It would have been better said that an altcoin that has a good usecase, has a better chance of survival and of being used than just a pump and dump shit altcoin.

Bitcoin stands for its own no matter what. But the fact is that Altcoins can't stand for themselves without Bitcoin. So anyway, Bitcoin will leave for a long time as well the other cryptocurrencies.
Bitcoin is currently only a value unit. Of course it can't survive alone. Bitcoin's blockchain is very primitive so it cannot be used as a payment system. There are many projects that will benefit our daily lives. All of this will survive.

The major barrier for mass adoption and use for cryptos in daily life is the government block.
Not to mention that Bitcoin or really any other altcoin cannot match the TPS of traditional banking systems and online wallets.
There is a long way ahead of us before crypto is actually used in day to day life.
Still, I believe alt-coins put more functionality on the table then BTC ever will but BTC is the first proof of work for a decentralized currency.
Your post is still pointing to bitcoin and i am sure that deep down you know that bitcoin is the safest option in today's market but my advice is to diversify your portfolio for better result, for me i go all on 70% bitcoin and just 30% on altcoins because too many altcoins are shitcoins and only very few of them are good, in time we will see what happens

You have to decide when you are in dire situation. It has been proven that having bitcoin is more of those solid altcoins. I hold altcoins but I have higher investment with bitcoin. Agreed, I believe that Bitcoin is the founding father coin. I think projects like Ethereum and consensus algorithms like Delegated Proof of Stake are whats needed, leading us into the right direction. To think we started with just Proof of Work. Many people don't have faith within the altcoin markets because a lot of the coins are alternative clones with little to no new innovation added. Many are indeed shitcoins, but there are some real sleeper projects out there that are game changing. It's the emergence of competition that drives innovation, every coin/token plays its role as a tiny cog apart of a larger mechanism.
