Welcome follow aussie, i am in Melbourne and have been using bitcoin here dor over 2 years now.
Some of your questions depend on what it is you want to do with your bitcoins once you get them.
First off to purchase bitcoin we have many good companies to do that through, Coinjar would be my number 1 pick as they have great customer support when needed and have always been a solid player within the Australian bitcoin community.
I know some people will say stay away from them due to one of it founding members being linked to the bitconica fiasco but as long as you dont store coins on the site you will be safe.
If you are currently working then the best way to get some coins each payday would be to sign up at
https://www.getpaidinbitcoin.com.au and have a portion of your wage sent directly to them and they will convert it to bitcoin for just a $1 fee, they are still in beta so if interested PM me and i can put you onto the members that run it and let you know my experiences with them.
I have used the company for almost 6 months now with never a problem.
