Of course its exploding and there is nothing to be surprised about, nothing better than to place any bets(directbet.eu) completely anonymously and having funds sent to your wallet address right when the match ends (in case of sportsbook) . That's because bitcoin is still kinda new on the scene, and not yet known and spread enough for particular regulations to be designed for it,
but that's slowly changing. If you noticed, some of the casinos and dice sites had to reject gamblers from certain countries from gambling.

Yes, that is true. Bitcoins are becoming more popular in gambling world because of there anonymous transactions. Who ever want to gamble, every one don't want to disclose there identity so most of the people was looking for some think anonymous way to gamble and they found bitcoins. That does not surprise me at all. Bitcoin and the gambling world will keep growing together. I even think that bitcoin has so much value because of the gambling industry. People love this anonymous option, and they wager a lot of money, this creates big gambling opportunities that keeps bitcoin very popular.

I know gambling is not the only option to use bitcoins, but I think are probably one of the biggest uses in the bitcoin world.
