp.  Grin

I am an attorney currently working as an anti-money-laundering investigator for one of the world's largest banks. The decentralized nature of Bitcoin is raising serious AML concers within the banking system.

Bitcoin lacks a centralized entity making it incapable of conducting due diligence, monitoring and reporting of suspicious activity, running an AML compliance program, or accepting and processing legal requests like subpoenas.

Despite the above-mentioned risks and cocens of my employer and my employer's regulaotrs, I strongly believe in Bitcoin. I believe it has the potential to completely transform the global monetary system. I am here to help in any way that I can.

Money Service businesses (MSBs) are a type of financial institution under the law.

A business is an MSB if it offers one or more of the following services:

Money orders
Traveler’s checks
Check cashing
Currency dealing or exchange
Stored value
Provides Money Transmission Services.

“Money Transmission Service” means the acceptance of currency, funds, or other value that substitutes for currency from one person and the transmission of currency, funds, or other value that substitutes for currency to another location or person by any means.
(Revised July 2011 by FinCEN).

MSB regulations currently “apply to persons engaged in above-specified activities that exceed $1,000 for any person in any day,” with the exception of money transmitters, which do not have an activity threshold.

A Principal MSB must register with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and maintain certain records regarding its Agent and/or foreign counterparty relationships.

Subject to regulatory oversight by the IRS and various state banking departments and must comply with the Bank Secrecy Act as well as various state laws and regulations.

Hello,

I'm very interested in bitcoins. It seems the perfect alternative to fiat currency in my opinion.
I'm a webdeveloper (backend + frontend) with 6+ years experience looking to offer my services.

For me using bitcoins would be perfect as I don't want to start a company just yet.
And most wouldbe employers (in Belgium) require freelancers to have a vat number for taxes.
This would require me to find a accountant and don't want all that administration just yet.

Im 26, live in Belgium and I'm quite skilled at my job.
Since I cannot present a portfolio of my work, I would be very reasonable in regard to pricing.
However I will not work for India/China prices Wink

I'm also interested in working together on some bitcoin related project..

Looking forward to serious replies

Hello,
This is David from the original Alpaca Socks for Bitcoin site!  I've just finished automating our site to automate the order process.
While still clunky, hopefully this is a simpler, faster, and more transparent process than our original email-based ordering process. I'd like feedback from others who are accepting bitcoins on their website for physical goods. I'd like to offer more products, but haven't exactly figured out a simple and efficient bitcoin payment interface that allows for a large catalog of goods and doesn't require me being a programmer.

I love bitcoins and it's been great to watch it grow up over the last 2 years!

Not in desperate need of whitelisting, I can probably wait to acquire my 4 hours forum time - this forum is sickeningly addictive after all! Just thought i'd introduce myself and up my post count...

Recent masters graduate in computer science, 27 years old, experienced c/c++/Java developer, currently working on mobile and web applications, with a particular focus on Qt.

My reason for finally registering is to try and track down some local developers in order to launch a bitcoin oriented startup.

I am interested in starting a charter school. I want to combine a charter school with a coffee shop. In Wisconsin it's legal and possible. I would have like to have the kids run the coffee shop under the guidance of teachers and businessman and woman The goals of the school would be to vocational skills, entrepreneurial skills and an appropriate public education. I really need to find a funding source to staff the planning committee. Charters school can be ran for profit to Wisconsin. I believe I could provide a decent return in anywhere from 2 -5 years.  Or donations would be welcome to.  I would like to be white listed.
