Only people with zero ideas about bitcoin would consider it fake money. Even though bitcoin is digital, it's still real money with real value, nonetheless. You can show your nephew how you can easily convert your bitcoin to dollars and cash it out in front of him at an ATM. Personally, I don't really have the time to educate others about bitcoin, tried that before with my closest relatives, but none of them took the risk of investing. Having said, bitcoin is yet to be fully accepted. There's still a huge percentage of the population who knows squat about cryptocurrency.

Exactly, only few people said it that bitcoin is fake money who have little knowledge or may be they want to discourage to the people who are already using bitcoin. I am surprised to see the people who said against about bitcoin. I am thinking, they have no brain and eyes to see the bitcoin price and popularity.

bitcoins are not fake money but a valid payment alternative to fiat, we should not spend so much to buy features and upgrades for video games in no way with fiat or crypto...
people who don't like bitcoin will say it as fake money, and so on. even though it is valuable because it can be used with many things. well, for me it's not fake money, and of course the price won't be high if it's useless.
for me bitcoin is indeed not real money, bitcoin is digital money and of course many functions of money, especially digital money. very naive if there are people who say bitcoin is fake money.

In game items are indeed less valuable than crypto currency,

Depends on the person if he or she is a gamer then he will treat his in game account more valueable than anything else . ive read a news before where a gamer spend nearly millions of cash for just a virtual item  .

What could be done to boost bitcoin is to create an online game that accepts only btc as payment method.

It would be great if a game will also support other cryptos because some people prefer lighter alternatives than bitcoin .  there are a couple of blockchain based games thesedays but the gameplay are not really impressive  . what we need is to integrate crypto payments into a popular game .

Interesting discussion. Lots of different perspectives from other people about bitcoin. That's all because they don't really understand what bitcoin is and how it works, they only speculate on what they find without understanding it more deeply.
I understand that most people still doubt Bitcoin, some even say that it is fake money or cannot be used for payment. Doubt is very reasonable because as a digital currency that is still unfamiliar to some people, it is also not physical so to prove ownership of bitcoin cannot.
Therefore there must be education about bitcoin as a digital currency where the function is the same as a means of payment, for trade or investment. Even the use of bitcoin has more than 130 countries in the world.
It will take a lot efforts to convince doubting thomases about bitcoin, even as a means of payment many does not believe such a digital currency exist due to its unfamiliarity to some people.
Some opinionated that bitcoin is a ponzi scheme thus stayed away from any btc related issues its going to be difficult to change the perspective of such people just as the OP rigorous efforts in convincing his nephew to change his views about bitcoin.

In game items are indeed less valuable than crypto currency, but that is part of an hobby activity, and if the player really enjoys the game he will give much more importance to the game items than to crypto currency, even knowing it's more valuable.
What could be done to boost bitcoin is to create an online game that accepts only btc as payment method. If there were a game like that and if it were really popular I'm sure bitcoin would have its price increased. Think about a World of Warcraft, League of Legends, DOTA2 accepting only btc, a great propaganda for bitcoin.
There's no such thing called to be fake here if people appreciated what bitcoin had for so long. With that ways you've mentioned like nice propagandas, well definitely it could really provide a good reputation to bitcoin as well as increasing adoption. As soon as the people who kept using this type of currency, the pillars of bitcoin foundation will remain stronger and to those who think about fake money; probably that's a scammer's idea.

Indeed, Bitcoin is a payment method which has the value of money, so, for anyone thinking that, Bitcoin is fake money, s/he should rather jump off the cliff to watch how the said digital currency is be use. Bitcoin has attracted many notable investors and taking the lead in the world of digital assets, it's never a fake money.

True story! My friends, cousin my family apparently were not interested in cryptocurrencies, but they always asking to me "where the hack in the worlds you got all those money?" and they thinking I'm internet gambler.
I'm so sad with those people without knowledge did careless judgment. I'm already told them what bitcoin is,cryptocurrencies etc, it seem useless
Well, people without knowledge and not ready to try new things are hard to correct because they usually blind about the possibility of something that or will happen within them but in this kind of situations such people usually need genuine proof before they can believe you. What you can do is show him some of your crypto - Fiat transaction.

your experience was a relative, lucky you, i visualise tryintg to talk persons into cryptocurrency as trying to sell insurance policies in some third world African countries, if you have had such experience you will agree with me that it is rigid and complex to convience an African man to key into insurance policies, in the same vain, it is very difficult to explain crypto currency to third world unenlightened citizens, though we may be in the same system but we are vast to know more than we already know and thats how we came across crypto currency and till date I have not regretted my decision, bitcoin and the entire crypto space needs more awareness creation to gain mass adoption, that's the way forward.

Should we confront more people with the argument that most of the digital items that are bought online, might have less value than Crypto currencies.  Wink
Why mind confronting them? It might only cause you trouble especially when the person you are talking into is ill tempered or prideful Grin. If I were you, I'll explain my side when someone ask me or when the situation calls it because that's a safer way to introduce it. Actually, I experienced bad things in the past when I was active promoting btc to my friends (getting ignored and doubted, I already learn from it and of course I also don't want others to feel the same way that's why I'm saying this.

For me, it's a no. I've had a lot of discussion and arguments with people before regarding cryptocurrency since here in our country they think it's a scam. If people are not interested they are not open to new ideas or innovation. Let them be enlightened when it's too late.

At least, it's good to know you were able to educate your nephew about crypto at a young-age. It would be great if games will be accepting bitcoin as an alternative payment aside from paypal, credit/debit cards so it will be more convenient for players to pay.

I think the misconception of btc or cryptocurrency to been fake is largely related to the experience most people have had with ponzi and hype scheme, many people who have had contact with ponzi scheme and fall a victim believe crypto is nothing but a scam,
some people only believe in anything they can see and touch physically, it is very hard convincing such people to have a different believe, the majority of crypto enthusiast are youth, when the more aged people start understating crypto and acknowledging it then the adoption will spread among the young and the old.

most people can only blame bitcoin because they don't know about bitcoin and crypto currencies. they refer to bitcoin as counterfeit money and so on, but they themselves buy diamonds for game play on cellphones and they spend a lot of money buying these useless diamonds, in my opinion they have been fooled by games on mobile.
everyone who underestimates bitcoin will be surprised if they learn about crypto currencies, they will definitely regret not buying bitcoin and trading crypto currencies from 2016.

IDK, I agree that use money to buy "real" crypto currency such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple,... is a good way of investment in stead of buying "fake" crypto in the online game. But there still have some value when you decide to spend real money for fun, I mean deposit to the game and make you stronger in that virtual world, so the feeling that the game brings you is your interest. On another hand, some digital items in the game still have its value which can increase and be pumped in the game's market.
